We are so called "early adopters" in terms of Azure DevOps. We started using it in various projects back to the preview versions in 2013 when it was first called "Visual Studio Online". In the meanwhile, our team and the company have changed, but the need for a very good system to organize our projects, source code and releases has always been a top priority. If a team member needs help, a small code review needs to be done or you simply want to file a bug in an application, the current web application of Azure DevOps doesn't make it easy to do so. The very limited capabilities of the mobile interface make it nearly impossible to be productive on the go. The lack of notification possibilities beside e-mail makes it sometimes hard to keep yourself up to date.
With this in mind we decided to build a mobile optimized application for iOS (and the newest addition iPadOS) and Android to fill this gap. We want to create a fully featured application with the ability to receive push notifications and an optimized view to display code even on small devices. This was the start of the ThreeOps app development.
The project plan
We want to create a cross platform app which initially should run on iOS, iPadOS and Android. The application should have the same functionality as the web application, but optimized for mobile applications. We are using Xamarin.Forms as the foundation for our mobile application like we did for many projects before.
At the moment we are focused on a "read-only" version of the app. This part of the application is already done and just needs a little polishing and design optimization. We created a short navigation demo to show the real application as it is in early September:
When we are done with this part, we will work on the Create / Update / Delete functionality of the app. We already have done this for Pull Requests to showcase the ability to so and to work with the API.
The final application will be for free if it is being used as read-only version. If you want to use the Push Notifications or any write operation like accepting your colleagues Pull Request, you will need to get a Pro Subscription for 9.99 EUR a month.
Our company was founded in March 2019 by a team of three software engineers who worked together in another German software company for a few years. When the former company was closed, we decided to create a new software startup with our strong expertise in cloud and mobile software development. We have some large companies within our portfolio of customers which are all satisfied with our solutions. You can find out more about us on threebit.io
We are trying to offer something for anyone who wants to support our project. Even if you are not a developer or a user of Microsoft Azure DevOps you will find an option to support us. Especially our mascot ThreeKro will make everyone happy and might be your future best buddy. If you are a developer, you can use him for crocodile debugging - that's rubber duck debugging but cute.
Privacy is our number one goal in this project but also in general. Our application does not save any information about your source code or project details. The only data which is processed by our systems is the first code while authenticating using OAuth2. If you are not comfortable with this, our application also provides the option to sign in using a Personal Access Token directly from the Microsoft DevOps website. This will make sure we do not gain access to any kind of information about your project because our systems are not involved at all.

Risks and challenges
We invested a lot of time in our project planning which we currently do using Microsoft Azure DevOps. But as always - especially if a project relies on someone else's platform as ThreeOps does - there is the risk of changing APIs and SDKs which may lead us into problems with our calculated project time efforts. We always try to be in touch with Microsoft to minimize the risk of such things.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
