Secrets in the Snow shows us the not-so-ordinary day in the life of six high school students trapped during a threatening snow storm.
How often do families gather around their television sets these days, sharing a common interest in the entertainment at hand and watching discussion worthy programs? There is so much media available to today's children and teens, but so little of it can do more than simply entertain. Wholesome, quality films and television shows are so hard to find and even harder to get youngsters to watch! Our goal for Secrets in the Snow is to create a film that families and audiences of all ages not only want to watch, but that inspires them with positive messages and encourages them to search deeper within themselves and within each other.
What's it about?
Secrets in the Snow deals with issues facing today's teens and families like body image, military parents, identity crisis, family bankruptcy, and finding answers to life's upsets through Christianity. But the film is so much more than a life lesson. Secrets features six high school students trapped together during a threatening snow storm and follows them throughout their day. These teens will do anything they can to survive the elements while conquering the biggest obstacle of all- getting along. The lurking danger and the personal conflicts are intermixed with the excitement and endless possibilities of having the entire school to themselves. What would you do? An Impromptu talent show and culinary class feast ensue, and a frozen knock from outside the school brings a whole new element to the evening!
What will it take to make it happen?
Filming over the course of ten days in the Triangle area of North Carolina, Secrets will be a collaborative effort of a very talented group of actors and crew members. The majority of the film will be shot at a local private school that is very excited to host our project! The film is being made for worldwide DVD, Television, and Internet distribution as well as the family and Christian film festival market. Apart from the usual distribution avenues, a high demand for wholesome films comes from churches, schools, libraries, Christian retailers and for TV channels such as Hallmark Channel , Gospel Music Channel and truTV. Nationwide DVD Distribution has been offered based solely on the strength of the screenplay, and we are confident many other avenues will open as our film is completed.
This brings us to the only obstacle standing in the way of completing our film- the M word... and no it's not Movie Magic, it's Money! (Isn't that always the case?) This is a passion project for everyone involved, and all cast and crew will be volunteering their time and working for minimal rates with the promise of creating a quality film for a meaningful purpose. But despite covering expenses of the talent involved, there are many factors and costs that come into play when making a feature film. Because we will be shooting digitally instead of on film we have already eliminated a great bulk of the cost involved in film making. And because our film isn't driven by explosives or CGI but an ensemble cast and dialogue driven scenes, this film can be made for a very minimal amount of money and still produce a big-budget-style product! The funding we raise will be used for the cost of locations, time and travel for cast and crew, meals for the cast and crew, equipment rentals, insurance, specialty costumes and props, and snow.Wait... how are you going to "buy" snow?
Good question! Thanks to a company in Raleigh called "Snow My Yard" we will be importing all of our snow for the film. Snow is purchased by the ton and refrigeration trucks bursting with a shaved ice mixture will create our winter wonderland. That sounds like fun, you say? Check out our reward that will get YOU on set for our snow day. We'll bring the hot chocolate!
