Bravery Magazine is a quarterly print publication for children that features strong female role models.
Each issue highlights a brave woman and a trait she embodies. The entire magazine will help teach children about the life, work, and contributions of the woman we are featuring. Each issue will include beautiful illustrations, stories, fun DIY's, and educational activities. Bravery will serve as a resource parents can use to help teach their girls and boys about real, brave women who have done real, brave things.
As parents living in a society of princess culture and male-dominated children’s books, we were frustrated by the lack of resources available to teach our children about brave, smart women who did hard things. We wanted to provide other options for our kids besides princess dresses and fairy wands. We wanted to introduce them to strong female role models—REAL women who have done real, brave things.
In our research, we found a small amount of books and online resources, but nothing that met our needs. We wanted MORE. We wanted something we could do together with our children beyond reading books with them. We wanted something interactive that was also beautifully designed, fun, and empowering.
So, we created Bravery.
Bravery Magazine is the tool we were searching for. It's a resource that parents can utilize as they encourage their children to follow their dreams and work hard. We hope Bravery will be something you will do together with your children and we know that it will help foster meaningful conversations, and empower your children (and you) to be your own kind of brave.
For each issue of Bravery, we handpick a brave woman who has made an impact on the world in some way. The entire magazine will explore the facets of her life, dreams, and accomplishments. Bravery is playful and engaging, easy to read, and appealing to a younger audience. Each issue will include:
-Beautiful, illustrated stories of the life and work of the featured woman
-Fun DIY activities for parents and children to do together
-Original content and artwork created specifically for Bravery Magazine
-Playful and educational activities for all ages
-A parent section that includes essays, artwork, and a little bit of humor
Bravery is for everyone. Though the activities and stories have been specifically designed with boys and girls ages 4-9 in mind, we think that kids (and adults) of any age will love this magazine. If you're thinking that Bravery is just for girls, think again! We have specifically designed the magazine with girls and boys in mind. We believe that it's important for girls to learn from experiences of inspiring women, but we also know it's equally important for boys to learn from the experiences of inspiring women too.
Bravery features strong female role models that both your boys and girls can look up to, learn from, and emulate as they navigate childhood and learn how be their own kind of brave.
Bravery is so much bigger than issue one. We’re not just creating a magazine -- we’re creating a movement. Our dream for the future of Bravery Magazine is to be able to highlight many different women in a variety of fields and backgrounds so our children can see real, brave women doing real, brave things.
We know that introducing strong role models to our boys and girls will empower them to do brave things. With your help, we can bring the past and present together to create a better future for our children.
So, what is a stretch goal?
Glad you asked. A stretch goal is a funding target set beyond our original Kickstarter goal of $27,000.
Our specific stretch goals are a fun way for us to add more interactive content to our first issue and get you involved in our process.
STRETCH GOAL #1
Right now, these super cute illustrations above would need to be cut up and glued onto the the next page, but if we can unlock this stretch goal, we can turn those cute little drawings into stickers!
This stretch goal will be unlocked when we reach $45,000 in pledges. Everyone who has pledged for a reward that includes a magazine will receive this sticker page in their copy of Bravery!
STRETCH GOAL #2
Once we hit our second stretch goal of $80,000, EVERYONE who has pledged will have the opportunity to vote for who we will feature in our third issue. Stretch goals are fun!
You can help us meet these stretch goals by spreading the word about Bravery Magazine! Tell your friends, share online, and more! You are also welcome to increase your pledge in order to help us meet a stretch goal.
If your country isn't listed as one that we ship to, please contact us at email@example.com and we will add your country and the shipping fees to our rewards!
Meet Ashley and Elyse, the faces and mothers behind Bravery Magazine. We have an opposites attract kind of friendship, but we have a few key interests in common: we both like Waffle Crisp, a good pun, and have big ideas. Our idea for Bravery Mag was born from our frustration at the lack of kid-friendly and interesting tools to help us teach our kids about bravery and strong female role models. Bravery Magazine is a tool we've worked hard to create to help your kids (and you) be your own kind of brave.
All funds raised on Kickstarter will go directly toward the printing and shipping of this first issue, the cost of rewards, and to help fund subsequent issues.
When the Kickstarter campaign has ended, our printing company will print and deliver the completed magazines to us. We will then assemble packages and you will receive your magazine and rewards within 4-6 weeks of our Kickstarter ending!
By pledging to help fund Bravery Magazine, you’re not only helping us get our business off the ground, you’re also empowering your children to dream and do. You are teaching them to be strong and brave by introducing them to others who were strong and brave. With your help, we will be able to create many future issues of Bravery Magazine.
Thank you so much for your excitement and support of our project. We know that this wouldn’t be possible without your help!
We have been working day and night on this project for months. Now that’s it’s ready, we need your help in letting others know about us. We would love if you would help us spread the word about Bravery Magazine to your friends and family!
Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges for issue 1 of Bravery are almost non-existent at this point. We've been working for almost 8 months on this magazine. It's created, it's ready, and it's waiting to be printed and shipped.
If any issues arise during the production of the magazine or rewards that push back the delivery date of your pledge, we will be transparent as possible and update you accordingly.
We are confident in the success of Bravery, but starting a business is risky. If for some reason, Bravery is unsuccessful in the coming months, we will not be able to create subsequent issues. In that event, backers who pledge to receive a subscription or gift subscription run the risk of not receiving the subscription issues they pledged for. If that happens, Bravery will be unable to refund subscription pledges. We don’t anticipate this happening, but we want you to know all of the inherent risks of Kickstarter. This is a Risks and Challenges section after all. :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
