About this project
We Did it! Thank you so much for being a part of the project! We made it with 50 hours to go! Now what? How about a stretch goal?
Stretch Goals: So, what happens if we go way past $4000? If the project surpasses $5000 in pledges by the deadline on November 20th, all project backers above $15 will receive Pomodoro Penguin Pencils as part of their "Swag Pack" which already will include custom designed postcards, bookmark, a button, and stickers.
Backers who have pledged at
- $50 or more will receive a 5th book: Pomodoro Penguin and the Halloween Costume Conundrum.
- $40 or more will receive their choice of a 4th book,
- $30 or more their choice of a 3rd book,
- $20 or more a choice of their 2nd book.
This works out to $10 to book for everyone and includes shipping (international shipping charges apply) and the swag packs! So get out there and tell as many people as possible to order their books. Stay tuned for a video reading of the book tomorrow to help get you excited about it!
Here's a reading of the book:
About eight months ago, inspired by a pair of kitchen timers a children's book character was born. His name is Pomodoro Penguin.
Pomodoro is a sweet, friendly, curious, lovable, and inquisitive little red, pasta-loving penguin. He has a best friend - a little purple owl named Violet. Together, Pomo and Violet have helped a geography-loving giraffe named Falstaff find his lost glasses and missing magic globe, become fans of an opera singing turkey name Luciano on a trip to Italy to find the best pasta in the world, and read about a macaroni penguin named Arty.
Hi, I'm Bryce Westervelt - the writer, illustrator, singer and head pasta cook responsible for Pomodoro Penguin. To this point, I have written, illustrated, and digitally published the first four books - plus a brand new Halloween book - in a new children's series about Pomodoro and his friends.
The books are full of fun, colorful illustrations and smart, snappy rhyme. They are something I am really proud of. The reviews of the digital versions of the books have been awesome.
Of course, I now have friends, family, parents, grandparents, and even one Au pair in Italy asking me when print versions of the books are coming.
So this is where you come in. I need your help. I am hoping to accelerate the process of getting the first four books of the Adventures of Pomodoro Penguin into print in paperback.
Pomodoro Penguin Makes a Friend
This is a rhyming children’s picture book aimed at ages 4-8, perfect as either a bedtime story for younger children or a nice story for an early reader.
Join a little red Penguin named Pomodoro on his quest to cure boredom and find friendship. This pasta-loving bird may be different from the other penguins thanks to his marinara colored feathers, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t find a new friend.
Pomodoro encounters a bully, but in the end, it is his love of all things pasta that helps him find an unlikely dinner partner!
Pomodoro Penguin and the Geography Giraffe
This is the second book in the "Adventures of Pomodoro Penguin" series.
Join a little red penguin named Pomodoro and his friend Violet Owl as they spend an adventurous day in the park. While playing hide-and-seek, they spy a mysterious ball in the tree above.
As it turns out, the penguin and owl have stumbled a special globe that belongs to a wayward giraffe named Falstaff. The three new friends talk about geography and globes and look forward to exploring new places in the future.
Pomodoro Penguin Visits Italy
The adventure continues as Pomodoro and his friends Violet Owl and Falstaff the Geography Giraffe travel to Italy in search of the best pasta.
While in Italy they meet a new friend named Luciano, a singing turkey. Can the Opera Gobbler help the pasta-loving penguin and his friends find the best meal in Italy?
Pomodoro Penguin: Penguins, Penguins All Around
In the fourth book in the Adventures of Pomodoro Penguin series, Pomodoro Penguin and his friend Violet Owl are stuck inside the house thanks to an awful rainstorm. Thankfully, the little red penguin has just the right thing to pass the time – his favorite book “Penguins, Penguins All Around.”
Join Pomodoro and Violet as they read this special book, written by a Macaroni Penguin named Arty, which is chock full of penguin facts as well as a surprise or two.
Over the next 30 days- with your help- the plan is to raise the $4000 (or about $1000 per title) it would cost to make the books available in print.
Now for those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter this is a crowd funding website to help support various creative projects. When you make a pledge, it will not be collected until the end of the pledge period if we reach our goal! If we fall short, you won't be charged and you pay for nothing.
When we reach the goal, your money will pay for:
- Updating the illustrations to print ready quality
- Purchasing ISBN's numbers for the books
- Design of the print book layouts,
- Set-up and proof copies at the printer
- Expanding the digital book distribution beyond Amazon (iBooks, Nook, Kobo, etc.)
- Printing copies of the books for project backers, and fulfilling the pledge levels (including postage).
With this project there are backer levels for all budgets. Whether you want one book, all the books, or even your or your child's name in the book - I have you covered.
I'm even creating some fun Pomodoro Penguin swag like stickers, bookmarks, and limited edition postcards to sweeten the pot.
The Pledge Levels:
$1 - A special thank you and a Pomodoro Penguin button.
$5 - A special thank you card and access to the exclusive project backer blog and the button!
$15 - Your choice of one (1) signed first-edition paperback Pomodoro Penguin book, thank you card, blog access, and “swag pack” (sticker, 4 limited edition postcards, Pomodoro Penguin button, and a bookmark).

So, what happens if we go way past $4000? If the project surpasses $5000 in pledges by the deadline on November 20th, all project backers above $15 will receive Pomodoro Penguin Pencils as part of their "Swag Pack" which already will include custom designed postcards, bookmark, and stickers.
Backers who have pledged at $50 or more will receive a 5th book: Pomodoro Penguin and the Halloween Costume Conundrum. For everyone who is choosing a book at a level below $50, you can opt for the Halloween book as one of your choices.
If we can make it all the way to $6,000 and stretch goal No. 2. We will add an additional item to the "Swag Pack" that all project backers will help me choose. Who knows? It could be a notebook, crayons, a pencil pouch. One thing's for sure - we will design and choose something good.
Also, backers at $50 and above will get the next book in the series before it is released to the world: Pomodoro Penguin and the Library Lemur. That means 6 books instead of 4 - but that's not all. You will also help me give the Lemur a name and be able to get a first-hand look at my process of writing the book including getting sneak peeks at some of the book art.
So, won't you consider helping me and pledging your support. You can find more details about the books, the various ways you can secure your first-edition Pomodoro Penguin books, and make your pledge by visiting the project page! Together, let's get Pomodoro Penguin into print.
Please feel free to share this is post with your friends via Twitter and Facebook.

Risks and challenges
At this point there are no "foreseen" challenges. With the books already written, the only delays may come on the printing end of the process. We hope, however, that proof copies come back in great shape and that there are no delays with printing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
