About this project
"Men, your life is just about to get more convenient." -- Blue Perk
"Every so often, a brand rises to the top that delivers a brand new concept for men's fashion. The shirting brand Teddy Stratford might be on the cusp of one such breakthrough."-- Details
"In addition to implementing that magic-making zipper, they thought to further improve the dime-a-dozen menswear staple with other patent-pending finishes, such as a special collar engineered to stay up right."-- Blackbook Magazine
"Not only is this an extremely beautiful and handmade garment, but the fit is also unmatched"-- The Box (Official magazine of Crossfit)
"I can honestly say that this shirt fits like nothing I’ve previously bought. The fit is incredibly good, it fits like a really good fitted T-Shirt which is something I’ve never previously experienced with a shirt, even a fitted style. It makes me wonder why this has not been thought of before."--Michael84.co.uk
After speaking to some close friends, running numbers, and negotiating pricing we realized we could logistically fulfill one of our goals as a company: To give something back to the community.
If we raise $85k we will be able to give a new school shirt to every student at the Harlem Democracy Prep Elementary and Middle Schools. Plain and simple.
In the words of Executive Director (and friend/fellow hockey player) Steve Cunning: "The mission of Harlem Prep is to educate responsible citizen-scholars for success in the college of their choice and a life of active citizenship. Over 80% of Harlem Prep's 650 scholars qualify for free or reduced price lunch. 100% are black or Latino and 100% are college bound"

As a member you will be able to purchase Teddy Stratford shirts for yourself (& your friends) for discount price of $95 for the next two years.
This would be an awesome way to reward the Kickstarters who got behind us. This is something big and we know we can pull it off. You can find out more perks and info about the Founders Club in our updates section HERE.
It was our best selling shirt until it was GONE. But we got to wondering if maybe there wasn't some still buried at the warehouse.....Well, after a lot of digging, we have the swatches in hand and it is confirmed available.
Check out our update for more info HERE
Due to popular demand we will be expanding our size run to include XS and XXL sizes.
You can find our new sizing chart on our main Kickstarter page and some measuring tips in our FAQ.
Most men’s shirts are too baggy, but fitted shirts, because they fit closer, tend to pull open around the buttons, making you look and feel like an overstuffed sausage. The Zip Fit shirt by Teddy Stratford solves this problem by placing a zipper behind the placket, enabling men to wear better fitting shirts without experiencing the “Bratwurst Effect.” Whether you’re in tip-top shape or could stand to lose a few pounds, the result is a slim, athletic fit that is unmatched by traditional men’s button downs. (And don't worry, there is a placket behind the zipper that prevents inadvertent manscaping.)
"I put the shirt on. I zip it up. I like it. You’ll like it too. And if you don’t like it…well, then it’s probably because you don’t care about how shirts are supposed to fit…or maybe you don’t own a pair of pants, so why even invest in a good shirt? I can understand that."--Bryan Paulk, Writer
Differentiating the shirt even further is a patent-pending solution to another problem that we call the “John Travolta Collar”--the gradual spreading open of a shirt collar, which, if left unchecked, leads to the wearer looking like a 70’s fashion victim.
Using a standard collar stay, we created an interlocking system that keeps the collar upright by anchoring it to the collar stand. For those who prefer the disco look or want to wear a tie with their shirt, the collar can be worn traditionally, and the stay is removable for laundering.
"The Teddy Stratford is the only shirt that has ever fit me the way a shirt should fit. Wide enough in the shoulders and zero extra material around the waist. Every time I zip it up it fits perfectly and looks great untucked, which is essential when I need to dress up my mountain attire." - Billy O'Donnell, Pro Skier. Founder: RIDGE Mountain Academy
Shaped like an athlete so that everybody looks like one.
Since well before the Renaissance, heroes and athletes have been depicted with wide shoulders tapering to a slim waist in a v-shape. With this in mind, we found the ideal ratio between a guy's shoulders, chest, waist and hips and applied it to the innovative Zip Fit design. The result is a shirt that fits athletic guys like it was custom made for them but also lends that shape to slimmer guys and guys who could stand to lose a few pounds.
- Premium Tailoring with the Best Materials on the Planet. While we believe that we have developed the best fitted shirt on the market, our mission doesn't stop at fit. Superior quality is also a guiding principle. We use shirting fabric from one of the top mills in Europe and stitch everything together using single-needle tailoring and flat-felled seams, which are more durable than the seams used on most shirts on the market.
Handmade in the Garment District of NYC. In 1960, 95% of clothing sold in the U.S. was manufactured in the New York Garment District, now that number has decreased to approximately 3%. But when you’re a small operation like we are, the best way to ensure the
highest quality craftsmanship is to keep it close to home. That’s why
Teddy Stratford shirts are cut, sewn, and finished around the corner
from where we work and live, in the New York City Garment District. Producing our shirts in New York City costs almost five times as much as producing the same thing overseas--but it's worth it.
- Quality Control. Teddy Stratford’s Master Shirtmaker, Carl Goldberg, has been making custom-tailored men’s shirts in New York City for over thirty years. He inspects each shirt before it leaves the shop to ensure that it meets Teddy Stratford’s rigorous standards.
Patent Pending. The Zip Fit shirt has two patents pending for its innovation. Right now, it can't be purchased anywhere in the world other than Kickstarter.
- Sold Direct to You. A shirt made in NYC of this quality would cost over $200 in a department store or at an online retailer. Add a brand name, and it would cost close to $300. The nature of Kickstarter's platform allows us to sell it straight to you for our wholesale price plus shipping and handling.
"I love the fit and style of the Teddy Stratford shirt and being in the fashion business over 20 years I know quality. Teddy Stratford is a beautifully curated line of mens tailored shirts with an ideal fit for any physique." - D'Angelo Thompson, Make Up Artist
When company founder Bryan Davis was pulled over for speeding in Bangkok, he noticed that the police officer's shirt fit him exceptionally well. After slipping the officer some cash for the location of the Royal Thai Police’s tailor, Bryan set off to have a uniform made. At the tailor he discovered the secret to the shirt’s fit: it zipped instead of buttoning, creating a closer fitting shirt without pulling open around the buttons. Bryan took the shirt back to NYC where he partnered with master shirt maker Carl Goldberg (CEGO Custom Shirts), founded Teddy Stratford, and worked with his team to develop the Zip Fit™ shirt, perfecting what he originally discovered on a policeman’s back in Bangkok.

Risks and challenges
Our fabric, lining, zipper, button, and label sources are ready to rock and roll. Our pattern has been tweaked, optimized and graded. Our factory is on board and we have made several samples with them to assure that their quality standards match our own. However, fashion production has many moving parts and steps along the way that need to be coordinated to assure timely delivery. The main obstacle we could run into is a manufacturing delay, but we think that this is unlikely since we have projected a February delivery date (which should give us plenty of time). Challenges can always arise, but we think we're prepared to handle whatever they might be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
