Joshua Eldredge Howes, my great-great-great grandfather, was born in Dennis Port, Massachusetts in the mid-19th century. An opinionated and unguarded narrator, Joshua's personality brightens his already fascinating story of life as an ocean-going Cape Codder.
Joshua wrote this memoir in 1919, the last year of his life, describing his childhood on Cape Cod, fishing the coastal waters of the United States & Canada, and an eventful voyage to Peru, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Joshua's original, handwritten manuscript has been transcribed and annotated with assistance from family members and historians, notably Elaine Graybill and Burt Derick. The book will be printed in partnership with the Dennis Historical Society, which will receive any profits to support their work in preserving valuable historical artifacts from the area.
Risks and challenges
Your books should be shipped by the end of January 2015, but delays can always arise. However, the work of editing and annotating the journal is done, and we have already identified a printer, so the risk should be minimal!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
