"Never underestimate the difference you can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out and help" Pablo
A lot is said about the internet and how the Human Race is becoming less personable, especially in the developed world.
The knock on effect, is that it produces detachment, and with that the inability to open up conversations with strangers, leading to less people willing to help others in need.
We are less likely to offer help to others for fear of being rejected and looked upon as strange and with suspicion.
One of our Co-Founders, experienced this some 10 years ago.
Whilst driving home after working in a busy city, late at night. He was behind a car that clipped a center island with its rear wheel, causing the tire to explode.
The car pulled over, he stopped just in front of it, noticing the driver was a young woman.
He got out of his vehicle and approached the young lady, who had also got out of her car to view the damage to her wheel.
He approached with some trepidation expecting the refusal of help, and as expected, the young lady wanted to turn down his assistance. She looked upon him with a sense of suspicion, and said she would call her Father for help.
However, being a Dad himself and the fact that it was late, he offered her the use of his Cell phone, which did seem to put her more at ease.
As she was speaking to her Father he got to work on changing the wheel for her.
In around 15 minutes it was done, just as her Father arrived, who was extremely grateful.
He felt good about helping this young woman in her time of need. Which gave him a great sense of satisfaction as he left to continue home.
As it happens, he had left his Flashlight behind, but he had mentioned that he was working at the Post Office after hours that week, fixing Data Lines and Electrics.
When he returned to the City Post Office the next evening, he was met with many compliments from the staff there.
The young woman and her Father had made the effort, that day, to go to his place of work and hand in his Flashlight. Coupled with a high amount of praise for the help he had given the previous night.
The feel good emotions came flooding back.
"Never look on help with suspicion, look on it as helping somebody's humanity" RCF
That was some years ago and we believe at BuddyGuard that the situation is not getting any better. With interaction and social contact being more and more confined to the Virtual World.
The Human Race in the Developed World is losing individualism, on mass. We are losing our ability to interact on a personal level and in times of stress, hardship and danger we are hard pressed to ask for, and accept help, without a sense of dubiety.
However, at BuddyGuard we believe that with the right application within today’s technology, we can create a movement that makes asking for help and the willingness to offer help, easier than ever.
We want people to remember that feeling they get when they help others and EXPERIENCE it more!
A study at Yale University School Of Medicine has found that helping others actually helps with ones psychological and physical well being.
They found that participating in acts of kindness and helpfulness increased levels of positive emotions.
The Human race is hard wired for face to face contact, that includes touch, eye contact and smiles. Such interactions release a hormone called Oxytocin, which helps us bond together and care for others.
Helping helps us meet others, make new friends and bond over common beliefs and interests.
Those that help are more likely to be able to handle everyday stresses easier. Positive emotions elevate our psychological and physical conditions and help us live longer healthier lives.
"When you give help cheerfully and accept help gratefully, everybody is blessed" Maya Angelou
So lets look at the possible fictional scenarios where we believe BuddyGuard is going to revolutionize how we can help others.
Mary has a busy day ahead, not least the fact that she has to take her 4 children all under age 8 to the Mall that day.
She knows its going to be busy, as its only 5 days away from Christmas, but its her last chance to finish off all her essential Holiday shopping.
As expected, the Mall is like a zoo and she has decided to get in and out as quickly as possible.
An hour into the shopping trip all is going well, and she has managed to get everything on her list except for one item, that happens to be in the busiest store in the Mall.
Mary has kept the children in check for the most part, but she is starting to realize that they are is getting irritable and hungry, made worse because the children all wanted to stay at the last store to continue playing in the public play area.
She manages to get to the section she needs, only for her baby in the stroller to projectile vomit everywhere.
Distracted and flustered she temporarily loses sight of one of her children, as she tries to clear up the mess.
Mary’s attention wains for no more than a couple of minutes, enough time for her little 4yr old to disappear from her sight.
She calls out to him in a panicked voice only a parent would understand. Receiving no response and so getting further worried, she looks to get help.
Before now most parents would have to enlist the help of a shop assistant or Manger, if one could be found! Who in turn, would have to call the mall security, all taking time and losing precious minutes, before an announcement could be made over the public address system.
This makes the situation even more stressful for the parent and child alike.
But now there's BuddyGuard.
Mary is able to contain herself quickly after her child has gone missing, and activates her app with an amber alert.
She sees that some 20 BuddyGuard members are in the mall vicinity. Almost at once she has activated twenty pairs of eyes focused on her dilemma.
Each BuddyGuard member has been alerted by a unique amber alert tone.
A photo and description of the child is sent out immediately. Mary had previously downloaded this to her personal membership profile, which is only visible to her for when she chooses to use them in situations like this.
Within minutes the child has been found happily playing in the play area, that the mother and child had just left, by a BuddyGuard member and their partner (also a member).
They stay with the child until the child's mother arrives and the family are happily reunited. Thanks to BuddyGuard.
Precious minutes saved, this situation could have turned out a lot differently if the child had not been found so quickly.
Maddison had been texting her friends all week excited about meeting up on New Years Eve.
The plans included her taking a train to the closest station to the City center, and walking around ½ a mile to meet her friends.
They are all looking forward to a great night of outside entertainment, that the City has laid on for the New Years Eve revelers.
Tens of thousands are expected to attend, and Maddison is unconcerned about walking the ½ mile through the crowds to meet up with her friends.
However, the situation changes very quickly when she gets off the train and makes her way through the streets.
She is suddenly aware of many eyes gazing in her direction and notices a group of young men heading towards her.
At this point she has to make a decision. Does she run the gauntlet, hoping that its just her paranoia?
Or does she give in to fear, and double back to the train station, even though she has been planning this evening for weeks?
This story may seem familiar, as there were many instances similar to this, documented in the World's press (especially in Europe).
We all read what happened to those brave women who chose not to be a victim of fear, and tried to make their way through the hostile crowds.
Harrowing stories of sexual assault and rape by gangs of men sickened many of us.
It may have been a small percentage of the crowd that were intent on praying on the vulnerable, but a small percentage bound together can become a formidable force, causing unbelievable distress and fear on what should have been a fun evening for all.
Everybody, has a right to expect to be safe on a crowd filled night, and enjoy the festivities without fear, suspicion or incident .
But what if there had been another option available to Maddison that night?
BUDDYGUARD an App for our age. A tool that will bring assistance wherever you are. A Movement of Helping. Good people willing to come to your aid when needed.
During the week Maddison is busy making plans and decides to log onto the BuddyGuard website, where someone has opened a blog about the event she and her friends are attending that weekend.
Maddison thinks to herself, "its good to know that like minded people will be attending the same event we are going to" and is glad she and her friends downloaded the BuddyGuard APP weeks ago.
She feels a sense of safety and it puts her mind at ease. Knowing that help is just a push of a button away, and that if needed someone from the BuddyGuard Movement would escort them safely to their destination.
It was meant for times like this, when she and her friends may feel vulnerable.
BuddyGuard "sign on" security requirements, ensures that whoever is coming to help, is of sound character and has been vetted thoroughly via BuddyGuards "Triangle Of Safety" security system.
Profile--Facial recognition--Fingerprint identification .This gives BuddyGuard membership the safety and security necessary in today's uncertain world.
So imagine this; your BuddyGuard Members have arrived to escort you to your destination.
Interesting conversations are had between yourself and your escort/s and you promise to keep in touch after the nights celebrations, maybe you even become friends (who knows).
This pleasant experience adds to a great night out. Your night goes smoothly and without incident and you give feedback on the member or members who assisted (escorted) you that night.
You are impressed with how the member kept in touch with you via visual contact, easing your concerns.
On the flip side, the member that actually helped has a positive review and feels a sense of pride that they were able to help someone out, a sense of belonging to a movement that is bringing people together.
Our goal at BuddyGuard inc, is to decrease the number of incidents as much as possible.
At BuddyGuard inc, we believe if the development of the App saves one person from an incident, then it would have been worth its creation.
"one of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone" Shannon L Alder
These are just a couple, of the thousands of possible situations where the BuddyGuard app could be used. The BuddyGuard app is adaptable for any age demographic.
From young children to and from school, parks, the shops. Through to teenagers out late, the young and single, parents, elderly living alone and away from relatives. The list goes on and on.

We are aiming to create a Community of Helping. We are aiming to create a new active Global Community,
One where the stigma of asking for help and offering help no longer exists.
We want you to remember those times you helped somebody in need, and to remember the remarkable feeling you got from that experience, also the times you may have needed help, and the feeling of helplessness that was felt at the time.
You may have had a tire blowout on your car. You might have been totally lost somewhere, where there may have been hundreds of people around you, and your only wish at the time, is that there had been a familiar face for you to ask for help.
We have all been there, sometime in our lives, big or small, young or old.
The thing is today it seems as though help is further away than ever. But it doesn't have to be that way.
"Those that are happiest are those that do the most for others" Booker T Washington
There are many community sites today, and its great that they afford us the facility to connect with friends and family on almost a minute by minute, hour by hour basis.
It has also enabled us to reconnect with people we have lost contact with in the past, and also the ability to create new relationships.
Technology has given us great power, but it does not and can not tell us, how to use that power.
It has given us the ability to communicate quickly and across vast distances, so lets harness the capacity of technology and join it with the amazing power we have within us.
Lets make this fascinating movement move ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
We at BuddyGuard want to effect great change. We want to mobilize our members to help those within our movement and expand our community of helping, globally.
Let our movement show true compassion by not only feeling others' pain but by being moved to relieve it.
Help create a community that moves with us as we leave the computer screen and venture away from the safety of our homes. A community that offers comfort, belonging and security wherever you are.
"Its hard to make things right for everyone, but if everyone helped one person, lots of people would be helped" Linwood Barclay
So how is this going to work? Well for a start it's FREE!
IT IS TOTALLY FREE! There will never be any monetary add-ons.
We believe at BuddyGuard you should not have to pay to feel safe .So when we update, improve, add on any enhancements, they will be ABSOLUTELY FREE. So doesn't it seem a practical No Brainer? Just to have the app downloaded sitting there in the corner of your device.
You never have to think about the Fire Service, Police Force, Paramedics, you just know they are there when you need them.
The difference is, you can actively help others in their time of need as well as ask for assistance when you need it.
So you have now downloaded it!
Its now there when you need it, but we also want you to get involved in
At BuddyGuard we sat down and milled around various ideas.
We want you to have the best possible experience with this app and want to bring out the best in everyone who choose to be a part of the movement.
But we understand that sometimes a little encouragement is needed. We want being part of this unique community of helping to be an amazing experience!
We want to show that your involvement within the community is appreciated far beyond words and we believe this is revolutionary within the app world. We want to give back!
So we are going to offer awards and prizes, these could take the form of electronic gifts, holidays or monetary . To those that really put themselves out in the name of BuddyGuard and our
We intend to set up an awards system, very soon after the app is launched, and hold monthly reviews to decide on the winners. As we grow we would love to hold annual community presentations.
We want to encourage feedback and stories of those that went the extra mile to help, those that made the experience of using BuddyGuard not just a good one, but an extraordinary one .
Despite the trials and tribulations that the individuals are experiencing at the time of calling.
We at BuddyGuard know we are not going to get there on our own. To make this a global success, which we believe it can be, is going to require the assistance of our community.
We intend to acknowledge the help we receive within our movement whether it be obvious or subtle.
Acknowledging someones help is a big part of understanding the importance of saying THANK YOU!
"The day is yours, when you help others in need" RCF
We will be offering awards to those that help many, and those that help on a regular basis.
We want to recognize those selfless individuals who are prepared to give up their time for the good of this movement.
We Intend to hold these members up as standard bearers, pillars of our unique and help encourage more to get involved in this revolutionary idea.
Once launched, we would like the Community of Kickstarter to help us get our vision out globally.
We at BuddyGuard want to make this the most revolutionary help app available,
Our success will be gauged in the amount of people that It helps, and to able assist more, we need to encourage more.
So become part of this amazing Global Movement.
This your opportunity to get in on the ground floor. How will it feel to say "I was there at the beginning", "I was there at the start and look at it now". So are you ready to join us on this incredible journey?
"This is the only perfection there is, the perfection of helping others. This is the only thing we can do that has any lasting meaning. This is why we are here. To make others safe." Andrea Agassi.
Littered throughout this 'story article' we have mentioned the world Global several times.
So lets make a case for why we believe being global will make this an extraordinary community, we would like to highlight another one of its many future benefits.
Within this new unique new social media tool we believe at BuddyGuard there are ways this tool can be applied to your everyday life.
So lets say you have decided to take a holiday abroad to a location you have never visited before. Hours can be spent both at home and at the location studying all your destination has to offer.
However you can never be truly confident, despite the time you have spent, that you have managed to nail down the best for your vacation.
Nothing can replace local knowledge, you know that! So as the BuddyGuard community base expands, it will be a comfort to know that you are able to contact local community members more than willing to help make the most of your visit.
We are pretty certain that the members of BuddyGuard would probably offer to meet you for, lets say a coffee, to discuss their local knowledge.
Giving an unbiased opinion of the pros and cons of local attractions.
A better, more enjoyable use of your holiday time than thumbing through a plethora of holiday literature.
There's a good chance that they would offer other ideas to your itinerary, making your overall holiday a happy and fantastic experience.
In the process you have possibly made a new friendship for life, expanding your own global network of friends.
"Challenges are what make life interesting, and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. There will always be new challenges to keep us motivated" RCJ
Almost daily, we at BudddyGuard are coming up with new ideas on ways to help people in a multitude of situations.
Some of the concepts we intend to add later, as the app becomes more prominent and globally known are, but not limited to;
* Anti-Bullying for children. Being able to offer a safe haven for those going through this trauma.
*Carefully vetted individuals who can offer help and advise.
*Those going through mental health issues i.e Suicidal thoughts. We would like to be able to offer some sort of quick help to those contemplating severe actions associated with mental health. To help offer a network of people that are willing to talk things out in times of crisis.
"The current population of Earth is over 7.4 billion people. You are NOT alone" CMM
*Missing Persons. Being able to globally alert when persons are missing, getting the word out quickly. By utilizing this facility to avert a crisis escalating further. Linking also to the idea above it, as sometimes the two are closely linked at times.
*Missing pets. Reuniting pets with owners, getting the word out quickly when these situations occur, and many many more.
These are just a few of the ideas that we at BuddyGuard are coming up with daily.
By helping us fund our project, we will be able to open up this new remarkable app to the world, and in turn create a new, powerful movement of helping.
As we extend our Global Footprint. We hope also to encourage charity organizations to get involved globally.
We want to help with your volunteer needs. By telling us about your project and requirements for volunteer personnel.
We can target your operational area and notify active BuddyGuard members with what you require and dates for involvement.
As I sit here writing this introduction to our dream of making BuddyGuard a global movement of helping, in the back ground the television is on and a program is airing about the atrocities that have taken place in Belgium.
I cant help but wonder if there had been a large community of BuddyGuard memebers around, if maybe, it could have helped in saving some of those that died or were injured on that fateful day.
Its a serious situation that any of us can find ourselves in.
I don't have to elaborate to much about the security risks facing a lot of our Major Cities throughout the World. However in times of disaster and crisis you cannot help notice how many choose to activate their cell phones and record what was happening at the time.
If you look at what transpired in Brussels, Belgium, maybe if some of those who used their cell phones had been BuddyGuard members, they could have been moved to issue a general alert within the BuddyGuard network.
As we are aware, terrorist attacks are happening randomly at different times, more frequently across the world. To achieve, it appears, maximum effect, damage and devestation.
If a general alert had been available soon after the first incident, it may have been possible to inform people early enough to tell them to avoid high risk areas, and move to areas of less risk, until the situation had been put under control.
How many of those exposed to the further incidents that day, 'DID NOT KNOW' what was happening nearby.
It takes time for the media and emergency services to get out public notices, but with BuddyGuard we are working on an alert status within our system that can notify members at an instant.
This is something that we believe will be of great benefit in these uncertain times.
"You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you" John Bunyan.
Finally before we close there is one more idea we would like to share. There are many times people are struck down unexpectedly with a medical emergency i.e Heart attack, seizure, stroke etc.
We know that when those instances happen, (lets say in a busy high street) that others can be only metres away and totally oblivious to what is happening close by.
When crucial minutes could mean the difference between life and death, people trained in medical emergencies could be literally round the corner unaware what has transpired nearby.
We at BuddyGuard intend to include the 'option facility' for those willing to disclose their medical background/qualifications. They could be Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics, First Aider's etc.
The ability to alert those who have been trained in these situations could save precious time and therefore lives,
We are told continually in the world's press how emergency services around the world are stretched to breaking point in many cities. So if by adding this to app helps save the life of one individual then the hard work will be worth it.
We Intend to encourage those who have this type of specialist training to offer their services in times of distress and help make this movement of helping truly exceptional and a movement all would be proud to be a part of.
So there you have it; BuddyGuard, a movement of helping.
Some of the possible applications that we have mentioned here, really only scratch the surface of what BuddyGuard can bring to the Global Community.
Lets face it Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc have given us the facility to keep in touch with friends and family on a global scale, but how many can remember what they posted last month, last week, maybe even yesterday?
We believe there is a place for a movement of helping, a Global Network giving your help when needed, these will be generous actions that you will probably remember for a life time.
Even if you choose not to be part of our pledge team for whatever reason, please keep BuddyGuard in mind. Your membership will always be of value whenever you decide to join.
For those of you that have chosen to pledge and become part of this, EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY. WELCOME AND THANK YOU! YOUR HELP IS MORE THAN APPRECIATED.
Risks and challenges
BuddyGuard was founded and is situated in Waterloo Canada. Waterloo region is a renowned tech mecca , home to nearly 1000 companies and home to one of the worlds leading educational tech institutions.
So where better us to be situated as we endeavor to create this new global movement of helping.
Like any new business/app ideas, there will be many obstacles to overcome.
At BuddyGuard the diversity of age and life experiences amongst our co-founders has given us the advantage of knowing the importance of what this app could do to impact peoples lives in times of crisis.
Our experiences Range from growing up in a run down inner city area to living in a middle/upper class environment.
We can also draw from from the experience of one of our co-founders, who once served as a firefighter in one of the busiest fire services in the world.
All our co founders have lived in various locations throughout the world at various times in their lives.
Also a couple of our founders have experienced real tragedy within their own lives. Both professionally and personal.
So with this wealth of experience to draw from, we don't believe there are many better qualified to overcome any problems related to the creation of this revolutionary concept within the app and internet world.
Our first goal was to convince an app developer to believe and to invest in our idea.
We decided to ask, initially, for people to apply to help us develop the app. Not really putting much in the way of detail, but a generalization of our concept.
We Left it to our computer genius to put together something that would wet the appetite, and to our amazement we had over 100 applications overnight and they are still coming.
We are at present going through the plethora of applications, and interviewing to find the best fit for our vision and that they have the belief as we do, that this could be an amazing journey in creating a new powerful global community.
The problem at BuddyGuard, at present, is reigning in all our concepts.
Almost daily, we are coming up with new ideas on ways to help people in a multitude of situations. Some of the concepts we intend to add later, as the app becomes more prominent and globally known are, but not limited to, Anti-Bullying-For children-being able to offer a safe haven for those going through this trauma. Carefully vetted individuals who can offer help and advise.
Those going through mental health issues i.e Suicidal thoughts . We would like to be able to offer some sort of quick help to those contemplating severe actions associated with mental health.
Try to offer a network of people that are willing to talk things out in times of crisis.
Missing Persons-Being able to globally alert when persons are missing, getting the word out quickly. By utilizing this facility to avert a crisis escalating further. Linking also to the idea above as sometimes the two are closely linked at times.
Missing pets-Again getting the word out as fast as possible. And many many more.
These are just a few of the many ideas that we at BuddyGuard are coming up with daily. By helping us fund our project we will be able to open up this new remarkable app to the world, And in turn create a new, powerful, movement of helping.
