There are two things I’m hoping to accomplish on Kickstarter with your help - record a new album and re-release some of my earlier projects that are out of print (Strong Medicine, Anonymous Confessions of a Lunatic Friend, Mercy, Slow Revival, Christmas Is Jesus, Quiet Prayers, Blue Skies and The Last Time I Was Here).
The $40,000 goal I’ve set is much less than the original recording budgets for many of my albums and they were recorded, let’s just say, “a few years ago.” Plus, there are costs to providing you with the cool perks you can choose from. However, Kickstarter uses an all or nothing model. We have to meet the goal or the project isn’t funded at all. So, I’m setting the budget, for recording a new album, re-printing some of my previous records, and sending you the things you choose at a fairly bare-bones level. We should be able to reach this goal together quite easily and hopefully we’ll blow past it. If we hit $40,000 I’ll get to record a new album for you and re-release the out-of-print albums. If we exceed the goal, the new album will be that much better and probably finished sooner too. Find answers to "What happens if you exceed your goal?" and other questions here and in the FAQs below.
These past albums are an important part of our journey together. I'm also excited to share new songs that reflect how God is working in our lives through times of hardship, growth, mercy and joy. There's a live-performance video of "I Can't Imagine," one of the songs I'm considering for the new album, below.
I’m grateful for God's grace, your support through the years and your help with this Kickstarter campaign. Let me show that gratitude by recording some new songs to share with you and by giving you some of the cool stuff you’ll see on the right side of this page --->.
You can be a HUGE help by sharing this page and the story behind it with your friends and family on social media, especially Facebook and Twitter. There are some links right under the video above that make it easy. The more people we reach before the deadline the better chance we have of making some good music together. So start sharing today!
P.S. - You'll find additional information on this campaign in the links below - like more about estimated delivery dates, notes for international backers, etc. and other questions here.
I Can't Imagine is one of the songs I'm considering for the new album. Check out the Let's Talk About It and Do You See What I See perks for ways to give me feedback during the song selection process.
Bob Carlisle & I did a medley of soul tunes, Blues Brothers style, on the Slow Revival tour. Ready (aka Christopher Redner) shot our performance in Tulsa, where he found some flashy yellow usher jackets for us to wear.
It's pretty basic: You provide a sound system suitable for the size of audience and venue, along with a keyboard, an acoustic/electric guitar and two direct in boxes/connections.
My accommodation needs are simple too: One hotel room, two meals and transportation to/from the airport.
In a word - nothing.
Kickstarter uses an all or nothing model. So, if we don't reach the goal the project isn't funded. Nobody who pledged support will be asked to provide it. None of the fun rewards will be produced or shipped. It will be as if we stepped back in time only we won't look any younger. In fact, I'll probably have more stress lines.
Kickstarter recommends 30 or less. My campaign started Nov. 12 and goes to Dec. 15 - 33 days - we allowed a few extra days because of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States.
We researched other successful campaigns and watched some play out in real time. Campaigns that ran too long seemed to lose a lot of momentum in the middle.

Absolutely! I’ve had such great experiences with my international audience and I want you involved. Plus, the guy who helped me put this campaign together is a Canadian and he’s helped me figure out how to make it easier for you be a part.
You can choose any of the perks that are delivered using the Internet (The Sneak Peak, That Has a Ring To It and I Heard It First) without any extra cost.
There are some extra shipping costs, compared to mailing the same items to an address in the United States, if you choose a pledge that is rewarded by sending something -- CDs, shirts, etc. -- by mail (all of the pledges above $25). So, you can simply add a bit to your pledge to cover those costs. I’ll trust you to be fair when estimating that amount.
If you choose a reward package that involves travel you’ll be responsible for the travel costs.
I’ll be communicating with you through Kickstarter during the project and once it is funded. If I can deliver your rewards earlier than estimated cost-effectively, I will. Some perks, especially those that involve travel, may need a bit more time to schedule but we’ll work that out together.
This campaign closed at the deadline but there will be more to come. So, if there's specific reward you you were hoping for so something you would have wanted to do through this campaign then send me a note using the "send a message" link above my photo.
