Thief's Hoard is a party card game for 2-8 players and takes 15 minutes per player to play. Players try to amass a hoard of artifacts worth $10,000 and keep them until the end of a round. During a round, all players will be engaged in secret bids to steal artifacts from the museum, as well as playing cards to steal from opponents. However, the Pinkertons are watching, and will arrest Thieves that get too greedy too quickly!
Every Artifact has a different monetary value, as well as how much Prestige it gives you, and how much Heat you get for stealing it. Thief cards can be used to help you gain new artifacts, as well as setback your opponents. It's hard to see who could win, as every round brings new cards and combinations that turn someone who is falling behind to being in the lead.
Thief's Hoard has more than three years of development behind it, including hundreds of playtests, with all types of gamers and non-gamers at conventions and other venues.
New Pledge Levels!
Some details on the new Pledge Levels:
- The Burlap sacks are fully lined with 100% cotton to protect your game box. They are handmade, with the logo and money sign stenciled with durable fabric paint. The leather tag is laser etched and dyed in house. The rope used to close the bag is a smooth, soft nylon for durability and comfort.
- The wooden boxes are customized after we receive the unfinished wood. We stain the wood, and then the logo plate is laser etched in house. We also have designed and are laser cutting the wooden dividers ourselves. The felt lining will be glued in place by hand, so each box can be made to order.
- The Create Your Own Artifact pledge level means you get to name any artifact you like, and we'll do the rest. For example: Maybe you want to see Exaclibur? Our artist will create a special rendition of Excalibur, put your name on it as it's curator, and we'll add the card to the base game!

With endless combinations of Thief cards, every game has a different outcome - even multiple winners!
We want to add a lot of cool cards to Thief's Hoard, so we've decided on a special Backer Achievement system! You've probably seen other campaigns that do something similar, and we loved the idea!
So for every two (or so) achievements that you, the Backers, unlock - we add new cards to the game! It doesn't matter which Achievements are unlocked, or in what order, just that a certain number of them are achieved.
Check out the Stretch Goals below, with the number of Achievements needed to unlock them!
- Each Player takes an Alias - their thief character for the game, and places a Heat Score card underneath it so the '1' is showing. Your Alias card can slide up and down to keep track of your Heat Score.
- Each player then receives one Artifact worth $2000, 5 Thief Cards, and 3 Prestige cards worth 1 Prestige each.
- The remaining Prestige, the Thief deck, and the Museum deck are placed in the center of the play area.
- One player is chosen to be the first Lead Thief. The Lead Thief calls out Phases and controls when the round begins and ends.
All Thieves add up the Prestige value in their hoard of artifacts, and take that amount from the Prestige 'bank'.
Starting with the Lead Thief, each player declares if they want to enter a secret bid to win the artifact, or draw a thief card. Any bids made are discarded after they are revealed, so players have to try and guess what other players might bid, as well as bluff other players into spending more.
The highest bidder wins and takes the artifact into their Hoard. In the case of a tie, players would enter a special Thieving Battle to decide the winner. The winning bidder also increases their Heat Score by the amount shown on the artifact. Players will have to plan their moves carefully, so that they don't reach 10 Heat, and get arrested by the Pinkertons!
In Phase 4, the Lead Thief has the option to target an opponent's Artifact to steal. The Lead Thief pays the Prestige value of the artifact and....
If the Lead Thief wins, they take 1/2 the Heat Score on the Artifact. If the opponent wins, they receive 3 bonus Prestige!

This game is in pre-production. Kickstarter images are not final. The final look, materials, and content of the game are subject to change and may differ slightly from what is presented while the Kickstarter project was active.
For Thief's Hoard shipping, we are going to be using our own pledge manager on our website to calculate and charge shipping. We're using WooCommerce, a trusted and powerful web platform installed on our own website, to import our backer data and manage your individual orders.
If we have 300 or fewer backers (our minimum to meet our goal), we will be fulfilling the orders ourselves to save you money. If we get over 300 backers, we are using PrintNinja's fulfillment partner, EFS, to fulfill the Kickstarter orders.
Backers that choose the metal coin or Master Thief pledge levels will be fulfilled by us, so we can personally pack your game and autograph it (for Master Thief level).
We have reached out to EFS to give us estimates on shipping the game. Bear in mind that these are our best estimates to date, and based on shipping average - if we can get you a better deal on shipping, we certainly will.
- US Shipping: $10 for 1 copy of Thief's Hoard
- Canada Shipping: $15 for 1 copy of Thief's Hoard
International Shipping: $18 for 1 copy of Thief's Hoard
Note on International: We don't know that we will have enough orders on this kickstarter to split our shipping to a distributor in the EU, AUS, or other countries. However, if we achieve a much higher goal than anticipated (ie 1000 backers), we are prepared to split our shipments to other distributors to save our International backers some money on shipping.
Die-struck Collectible Coin!
We will have a very limited run of collectible coins that are being produced for backers that select either the Collectible Coin level or the Master Thief backer level. These coins can be used in place of the "Lead Thief" card in the deck for added coolness!
The coins will be produced by wizardpins.com, and will be a bronze-gold color. We've submitted our art, and the order gets placed as soon as the Kickstarter ends successfully! The coin will feature our thief face on the front, and the Thief's Hoard logo on the back. The coins will ship separately, but there is no additional charge for shipping in the US (International pays shipping fees)!
Curator - Your Name on a Card!
At the Curator level, we put your name (or a name you submit, within reason and subject to approval) and put it on a Museum card! Here's what it would look like!
Our Printing Partner - Print Ninja
We've chosen Print Ninja to produce our game for us! We are excited to work with them. You can go to printninja.com and see the great reviews and quality printing products! Our game will be printed on 280gsm blue core standard cards, which is an industry standard quality for most card games.
If we can surpass all our current social stretch goals, we may be able to get even higher quality cards printed for the game!
Risks and challenges
This is our second project on Kickstarter. We learned a lot from our first game, Materia.
First, we learned that printing in the US is very expensive. We knew we wouldn't make much money on our first game, but the reality was that we spent money to finish it. We've made sure that with this project, we get just the right amount for our goal so we can cover all fees, production, and shipping/fulfillment. As always, any additional funds we get go towards our next project.
Second, we have a much better understanding of shipping costs and headaches. In fact, we now understand we want someone else to handle that part ;)
And finally, we learned that while people love handmade add-ons for the games, our busy lives don't allow for such large scale projects for custom boxes/cases. So, for this campaign, our special add-on is being produced elsewhere and we supply the design only.
With each project, we get more and more accustomed to the process, and we are excited to continue bringing games to life through the Kickstarter platform.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
