Ember Madison was an ordinary teenage girl with ordinary teenage problems. She lived a relatively average life… until that night when the fire started. Everything changed after that.
It made no sense to Ember. Was it spontaneous combustion? But then wouldn’t she be the one that burned? Why has it never happened before? What does it all mean?
Ember has none of these answers, but someone does; someone who watches Ember from afar. Someone who knows far more about the history and the lineage Ember hails from than Ember knows of herself.
The Last Ember #1 kicks off Ember’s journey from ordinary to extraordinary. Coming off the heels of issue #0 where her powers first manifest, Ember must discover why this is all happening to her and what it means for her life. What is her newfound purpose?
As seen in The Last Ember #0, this is not the first time abilities like this have manifested. In fact, it keeps happening over and over again, as it is destined to be. But something has happened and now Ember is the last of her kind… the last goddess of fire!
The Last Ember is the first and lead title of Last Ember Press’ Emberverse line. The series will delve into the mythology of Ember’s world as she learns about her past and what that means for her present and her future.
Ember will have to discover why she is the last of her kind, and what consequences that has for her life, her dreams, her aspirations. She hasn’t even figured out what college she wants to go to and now she must determine what she does with this huge responsibility thrust upon her.

In some places across the vast space of the internet I'm known as the fabled Gonzogoose. The name stuck, what can I say but... HONK!
What I'm passionate about is writing and the creative process. I started out as an artist, drawing since I was 5 or 6 years old. By the age of 13 I wanted to be a comic book artist.
I spent years drawing for hours upon hours every day. It wasn't until stepping away from comics and drawing for several years that I discovered my love for writing in college. Ever since then it's what I've devoted myself to.
The Last Ember isn't my first comic, nor is it my first published work. But it is my current passion project. Literally birthed from the flame, Ember came into being by way of a happy accident. She became the character I never knew I wanted to write, but fell in love with and had to tell her story.
Ember is so much more than just our central character, and more than just a mascot for LEP. Ember is the heart of our universe and our company, and I can't wait to share her adventures with you!
Okay, okay, I've got you covered. Check out these beautiful pages from The Last Ember #1! Though these aren't fully finished pages, throughout the campaign we will be updating them and sharing the progress with you!
Up until now, we've published all our books ourselves, but for this series, we wanted to put our best efforts toward bringing it to life.
We're looking to fund a larger offset print run this time around through KrakenPrint to sell at conventions, online and so forth.
I'm glad you asked!
In addition to the offset print costs mentioned above, the funds will also help pay our wonderful artist, Giulia to complete the rest of the issue. Giulia knocked out the pages you see above in record time, and we can't wait to show you what the rest of the book will look like!
Kickstarter and Stripe take fees off the top, and any remaining funds will go toward shipping of the books and the various rewards.

I honestly can't express enough how grateful I am for you even taking the time to check out The Last Ember #1, let alone for all your support, monetarily or otherwise.
The feedback and reviews we received for The Last Ember #0 kind of blew me away, and the fact that people keep asking for the next issue warms my heart.
If you are able to help me bring The Last Ember #1 to life, I am beyond thankful, but I'll say it anyway... THANK YOU!
Risks and challenges
While I’m not new to Kickstarter having been part of other’s campaigns as a letterer and having backed a number of projects, this is the first Kickstarter I’m launching of my own. I realize that your support and trust are integral to my campaign’s success, and I want to assure you that this project will come to fruition and find its way into your hands.
I’ve worked in the comics industry for over 15 years in various capacities, and I’m also part of the ComixLaunch course, which specializes in crowdfunding comics. Thanks to this community and my knowledge of the industry, and working with others on their campaigns, I know what’s in store for me. I also know that if unexpected issues come up I have a group to lean on for answers and assistance.
There can always be delays when dealing with printing overseas, but I always have access to someone that can let me know the status of the order over at KrakenPrint. They come highly recommended and are no strangers to Kickstarter projects.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
