WE ARE FUNDED!!! LET'S KEEP GOING!!!
Wow. First, I wanna say thank you to everyone who donated to this project. We have just hours left and we're already past our goal. With your help we can prove that a simple sauce from Kansas City made by two guys with a passion for BBQ can be tastier and healthier than the mainstream brands that fill grocery aisles with high fructose corn syrup and other unhealthy ingredients. For those of you who backed this project, we can't wait for you to try the sauce. It's made with only 16 simple all-natural ingredients you probably have in your fridge. And hopefully it will soon be your new favorite BBQ sauce - just in time for grilling season!
And if you haven't donated yet, we would love to hear what you think of our sauce, and your support will definitely get put to good use.
So please, while there is still some time left, give it some thought, before it's too late...
Before you get distracted, I wanna say thanks!!!
Here's the deal. First of all, thank you for giving me this much of your attention span. With so many awesome distractions on the internet, I'm honored that you've given me any of your time at all. And if you watched our video, you deserve a free bottle of sauce. I really don't like being on video, but this is one thing I'm really passionate about.
I want you to help us launch the best all-natural, gluten-free BBQ sauce in the world at the Gluten and Allergen Free Expo in Chicago this April.
I know, there are a million BBQ sauces out there, and everyone claims to be the best. But this is more than a BBQ sauce; it's an all-purpose condiment that tastes great on so many things. Not only is our sauce loved by carnivores, vegetarians, and even toddlers (see the video below), this is definitely the most diverse sauce I've ever tasted. I put it on breakfast scrambles, use it as pizza sauce, it rocks a mean dip- I even put this stuff on steak, which sounds like a sin. For some odd reason, it works on everything - including classic BBQ standards.
So here's where you come in...
We're asking you to help us get our product to the Gluten and Allergen Free Expoin Chicago on April 12th and 13th. By donating, you can help us introduce our sauce to thousands of visitors at the Expo. This will be an excellent event to test our product and hopefully build momentum toward nationwide distribution.
We're not a big company. And we definitely aren't independently wealthy. But that's the beauty of Kickstarter. If you can spare a bit of cash for a donation, you can help a small company, and be one of the first to try a great new product.
Plus, by donating to this project, you will be doing more than putting another BBQ sauce on the shelf. You will be helping us spread the word that BBQ can be health-conscious & delicious.
It all started…
About a year and a half ago when I realized I can't have gluten for health reasons. So I created a website called Gluten-free for Men as a way for me to have fun and explore gluten-free foods and brands that appealed to me.
"But wait, aren't most BBQ sauces gluten-free?"
You would sure think! And so did I... Until I took a closer look at the ingredients in most sauces . To my surprise, a lot of BBQ sauces do contain gluten - plus, a lot of other crap, like high fructose corn syrup, liquid smoke flavoring, and other ingredients I can't spell or pronounce.
So one night last Winter, I expressed my frustration to my longtime friend, Jason, as we were grilling in my backyard. After a few gluten-free beers and a serious pep talk, we decided that our mission in life was to make an all-natural, gluten-free sauce that anyone would love, no matter their diet or lifestyle.
After a months of testing 100's of recipes, we finally cracked the code, and wrote our perfect recipe. We took it to Original Juan Specialty Sauces, a local sauce manufacturer about a mile from my house. We made up a test batch in their kitchen. And it tasted even better than our homemade versions.
Compare our ingredients and nutrition info with your favorite sauce - and then compare the taste.
And when the nutritional information came back we knew we had something special. After comparing it to other sauces, I think we proved that keeping it simple - we're talking 12 total ingredients - is the way to go. How many sauces in your fridge only contain 20 calories, 3 grams of sugar, and 110mg of sodium?
After testing our recipe with the manufacturer, we worked with an awesome design company to get a label we felt reflected our old school approach to making sauce. Then we promptly hit the Kansas City market, which is a tough nut to crack, with sooooo much competition in the area. But so far, the response has been great! I've met people with celiac, parents of autistic children, and people who have no issues with gluten- who all love the sauce.
Right now, we're in several large grocery stores and some specialty stores as well. We even made our first television appearance on KC Live in Kansas City to promote the sauce and this project on the day of our launch.
One last plea. Just go with me on this one...
Imagine if you had been lucky enough to follow the Grateful Dead, inspire Ben & Jerry's to churn out ice cream, or tell Steve Jobs "You know what, man? I think you should call your company 'Apple.' Who cares what The Beatles will think?" It would be a great story, wouldn't it? So maybe there's a chance - even if it's a small one - that you can be a part of something cool by supporting us.
Here's our current info sheet so you can see our ingredients and nutrition info for yourself...
And just so you know…
We do not have any money budgeted to put in our pockets for profit. Everything we are budgeting is a necessary expense. This project is meant to produce the sauce we need to sell at the Expo, and pay for our bare minimum essentials to attend the weekend long event. We're simple guys, and we care more about getting the word out out our sauce than putting money in our pockets right now.
We have several donation levels, and anything you can give is appreciated. Seriously. Even if you just have $5 or $10, we will thank the heck out of you on our website!
Anyway, thanks again for giving us this much of your time. We hope you choose to donate and be a part of our journey!
And here's the design for our Kickstarter limited edition shirts…
Check out what real people have to say!
Yes, you heard that right! I actually spoke with real humans and asked what they think about it. I don't usually try to film people when I'm demo'ing the sauce because it's awkward. But I brought a camera to a demo and talked with two women who have celiac. I also took a crockpot of brisket to work, grabbed a few people and pulled em into the 'Wizard of Oz' conference room...
Thanks again for checking out our project!
Risks and challenges
Look, this isn't our first rodeo. We've already gone through the process of producing our first batch of sauce, so we know what it takes. So as long as the sauce manufacturer, the t-shirt printing company, and the Post Office stay in business, we should be good to go.
We have also discussed our product with the Gluten and Allergen Free Expo and understand the terms and conditions of attending. We are confident there will be no issues with that. (They even gave us permission to use their logo above, so we are on the same page with them about this project.)
We also know plenty of nice parks in the Kansas City area where we can throw a swingin' BBQ picnic if you donate at that level.
We also have a very reliable and reputable sauce manufacturer, Original Juan Specialty Sauces, who has proven they are capable of helping us deliver a great product on time.
The worst that could happen is a delay in production for some unforeseen reason, such as the manufacturer gets backed up. This is rare, and would only push the rewards back a few weeks at most.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
