The Train is Leaving the Station
There's this line that goes around Hollywood, and probably other places as well, "Everyone wants to get on a moving train." The idea behind is that no one wants to start something, but when a project has momentum, everyone loves it. Well, The Root Kit is accelerating!
Yesterday morning there were 225 backers. As of the writing of this, there are 426.
There are a couple factors. I ranted on Twitter about how bad the U.S. government is violating its citizens' privacy. That seemed to generate a bit of attention. But, as compelling as those tweets might have been, the real boost came when, boingboing.com mentioned us (Cory Doctorow himself, no less!). That was HUGE. Then, news.ycombinator.com/news mentioned us. Since then, it's been a wild ride! I went to sleep at midnight and woke up at 6am Pacific, to 53 new backers. By the time I sat down to my computer, there were over 60!
It may seem like we've got a long way to go, and that there isn't much time to get there, but you guys are making it happen! THANK YOU!
Please, keep telling people about The Root Kit. The best link to share is www.therootkit.com which will take them straight to the Kickstarter page (for now).
For a while my battle cry for this was "WE CAN DO THIS!" After the past 18 hours, I changed it to, "WE ARE DOING THIS!"
Thank you, again. You are making this happen!
P.S. To the over 200 new backers, you might find the updates section interesting. There's some fictitious interviews I did with various members of the cast in character, as well as a real interview with Larry Wall, the creator of the programming language Perl, along with some other stuff.
As always, let me know what you think.
