About

Childhood was a much simpler time, when you didn’t have a care in the world and you could spend your days daydreaming at School about what it would be like to be a Pokémon Master. You could whip out your Gameboy Color™ on the way home and run around the Safari Zone trying to catch Chansey before that dreaded buzzer sounded. Then you could come home and catch up with Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu on TV. Pokémon was a such a unique story that captured the hearts and minds of children all over the world – millions of people either watching, playing or trading in the world of Pokémon. We were those kids, and we loved every minute of it. Oh how times have changed. Growing up, studying, working and generally being a responsible adult tend to get in the way of your childhood loves as you get older.

We want to take a trip down memory lane, re-imagine the Pokémon Universe – but in live action. We loved the original ‘Indigo League’ series, and with the backing of this project we would like to make a 30-minute fan-made, non-for-profit short film with some sweet acting, awesome Pokémon animations and of course some kick-ass Pokémon battles.

 The Story

Since his journey to the Indigo Plateau, Pokémon collecting, training and battling has become somewhat of a old pastime. Whilst Ash’s love for Pokémon and his desire to be the best still burns bright, the rest of the world seems to have moved on. We re-join Ash 15 years later as he tries to remind people that Pokémon is about much more than just battling. There'll be host of familiar faces in the film, as well as fully 3D modeled Pokémon. We have a full script drafted, all we need is a small amount of financial help to make it amazing! If you've seen our Broken Bricks videos before, you'll know we have a wacky comedic streak to us – something we hope will complement the film. Head over to our website to see all of our videos and projects to date.

We're sticking to the original 150 Pokémon for this film as these are the loveable rogues we knew and fell in love with. If we reach our target, and depending on the reception of the film – who knows? Perhaps we could see more Pokémon films in the future.

Why are we doing this?

This fan-made, non-for-profit (we can't stress that enough) film is something that has been on the periphery of our minds for years. All of us have experienced Pokémon in some form during our childhood, either in the form of the trading cards, the Gameboy™ games or by watching the animated series on TV. To date, we've yet to see a live-action Pokémon film made that does the original any justice – and this, ultimately is our goal.

Risks and challenges

Of course, as this is a fan-made, non-for-profit film (just in case you didn’t see it earlier), there are licensing issues and risks to do with the intellectual property and image rights of Pokémon. We will be treating the film under the ‘Fair Use’ section of Copyright Law and we're pretty confident that as we are paying the film homage, and staying true to the original tone and values of Pokémon, that Nintendo won't be taking any action.

We plan on filming during September and editing and producing all the effects up until the end of December. We'll be keeping a video diary of the project which will also act as a bonus video to go with the DVD Reward.

We all have full time jobs, so we'll mostly be shooting at weekends or organising time off. As a lot of the film is shot outside, we're very much at the mercy of the Great British weather – if we experience poor weather conditions, that may push back the shoot – which will then affect the release date of the film.
