ExoDrivePLUS - microSD expansion, wireless Qi charging & 2600mah extended battery all in one case.
We listened to what you wanted, and since we hit our goal so early, we added one more reward. The ExoDrive Plus, a case that brings all the same functionality of an ExoDrive case, along with wireless charging and an extra battery. The ExoDrive Plus uses batteries made for the Samsung Galaxy S4, so if you want to you can buy a couple and have spare batteries to swap out during the day. ExoDrive Plus cases come with one 2600mah battery.
What is ExoDrive?
Exo-Drive cases bring expandable micro-SD card storage to select devices. All in a sleek and protective case. (SD, SDHC & SDXC supported)
Many of you noticed the Nexus 5 case was only a prototype, and requested an estimated render of what our final case designs will look like. We uploaded one to our website here, which you can check out now!

We have Exo-Drive iPhone prototypes in the works. If we get enough support to reach our stretch goal of $100K, we will make Exo-Drive cases for iPhones available as a reward! Otherwise, iPhone compatible cases will be available shortly after our project is complete.
Phones that already have expandable storage capabilities, get the ability to use an additional microSD card, with the benefit of it being able to be removed and installed without restarting the device.
Initially, Exo-Drive cases are available in Black, Grey, White, and as a Kickstarter exclusive reward, milled aluminum!
The prototype in the photos is made for a Nexus 5. Although the circuit board works on all the listed phones. We don't have the resources to prototype the casing for each phone at the moment. We still need get 3D scans and finalize designs for them, which we will do using funding from the Kickstarter campaign.
The cases will conform to the contours of the phone itself, adding a protective layer and the ExoDrive components as seen in the Nexus 5 case.
How do you use it?

When an Exo-Drive case is plugged into a computer, the computer has access to both the device's usual internal memory, as well as the micro-SD card installed in the Exo-Drive case. When the case is plugged into a power source or computer, the phone is charged.
How does it work?
We developed an extremely efficient SD to USB adapter, which works through USB On The Go to give ExoDrive cases their SD compatibility.
Alongside this we created a switching-hub system that allows computers connected to the case to be able to access both the installed micro-SD card and the phone's storage. This is only powered on when connected to a computer, to further increase power efficiency.
To save power, users can disable Exo-Drive cases when not in use.
What about the case side of things?
The prototypes shown have 3D printed case housings, and are in no way an indication of the finish of production models. Production models will have the plastic components injection molded, without the rough edges or joints shown on prototypes.
When designing our cases, we thought about how we hold a smartphone. From this we housed the circuit board in the bottom of the cases, with minimally increased footprint on the sides and back so that the phone still feels and looks slim and sexy. Because of this it fits in your pocket just fine being only slightly longer.
ExoDrive cases are offered in bumper style or full coverage style cases.
The protective case aspect of ExoDrive cases hasn't been forgotten either. The cases will be made with a hard outer shell and a soft rubber lining around the phone, USB connection and PCB, absorbing shocks while protecting your phone. This also prevents the micro-USB connectors being destroyed if the phone gets dropped.

Development of ExoDrive
Our team has been working for just over two years to bring this idea to a product and we've finally reached a point where we can show off our project.
Manufacture of ExoDrive
Exo-Drive cases will be manufactured in Brisbane, Australia. We've got in contact with local plastics, electronics, packaging and other companies we need to produce our product right here in Brisbane. Everything is lined up for finalization and ultimately production. All we need is your support to reach the final stages!
Our KickStarter rewards will be sent internationally through Australia Post, for fast and secure transportation to our backers.
Rewards include international postage fees to most countries.
Risks and challenges
Like any electronic product, going from a working prototype to mass production can be a lengthy journey with unexpected delays.
We've designed our product with manufacturing in mind, to avoid setbacks regarding scheduling, cost and resources.
We've spent a lot of time and energy to ensure we've done absolutely everything we can before launch to get our product perfect before launching this Kickstarter project, so that you, our supporters, can receive the product you invest in as soon as possible.
