Update: editing done, exciting times, plus: do you like to play games?

First off, where are we with the production?

  • book has been edited AND copyedited (yay! Twice the editing for TWICE THE FUN)
  • poster is almost done
  • I've just came home from the first audiobook recording session and it is going to be GREAT
  • all of the art is ready, with the exception of one image (we've decided to give the book-within-a-book it's own within-the-book cover, and that's the last piece of art we need)

This is all awesome! PLUS, the choose-your-own play version Shakespeare In Busan is working on is coming along in a very exciting fashion. I'll post cast shots in a future update but for now here are two images: one of the stack of scripts taken by Ryan Estrada and one with markup by co-director Peter Starr Northrop:

This is going to be TOTALLY NUTS. Also nuts: today Mentalfloss featured us as one of the 7 coolest translations of Hamlet. Nice!

Finally, I wanted to mention two other Kickstarters that you might find extremely interesting! The first is by my friend (and Machine of Death co-editor David Malki!) and is called Machine of Death: The Game of Creative Assassination. It's a storytelling game where you play as assassins, and it is kind of the best? They're already well above their goals and into insane stretch goal territory so I recommend you check them out, since as a backer of To Be or Not To Be, you have already shown an interest in insane stretch goals.

The second is by my friend Brad O'Farrell (who created Keyboard Cat! Seriously) and is called STORY WAR : The Storytelling Party Game. It's a game where you straight up battle your friends with imagination powers. It is a lot of fun too, and also in insane stretch goal territory and if you back both the Story War AND Machine of Death Kickstarters you get special crossover cards for both games!

That sounded like cool times so I got in on it too: as a backer of To Be Or Not To Be, your special perk is that if you back Story War you get sent three extra cards that extend the game, and they feature our versions of Hamlet, King Hamlet, and Ophelia. There's nothing extra you have to do to get these cards: both Story War and To Be Or Not To Be are being fulfilled by Breadpig, so we'll know you backed both automatically and you'll get the bonus stuff.  Here's the front of Ophelia's card!

Okay so totally check out these games!  In the next update I should be able to share some pictures of the goodies going along with To Be Or Not To Be and they may well be off the hook.

So it was *just* announced that, in addition to Qwantz MOD cards, there will now be TBNTB cards in MOD!!! This is crazy cross-over territory!! I hope the universe can survive!! (and I hope Ryan gets some much needed rest...sometime this year)

Wow. The MOD project saw a huge boost in the last two days. It's blowing through stretch goals way faster than Malki ! can even tell us what they are. I attribute the bump directly to the extra publicity in this update. Good work!

If Horatio somehow became an extra card in Story War, I would be extremely pleased. His one trait: he's the only character that doesn't die.

Thanks for the update Ryan! I was actually wondering just yesterday what had happened to this project, lol. Story War seems so cool but I'm not allowing myself to spend any more money I don't have on kickstarter projects after backing Torment.
Great to see the book is coming along well!

Thanks Ryan North, I just spent $50 hard earned graduate school money on two new board games >.<

Do the cards come in PDF format as well?

Sweet! This means I'll own two of the 7 geeky Hamlets (the other being Klingon).

You are already doing cards for Machine of Death correct? Or will there be something extra special for backing that project too?

      So pumped to get this!!

The best part about this update is the fact that I've already pledged to both of these.
