Buddha World is truly a project where East meets West. We are two aspiring
American filmmakers setting out by plane, by train, by tuk tuk, by foot, to
document life, love, art, and spirit at a Buddhist Peace Park in Northern
But Dhamma Park is anything but typical. Co-founded by British-born Artist
and Peace builder Venetia Walkey and Thai National Artist Inson Wongsam, who
are tirelessly working to sustain and develop this experimental 21st Century
Ecumenical, Eco-Spiritual theme park based on Buddhist teachings and
Though recognized by the Dalai Lama, UNICEF, UNESCO, and Time magazine,
Dhamma Park is largely unknown to many in the Western world. People who have
spent time there have described it as magical, inspiring, singular. One
traveler said that he experienced the visitations of many monks as well as a
famous Thai soap actress and her crew. It’s just that kind of place.
For travelers who encounter Dhamma Park it can be a voyage of discovery. Those
who want to travel further on their journey can explore the third dimension
via the Buddhist teachings Humour and the Arts. Our goal is to capture
of Dhamma Park and the story of its founding on film so as to inform the
world about this place of spirit, healing and art.
Venetia and Inson have graciously invited us to stay with them at Dhamma
Park, offering us full access to their facilities, including their sculpture
gardens and the gallery which is designed as a neutral space for people of
all religions, races, ages, genders, beliefs and seekers of truth.
With a minimal crew, a camera, and a sound recorder we are going to be
there, to document, to interview, and to film not only the spiritual and
peace-building work of Dhamma Park but also our own experience as we come
into contact with the environment and teachings of the Buddha.
Both filmmakers, having been raised in the Western world, are in for an
awakening –definitely rude but hopefully enlightening.
Plane tickets, room and board have been provided. We are asking for donations to help us upgrade our equipment, including a better lens to shoot the amazing landscape and gardens found at Dhamma Park. We also need help covering post-production costs, such as editing and distribution. Any extra monies will go toward DVD duplication and entry fees into film festivals.
THANK YOUWe appreciate all who donate or help to spread knowledge of our project. Even by reading this page you have contributed to one of our main goals: to simply learn about this wonderful place in Thailand. By donating you are aiding an experience of a transcendent nature and providing an outlet for this peace-building community.
