dRainCube Home is a Patent Pending 50-gallon water capture, storage and distribution device. Think of it as a square shaped rain barrel that mounts to your home or business up high, and out of the way. dRainCube features don't stop there, please be sure to watch the video above to learn more. There has never been a design like this.
With your help, we will be able to have molds built at multiple manufacturing facilities across the USA. Because our product is roto-molded, it takes time to make and because of size, shipping cross-country could get expensive. Multiple manufacturing locations shortens production time and shipping distance.
dRainCube Home is designed to be mounted as a left or right side installation. Same part installs to either side. The mounting process changes slightly, but there is no need to inventory multiple part numbers.
The mounting of dRainCube is done through beam distribution. Full weight is approximately 500 lbs. We will have an online educational program to certify installers. Although this could be done DIY, we recommend using our Certified Professional Installers.
Add capacity by installing dRainCube Home in series. Design and installation allows for multiple devices to be installed vertically along a common downspout. By doing this, you are able to store more water.
Refillable: Since dRainCube is intended to be a supplement, it doesn't need to go dry in times of drought. The design of DrainCube is such that it can be backfilled from a garden hose to continue normal operation even in times of drought. Don't lose your pretty landscape just because it hasn't rained. Refill dRainCube and move along.
A Great Upsell: dRainCube Home is a great product to upsell. Contractors in the roofing, siding, gutter and irrigation industry could all benefit from being a Certified Installer and promoting dRainCube Home.
How it works:
dRainCube installs elevated upon the side of your home or commercial building. It replaces a removed segment of downspout. As water enters from the top, the storage area fills. Once dRainCube reaches capacity (50 Gallons) any excess water still entering dRainCube is routed back out the exit channel and out the existing lower downspout section.
dRainCube can be painted to match the color of the home. We anticipate offering texture options to match popular residential and commercial siding.
The stored water is accessed by an outflow tube connected to a hose (seen in pic above) that can either be hidden behind the downspout or inserted and run inside the downspout to an accessible elevation. From there, dRainCube's stored water can be used however deemed fit. It can be setup with hose timers, solar-powered pump w/micro-irrigation or even a simple hose.
The outflow tube can receive an inline filter so the stored water becomes potable for a new variety of uses; drinking water for people, pets or agriculture.
Risks and challenges
So far the biggest challenge is harmonizing the design and mounting structure. Since DrainCube's width spans the distance of more than one stud or structural support, we are able to develop a bracket that uses beam loading theory. Spanning the weight across an upper and lower beam bracket we are able to direct the gravitational forces back against the structure and distribute the load over multiple framing supports.
We have a plan to create an online "Installation Certification Program for professional across the country. Completion of this program will allow purchasers to have confidence in the contractors they hire. We see our product being individually sold and installed by roofers, gutter contractors, siding contractors and irrigation professionals.
We will be using the Kickstarter updates and social media to keep our supporters and followers apprised of any challenges we encounter and expect to deliver a successful project and product within our target time-frame.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
