Dragons of Arcadia
Hello, Boss Monsters! Whenever we have big news coming, we like to share it with you first. Big news is definitely on the way, so let's jump into it.
Boss Monster Returns to Kickstarter
Since the end of our first campaign, Boss Monster players have asked us, "when are you launching another Kickstarter?" The wait is almost over. In four weeks, we will be back on Kickstarter with Boss Monster 2.
You might wonder why we're returning to Kickstarter this time around. We launched our first expansion, Tools of Hero-Kind, without further Kickstarter support. We've had a lot of success over the last two years, and it's always been our policy to make sure the bulk of our business goes through the friendly local game stores that keep our favorite hobby alive.
Even so, there are things that we want to do with Boss Monster 2 that a Kickstarter will make possible. It means we can make a fancy Limited Edition with holofoil cards, like the original Legendary Edition of the first Boss Monster. It gives us a chance to test ideas like a separate Collector Box designed to hold sleeved cards, which we'll bring to stores if response on the Kickstarter is good.
It's also a great way to spread the word about Boss Monster. To make the most of the buzz that builds during a Kickstarter campaign, we'll do everything we can to minimize the time between the campaign and our first shipments to game stores.
Shaking Things Up
You'll notice a few things about our next campaign that are different. The first is the turnaround time, which we're trying to make lightning-fast. The second is the length of the campaign itself, which will be shorter. We'll also be handling promo cards differently, to make sure we don't make any permanent "gameplay exclusives" like we did last time. The final big change is that we don't plan on including any "custom card" awards.
When we launched our first Kickstarter, we were two brothers just trying to scrape together enough funding for a print run of the game we'd designed. With that in mind, we filled our first campaign with options for backers to pay a little extra to make an impact on cards in the game. Our campaign for the Boss Monster app included another forty make-your-own-Hero cards, which will appear in the next print run of the core Boss Monster game. All told, we've involved backers in the design of nearly a hundred cards!
For Boss Monster 2, instead of more custom Heroes, we designed them all from scratch. Some are Hybrid Heroes, lured by more than one treasure. Some are Dark Heroes, who you can "pay" to deal more damage to an opponent. The rest are "vanilla" Heroes without ability text, but they'll be jam-packed with geeky references that we think you'll love.
But what if you wanted to place your stamp on Boss Monster 2? Like in a really, really big way? Well, there's still one option...
Become a Dragon
During our original campaign, one backer stepped up and threw a crazy amount of support behind a completely unknown game. His name is Tremane "Scythe" Barclay, and he pledged $1,000 for naming rights to our Golden Dragon. He named the dragon Kirax, a draconic twist on his wife's nickname. Kirax lives on as a rare promo card exclusive to our original Kickstarter edition.
Boss Monster 2 includes twelve Boss cards, including four dragon Bosses, which will appear in every copy of the game. Like Kirax, they have Level Up abilities that persist for the rest of the game. And just as we did with the Golden Dragon, we're giving you a chance to "adopt" a dragon. Instead of doing it to raise money for Brotherwise, though, we're auctioning off our dragons to support four great charities.
We've just launched four auctions through eBay Giving Works. Each gives you the chance to bid for the naming rights to a dragon, and each supports a great cause. Brotherwise Games will donate 100% of the winning bids directly to charity.

The Boss Monster 2 Kickstarter is just over a month away. The Boss Monster app is a little over a week away. The excitement is ramping up, and we can't wait to show you all the new cards. As always, thanks for your support and we hope to see you during the next campaign!
