A Cinematic Approach to Pokémon Music
Ahhh! There's nothing more nostalgic than hearing the 8-bit tunes of your favorite childhood video games brought to life through lush, orchestral arrangements, as evidenced by the rising popularity of video game concerts like Video Games Live, Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy, and Play! A Video Game Symphony. But there's one video game series close to my heart that hasn't received enough recognition from these musical circles...
Through my project Pokémon Reorchestrated, I've made it my duty to reinvent the music of the handheld Pokémon RPG series in the style of traditional movie scores, making downloadable mp3 versions of my arrangements available to the public for free via my website and streaming them on YouTube for all Pokémon fans to hear.
Now I think it's finally time to tackle the soundtrack to the games that started it all: Pokémon Red and Blue Versions for the Game Boy. For the next few months, I'll be arranging every memorable Pokémon theme on a journey from Route 1 to Indigo Plateau, and through the magic of highly-realistic, sampled orchestral instruments and the help of a few LIVE solo instrumentalists, a complete album of FREE, beautiful, cinematic arrangements called "Kanto Symphony" will emerge.
Here's a teaser track of what's to come on the album--a haunting arrangement of the ghostly Lavender Town:
We will need some help. Any pledge you can make toward Kanto Symphony will go toward paying the incredibly talented live musicians I've assembled from around the world to be featured as a cohesive, human element on what might otherwise be an album based on "replicated" orchestral sounds.
But I'm not asking you to do it for free! Not only will you earn some awesome rewards (including bonus tracks, a physical copy of the album, plushies and trading cards from my personal collection), you will also be ensuring that Kanto Symphony will have some of the best talent in the Pokémon fan community playing music on the album--wait, are you laughing? What, seriously! People often underestimate the epicness of the Pokémon series and its music, and I'm here to show them otherwise!
Don't believe me? Check out the rest of my YouTube channel for more music from Pokémon Reorchestrated! And stay tuned to updates for more on Kanto Symphony's soloists. Let's show the world that Pokémon's influence is here to stay. After all, it's more than just a franchise. It's a way of seeing the world through a lens of adventure, learning, and true friendship--something I feel many games fail to offer nowadays.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my project, watch my videos, and listen to my music! :D If you have any questions, feel free to message me! I'll be building an FAQ based on your inquiries.

I estimate Kanto Symphony to be completed by the end of summer 2012 / early fall 2012, but who knows! It could be finished earlier. As a cushion, I've set early delivery dates for the digital album, physical albums, and bonus tracks to Oct. 2012. The free download to the general public will go live a week or two afterward.
Also, I mixed up the dates for the $1 and $10 pledges! The reward for backers who pledge $10 is marked as being delivered by Jan. 2012, but this only counts for the special mention portion (unless I miraculously ship everyone's awards that month AND finish the album by then). The $1 donors will also get the special mention in January.
