The Prague Playhouse is preparing a summer production of Steven Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s classic musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The production will be the most ambitious project yet for our company, which for the past 8 years has brought high-quality English-language theatre -- including works by Mamet, Dickens, and 12 new playwrights -- to the Czech capital at affordable prices.
Now we're asking for your support as a founding sponsor in making this big jump in the Prague Playhouse’s ambitions and scale.
Staging Sweeney Todd will requires us to raise our game and expand in all directions, including the incorporation of a 10-piece live orchestra and a 12 person chorus. We’re also bringing renowned director and choreographer Steve Josephson -- executive artistic director of the Gallimaufry Theatre (Laguna Beach, California) to Prague to work with us on the project.
The Prague Playhouse’s past successes have been the result of a great amount of work -- producers, actors, directors and technical staff all work on a volunteer basis. The bulk of our budget has come from ticket sales. But we can’t make it on ticket sales alone, this time.
That’s why we’re hoping that you’ll provide some material support for our efforts to expand our range and our audience. In a city that’s famous for its bridges, you can help the Prague Playhouse continue to build bridges between linguistic communities.
We’re looking to raise at least $3,000 for The Prague Playhouse and its production of Sweeney Todd over the next few weeks. Would you consider making a donation -- and receiving the wonderful incentives we’re offering as a thank you -- at one of the following levels?
- Gold member: $1,000
- Silver member: $500
- Bronze member: $250
- Member plus: $100
- Basic Member: $50
- Friend of the Playhouse: $1 - 25
For full descriptions of the incentives at each level, please visit http://contacts.pragueplayhouse.com/series/membership/order. The Prague Playhouse, o.s. is a registered not-for-profit company in the Czech Republic. All donations are tax deductible. Even a small donation goes a long way towards significantly raising the bar on what English-language theatre in Prague can be.
