About this project
Protect the value and appearance of your car
The Bumper Bot was invented to protect your car when it's unattended. If you live in a big city, you've seen what car owners do to protect their bumpers from other drivers. Some city dwellers use everything from thick rubber stickers to hanging mud-flaps from their trunks to keep their car safe from the terrors of street parking. These methods are often times not pleasing to the eye, so some drivers opt-out on having any protection on their car at all. These daredevils often pay the price:
To have both, bumper protection and a sleek looking car, cue The Bumper Bot. Our device uses 2 LED light bars at each end of the vehicle, ultrasonic sensors, a tiny siren in a protective, weather resistant metal housing. It is a discreet protection system that can only be seen when it is needed.
The Bumper Bot consists of three ultrasonic proximity sensors, a piezo-electronic siren and a very simple circuit protected by metal housing. We refer to this system as “The Bumper Bar”. The Bumper Bar is connected to two super-bright, segmented LED light bars that display a reading of the Bumper Bar sensors, in other words how close an object is to your car.
Heavy Duty Metal Housing
The Bumper Bot’s heavy duty metal housing contains three ultrasonic proximity sensors, 105 db. piezo siren and circuitry in a single piece of hardware. It mounts to your license plate bracket or under your bumpers. The Bumper Bot’s sensors are placed at multiple angles to maximize protection and the sensitivity is adjustable, so you decide how close is too close.
Super-bright LED signalling lights
The LEDs display a bright reading that drivers can’t miss! It’s bright, it’s very attractive and it’s easy to read and understand. The purpose becomes clear right away! As a driver approaches your car, the LEDs fill in from the outside toward the middle, making it abundantly clear that they are displaying the driver’s distance to your car. As we filmed the demo video, we can’t tell you how many people stopped to look and actually waited through GREEN lights just to see the device work as we filmed. These lights also use very little power even after extended use.
How does it protect my car?
When another driver approaches your car the Bumper Bot detects them and catches their attention with a bright wipe sequence, à la Knight Rider. As the driver gets closer to your vehicle, the super-bright LED light bars fill from the outside inward to warn the other drivers that they are approaching your car. If a vehicle is pushing your comfort zone, the LED lights begin to flash and the tiny electronic siren wails to alert the other driver. If the driver stays too close, the Bumper Bot remains live for about a minute and then automatically turns off until motion is detected again. Along with protecting your car, The Bumper Bot is:
- Weather resistant.
- A low-draw electronic device that won't drain your battery.
- Quiet enough to not wake the neighbors.
- Not going to interfere with your car's sleek look.
- Heavy duty and can take a hit.
- Won't damage your paint like a rubber mat.
- So cool that all your friends are going to want one!
Installing a Bumper Bot is easier than installing nearly any other aftermarket equipment to your vehicle. If you know your way around your car, you can install it yourself. However, if you would like to leave installation to a professional, you should expect to pay for about an hour’s worth of labor at any auto electronics or customization shop. Upon ordering your Bumper Bot, all of the hardware and instructions will be available in the package along with digital demonstrations on YouTube to help you easily install your device.
The Bumper Bar can be easily mounted to a license plate bracket. It also has the option of being mounted under your bumper. In many cases, a Bumper Bar will fit behind your grill.
What Happens When We Hit Our Goal?
Meet the Team
The Bumper Bot was conceived by Serge Kannon long before Kickstarter existed in 2003. Serge spent years seeking an investor to help bring this invention to life. In 2013, a family member Avraham Zaken added several design elements to the invention and they decided to build one and run a Kickstarter campaign. After acquiring the parts, electronics engineer Guy Marsden helped to create the program for the Bumper Bot circuit board. Once all of the technical aspects of the device were created, the first Bumper Bot became a reality!
Risks and challenges
Every new concept and product inevitably encounters obstacles and challenges that may delay production. We have established a clear plan and well defined short term goals to ensure our product reaches you as promised or better. The Bumper Bot is actually more simple than many car gadgets out there and we don't foresee significant or time consuming challenges towards fulfilling our contributors perks as planned.
To minimize any unforeseen and time consuming challenges, we have partnered with One Step Sourcing in Melville, New York. With over 25 years experience in helping to develop new products and bringing them to markets all over the world, we are certain we've picked the right team to work with us to deliver the best possible product in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
