THE SHORT STORY: In a nutshell, we are Buckeye Knoll, an Oakland-based indie folk rock band and we’re deep in the throes of our second full-length album. We’ve launched this Kickstarter campaign to rally financial support for the completion and release of that record. There are fantastic and creative incentives for you on the right hand side of this page where you can pick up some really special treats for your generous donations. *NOTE* This campaign is all or nothing which means we will not get any of your donations if we don't reach or exceed our goal. Thank you for helping us reach it!
THE LONGER STORY: Hello, I’m Doug Streblow and I started Buckeye Knoll when I was 20 years old during a summer spent backpacking all over California. While I was out in the wilderness, I carried an acoustic guitar and songs began pouring out of me. I’ve rinsed, washed and repeated that process dozens of times now spending anywhere from a night to entire seasons in wilderness areas all over the world and every time I go out I get inspired and write more songs.
While that beginning is romantic, I’m happy to say that Buckeye Knoll is not just a lonely bearded vagabond with guitar, roaming mountain trails and humming love songs. I’m joined by my good friends and musicians Alex Nitta and Graham Rolak and together we are creating a great new album.
This new album finds us somewhere in between that outdoor inspiration and a more modern, layered rock-and-roll sound. We live in Oakland, but we took the backwoods approach and retreated to a cabin in the woods for two weeks to record our raw tracks. As you can see in the video above, it was a great way to unplug from everyday life and tap into a creative flow. We’re bringing the clarity of the mountains and mixing it in with the electric buzz of the urban experience.
Since our humble beginnings, Buckeye Knoll has come a long, long way. We have released two albums—a five song EP in 2007 and a full-length album titled People and Place in 2010. We’ve been heralded as “The real deal” and “Unforgettable” by the head music critic at the San Francisco Chronicle, and toured the Southwest twice. Most importantly, we have continued to bring positive, honest, relatable music into the world for all kinds of folks to enjoy. And that’s what it’s all about!
So, it’s 2011, and we’re on the verge of completing our second full-length album. We’ve pooled together our resources to fund three quarters of the album including our two week recording session, mixing with our engineer Cian Riordan at a fancy-pants studio in LA, and way more. We’ve already paid out of pocket for a whole lot of the album, but we need help with the last bit. Eric Valentine is set to master the record, which is crazy because he’s produced bands like Third Eye Blind, Nickel Creek, and The All-American Rejects. Then we want to get this album pressed so that you can hold it in your hands, the way it was meant to be. Finally we want to put some money behind promoting this album so that the most people possible can experience it.
This is our dream. It’s simple and a little crazy but it’s what we love and it’s what we live for. We thank you in advance for your continued support of our band and this Kickstarter Campaign as well as for spreading the word about Buckeye Knoll and our efforts. Give generously and have a wonderful Holiday Season. We can’t wait to share the record with you and the rest of the world!
Doug, Alex, and Graham
