brimsuits was born out of a vision of sensible sun protection for active babies and toddlers. Some of my fondest childhood memories are playing outside. As a stay at home mom I now have my silly inner child play every day with my daughter, a majority of this time is spent outdoors. I struggled with putting my daughter's hat on when she would inevitably pull it off moments later. I tried several hats, and not one would last longer than five minutes before it was on the ground or worse, lost! This made me worried for her delicate skin.
The idea for brimsuits came to me one sleepless night while putting my sweet girl back to bed. As I looked at her beautiful skin I knew there had to be a way to protect her from damaging effects of the sun without sacrificing our outdoor fun. Then it hit me - develop a superior, wearable product that keeps hats on and UV rays off while making one small aspect of parenting simpler.
What started as sketches has transformed to a working prototype through several meetings with patent attorneys, professors, and our manufacturer.
We now have working prototypes and our reputable manufacturer is working on development of the product. Our first production run is expected this winter, and we will have product this spring - perfect timing for little one's outdoor adventures!
Our number one priority is sun safety while satisfying children's need to play and explore. Our patent pending design is made with UPF 50+ materials and provides unbeatable sun protection. The cap covers little ones head, side flaps shield neck and ears, with a brim to protect sensitive face and eyes.
We feel that we have 3 distinct competitive advantages.
1) Superior sun protection. All of our fabrics are made with UPF 50+ materials and we have a patent pending on the attached brimmed hood - protecting the child's body, neck, ears and face from sun’s harmful UV rays.
2) The hat is attached to the shirt, so it makes pulling the hat off over the face impossible. There is a tie closure under the chin, adjustable draw string head size, and a wide brim for optimal sun protection.
3) Even if the hat is removed it will be conveniently attached and ready to put back on in seconds. No more worrying about losing hats, having them blow off in the wind, or sink to the bottom of the pool/ocean
We will start by offering two designs each for girls and boys in both the brimsuit and brimshirt. These will be offered in sizes ranging from 3 months - 24 months. ***UPDATE We will also be offering the products in sizes 3T and 4T. As the rewards can not be changed at this time it will still not say this on the reward description but in the survey sent after campaign completion you will be able to choose these sizes.
brimsuit - made with 90% Micropoly and 10% Spandex. It is 50+ UPF, the highest grade available. These will include a swim top with attached brimmed hood and a matching bottom (shorts for boys and bikini bottom with ruffle skirt for girls). Perfect for the pool, beach, boat, splash pad - you name it!

* Please note that the photos shown are our prototypes and are not necessarily going to be the same fabric patterns as the final products that will be delivered.
Our fabric is of the highest quality. It is 90% Micropoly and 10% Spandex 50+ UPF (the highest UPF rating available). The fabric will NOT fade over time or with washing.
One of the most significant reasons we chose this fabric is because it is moisture wickable from the yarn up. Most fabrics do a treatment after the fabric is knitted using regular yarn. Fabric used for our garments have the Moisture Wicking built into the yarn so it will NEVER wash off. It will stay Moisture Wicking for the life of the garment.
Why we need your Support
We are raising money to help fund our first production order. To get the cost per garment down to a manageable price we have calculated the order will need to be roughly $20,000. If we can raise half of that we are confident we will have our product to market by Spring 2017!

Risks and challenges
Being new to the clothing industry there were risks and challenges brought to our attention. The biggest risk was protecting our cutting edge design. An integrated sun hat and shirt for babies and toddlers did not exist before brimsuits. We worked with a local patent attorney and are proud to say we are patent pending and very confident of being approved.
The biggest challenge was finding a mentor to guide us through the vast and ever-changing child apparel industry. Luckily we teamed up with a professor at North Carolina State College of Textiles that helped us navigate through many of the obstacles and brought our design to life with a working prototype. We are now working with a seasoned manufacturer and have a great relationship with their employees.
Another challenge was finding the right fabric. My daughter has worn several fabrics in the summer that are not breathable, causing her to overheat. Our fabric is not only breathable, but is the highest quality UPF 50+ material on the market - it will not fade and will last wash after wash, child after child.
We feel as if we have made large strides in overcoming our challenges and mitigating our risks, we also are prepared to overcome any hurdles that may come our way. Over the past several months we have done a lot of networking and created strong relationships with people in the retail/entrepreneurship world. They have been a huge support and continue to be in contact. We look forward to bringing you the best outdoor apparel for your kids to both protect them from the sun, and also to make this protection easier for the parents.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
