About This ProjectMonster Hunter Academy wants to get kids all over the world smiling at the thought of a minotaur and using their imaginations. When kids know there will be something delivered each month just for them, it allows their excitement to build as it gets closer to the arrival date. Monster Hunter Academy will deliver that excitement each month, along with much more! Every Monster Hunter In Training can look forward to: an epic board game with limitless possibilities; a monthly new monster addition; monster stats, tips, and tricks; plus fun activities to play along with their parents in order to hunt those monsters outside of the board game. This is a perfectly geeky way to bring families together and get kids thinking creatively.
A classic dungeon setting is the backdrop as players assume the roles of tough hunters bound and determined to do three things: to defeat as many monsters as possible, to collect treasure, and to make it out unscathed.
Players become bona fide monster hunters as they delve into dungeons filled with beasts and obstacles. At the beginning of each session, players choose one of three game modes in which they will compete.
Can you be the first to find and claim the treasure? Monster Hunters race against each other to be the first to collect the one and only treasure tile on the board. All players begin at the same starting point and move quickly to win both the treasure and the game. But watch out, not only do monsters and obstacles lie in wait to slow you down or turn you around, but your fellow hunters will be placing new monsters and traps throughout the game.
Can you confront and capture the most monsters? This version of the game starts with extra monsters and obstacles on the board and the hunters at various starting points. Gameplay ends when all of the monsters have been captured. Stay on your toes to overcome obstacles, and race the other hunters to confront the most monsters. The player with the most beastly trophies is the winner and ultimate monster hunter!
Can you be the first to brave the dungeon and make it out? Monster Hunters all begin at one end of the dungeon and race to the other end to be the first to escape. Watch your step, because this version is loaded with monsters and obstacles to make an escape treacherous.
Monster Hunter Academy builds upon itself each month adding more monsters and options. This means that your family can enjoy continuous play that grows and changes just like your little hunter or huntress.
This is a year-long adventure where you will get something in the mail every month for 12 months. Prior to the first mailing parents will receive a Monster Debriefing email which will give them a basic understanding of the upcoming monster. Parents can also expect each debriefing to include additional suggestions for fun family projects related to that month's monster. This not only makes you as the parent an instant monster expert, but it also allows you to prepare or acquire any supplies you might need for the monsterously fun projects.
The first mailing that is sent out will include the following:
The Game Box: Box Rendering (not final art, but close)
4 Unique Dungeon Boards: They can be arranged in dozens of unique layouts.
Front of the game boards
Back of the game boards (great for displaying!)
One of the Monster Cards: Shown below are the monster cards for the entire first year.
Welcome Letter & Unique Monster Hunter Academy ID: With the recipient's name and photo

We've got some great stretch goals planned, and even more ideas if this gains momentum!
Reach. We want as many people as possible to see Monster Hunter Academy and get as excited about it as we are. This was developed for our son and we saw how much he (and the rest of us!) loved it. We figure there are other kids out there that would want to be Monster Hunters too!

Monster Hunter Academy is a passion project for us. We have tried to keep the costs at the bare minimum to cover the production of game and mailings. The design has gone through a couple rounds of revisions, and the files are ready to be sent to the printer as soon as this campaign is funded.
We wanted to handle the printing and fulfillment locally at a great printer right outside of Atlanta. Our design company has worked with this printer for years and they produce some of the best printing we have seen. Every piece of this game, with the exception of the dice, will be produced right here in the state of Georgia. This will allow us to not only go on press checks to ensure great quality, but also reduce the production time because they won’t have to get shipped on a boat from China.
To ensure every backer's order is accounted for, we will be using Backerkit to manage the final surveys and backer information.
We wanted to keep the barrier to entry as low as possible while still having the impact of a monthly mailing. The more people that sign up to become Monster Hunters the less expensive it is to produce each individual game. Rather than line our pockets with the extra money, we’ve designed the stretch goals we’re offering to allow for additional production costs and add more excitement for the players.
Based on others' experience, we will be charging shipping outside of the continental US after the Kickstarter concludes, based on the actual costs incurred to ship. We will collect this via our pledge manager after the campaign ends. This is so we can be fair to all our backers as shipping is rarely one size fits all, and also give you more stretch goodies and possibly a choice of carrier options.
We will ship your rewards at our cost to international hubs. Depending on where in the world you are, we will either ship to you from a hub in Germany (EU backers), China (Asia Pacific backers), Canada (Canadian backers), Australia (Australia and New Zealand backers) or Atlanta (USA and the rest of the world). Following is a list of rough estimates for shipping a standard game package. Keep in mind these are just estimates, and costs may rise based on weight increases from unlocked stretch goals and any optional buys you choose.
- USA: Additional $20 to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
- CANADA: $10-$20 to most cities.
- LATIN AMERICA: $50-$60 to most countries.
- ASIA: $10 to China and Hong Kong. $30 to most other countries (we can't predict an estimate cost to Malaysia).
- OCEANIA: $13-$25 to Australia. $30 to New Zealand.
- AFRICA: $70 to most countries.
- EUROPE: $10 to Germany.
- $15-$30 to most other countries.
- $35 to Norway, Finland, Estland, Lettland, and Latvia.
- $40 to Bosnia/Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia.
- $55 to Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Romania.
- $60 to Iceland, Russia, and Israel.
- $70 to Greece, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter campaign, so there are certainly going to be some challenges. Luckily we know a decent number of people who have successfully launched Kickstarter campaigns and we have been picking their brains throughout this entire process.
For us, the biggest challenge will be getting this out in front of as many people as possible. Our social followings are not large and their reach is not as great as we would like it to be. We need your help to make sure more kids can be a part of Monster Hunter Academy, so please help us spread the word. One day when we meet, I will graciously thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
