Slipcase Options, Stretch Goals and ECCC Video
It's been way too long since my last update and so I have a bunch of stuff to share in this one. :)
First of all, I had a great trip to Seattle to the Emerald City Comic-Con. We sold a bunch of books and made some new friends and talked with a bunch of old ones too. I finally got back in my studio yesterday and all caught up with email and I even made this little video about the trip. I hope you enjoy it.
And now for...
I have been thinking a lot about how I should do the slipcases for this series and even though I was originally thinking that I would just package all the books into one slipcase at the end, the more I thought about it and weighed the books (what all 6 would weigh) the more I started thinking about breaking it up into 2 or 3 slipcases. I have had some experience before with the reMIND slipcase and the thing about it is things start getting heavy fast with these hardcover books. There were a bunch of slipcases that got damaged in shipping for the reMIND boxset even though it only had 2 books in it. So I can only imagine how much more easily a six book boxset would would get damaged in shipping and moving it around.
So I started favoring the idea of doing 2 slipcases with 3 books in each. The two problems with that is that all the kickstarter backers who backed it would end up getting 3 books in a slipcase and the new one without. :/
The other problem was that it would not look very nice to have the last 3 books in one boxset because the spine colors for the books 5 and 6 will be white and black cloth. So it would end up being a green, white and black spine and that would just look funny, in my opinion.
So I started favoring the 3 slipcase option. With 3 slipcases, all the backers of this campaign (who add the slipcases) will get 2 slipcases filled with books. And the colors of the slipcases could match the colors of the spine better. Then when I have the final kickstarter next year for Books 5 & 6, I will be able to have the black and white cloth spines together in their own slipcase and the set will be complete.
Now, I'm not a very good designer and so I will have to hire someone to help me design these slipcases so that they look amazing. But I did throw together a BADLY designed mockup to prove just how bad my design skills really are. I do plan to have some art on the slipcases and the colors are still up in the air. I'm not sure if they will be all the same color or if they will all be unique. But I do want the image across the backside to reveal a picture when they are all placed together on the bookshelf. :)
So here is my badly done mockup as well as the dummy boxset that my printer gave me as a sample.
So now you can kinda see what I'm thinking. I will be adding a new tier that has all the collectors books (except for book 1 which will just be signed) and I will also add both slipcases as a single add-on for $25 for both slipcases that ANYONE can add to their existing tier. I'm not sure how to calculate how much to charge for shipping based on where you live and so I will just leave that up to you if you want to add any extra money to help me cover the shipping of the slipcases. Just so you know, in the reMIND campaign I charged $25 for just one slipcase and so this time you will be getting 2 for the price of 1.
So, check out the Add-on section and you will see the slipcase option now. :)
Any ideas for stretch goals this time? I am kinda thinking about doing an oversized postcard-signed-print at $35k. What you say? I'm open for ideas.
Thanks so much for helping me hit this goal again on the 4th book in this series. I am blessed to have you all for support.
See you in the next update!
