About this project
As seen on :
Let's talk about BugBites
BugBites was created from the desire of three young entrepreneurs from Montreal with a love for animals and a strong desire to change our outdated food system. At BugBites, we keep your best interests - the furry friends you love, and our future - close to heart.
We only use simple and natural ingredients produced by people that care, and proudly prepare our treats in a family-owned kitchen located in Quebec.
What People are saying
• 35% population Growth by 2050
• Crop production will need to double as people eat more meat
• Storing and spreading manure can involve the emission of large quantities of ammonia which has an acidifying effect on ecosystems
• Live Stock Production accounts for already 70 percent of agricultural use
1) It's Nutritious.
2) Less Polluting!
3) More Efficient!
4) It's better for your dog & for the environment!
Compared to dog treats made of chicken (or beef!).
Our Clients simply love our products...

VP Sales and Cofounder #DogLover #PeoplePerson #Style
“We like to think that we are the next Google of Food. We look forwards to changing the world one bite at a time! The goal is to reduce the time, space, feed and gas emission needed for pet food production.”
CEO & Cofounder #Food #Disruption #Empowerment
“Being entrepreneurs enables us to tackle issues that are important to us that we feel are not being addressed by existing companies, in our case, the lack of diversity in our food system, and the challenge with global food supply.”
VP Innovation and Cofounder #Ideas #Creativity #BreakingBarriers
“One of the best ways to innovate is to confront conventions. The opportunities are accessible to everyone – the real challenge is to not be stopped by what is done, but to focus on what needs to be done, regardless of norms."
Risks and challenges
With any food product, it is always important to ensure quality. Here’s what we’ve done to mitigate problems and what ongoing measures we’ll be taking:
Laboratory testing: our treats have been tested to ensure top quality (microbiological, nutritional content, etc.), freshness and shelf-life.
Quality assurance: our Canada-based supplier is one of the only human-grade certified provider of cricket flour in North America. Our local white label manufacturer is equipped with the certified technology to verify product conformity on a regular basis and is an experienced leader in oven-baked pet food.
Field tests: we tested our treats with hundreds of dogs with staggering results and no observed negative side effects (in fact, crickets are hypoallergenic!).
High demand: our cricket flour supplier is more than able to provide us with enough material, presently producing considerable volumes of our main ingredient.
Shipping: we have verified and tested shipping procedures in Canada to ensure efficient package delivery.
Even with every precaution, it is still possible to face some of the following scenarios:
Supply: we have contacted different suppliers and have established relations in case suppliers need to be changed for any reasons. This could cause some delays, but we’re confident they won’t dramatically affect shipping dates.
Delivery date: We have planned to receive our custom industrial mold for production in the upcoming weeks. Some delays might arise in this process which we do not completely control. In case of major delays, we have back-up generic molds at our disposal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
