About this project
The Project: INVISIBLE LIGHT TAROT DECK
The Deal: I've translated my photographs into a full 78 card Tarot deck!
What makes this unique: Besides the images of course... It's not only a tarot deck, but also a box set collection of photographs. You get to actually hold photographs in your hands rather than seeing them on a computer screen. It's a more intimate way of experiencing imagery in today's technological world.
Who I am in short: I'm an artist/photographer who uses rare and expired infrared films, processing in my kitchen, using NO photoshop. I want to create something extraordinary out of the ordinary.
What you can get: By donating to the project, you can get a the INVISIBLE LIGHT TAROT DECK for yourself or as a gift. There's a lot of other rewards as well!!!
A special note: This collection of photographs brought to you in the form of a modern tarot deck contains years and years of throwing myself into the creative process. I've put all of myself into these photographs, literally as many of them are self-portraits. This is not only a tarot deck, but also a series of art that you have the chance to own and enjoy for yourself.

More about the project -
I'm Brandy Eve Allen and I'm a photographer who shoots with film. I've been shooting self-portraits and photos of people I'm close to for almost twenty years. Tarot cards have been a part of my life since I was a child when my mom passed along her original deck and books.
There are so many beautiful tarot decks available, the one I'm presenting to you offers a modern and clean style while incorporating a sense of mysticism through photography. This tarot deck consists of the full major and minor arcana translated through rare and expired infrared film photographs that I’ve shot throughout the years.
It felt instinctual to incorporate the "elements" in representing the Minor Arcana because of the connection to nature which is a major theme throughout the images. The photographs are not meant to be literal representations, but rather carry the essence of what each card symbolizes. Similar to the way the tarot cards reveal that which is hidden, infrared film is picking up light that is invisible to the human eye. This is a metaphor asking for one to tap into enlightenment through the senses and the third eye.
Drawing upon the Crowley and Rachel Pollack Books, as well as our own deep discussions about what each card signifies to us, we put together a brief description of the meaning of each card in a booklet that was thoughtfully written by my friend Sarah Harron and myself.
Much to the way we interpret tarot by feeling what it means to us, so is the experience of viewing a piece of art. This tarot deck combines an appreciation for imagery along with an emphasis on using ones intuition, accessing your own invisible light.

UPDATE FOR PRODUCTION & REWARDS - I'm doing some research to see what would be the most ideal size for the tarot deck, whether I should stick with a wider format as planned, or rather, go with the more narrow standard version. Any input is welcome in the comments section or feel free to message me. Also, all of the rewards are set for estimated delivery for February 2016, even if specified otherwise.
(If the goal is surpassed and we reach even $18,000 I can print up to 1000 copies)
Some background about my photography -
I want to show the still beauty that rests within this crazy world- the amazingly powerful, coupled with the beautifully sad. To capture the relationship that takes place within these isolated moments and it’s reflection of the delicate odyssey of self. The pitfalls and the scars are celebrated in my work as symbolism for having lived and within that life, having gone through the inevitable hero’s journey. The work embraces imperfection as the perfect beauty, which I practice through using expired and decomposing film stocks, all of which I process in the comfort of my kitchen. The work alternates between dreamy lyricism, towards stark minimal allure. I’ve engaged the feminine in all of its splendor, that space between strength and sweetness.

"Allen’s work has been exhibited throughout Italy, where she also lived and worked in her early twenties, gaining early recognition for her photographs. She lives in Los Angeles with collectors ranging throughout the US and Europe. Allen’s photographs are presently on view as part of the 2015 Venice Biennale collateral event presented by BardoLA featuring twenty artists from Los Angeles. BardoLA and the City of Los Angeles also present Brandy Eve Allen: MISSING PERSONS at the Ontario International Airport, Terminals 2 & 4, August 2015 through February 2016."
Here is an example of some of the cards along with their meanings to give you a sense of the Invisible Light Tarot Deck -
Strength – Harnessing the wild nature within. Honoring all of yourself unconditionally and compassionately. That’s where the true power comes from.
Calmness, Vulnerability, Transformation, Discovery, Unknown, Rapture
Hermit – Taking a step back and finding a quiet space. Awakening the inner voice so that it can be heard by evoking the spirit guide within.
Illumination, Seeker, Teacher, Realization, Retreat
The Sun – A return to innocence, where confusion and shadow turn into nothing and we get to be ourselves. Remember who you are and celebrate it, as we so often forget to do.
Self-realization, Unconditional love, Joy, Nature, Energy
Ace of Water (Cups) – Life can be orgasmic! When we are receptive to love, it becomes a gift, not something we have to force or chase after. This card is about being open, the courage to feel, especially after you’ve been hurt.
Release, Primal, Manna, All-Love, Receive
Nine of Earth (Pentacles) – The work is done, the riches have been earned. With self-development we learn to channel our energy to shift the outcomes which can reward us in ways we never expected.
Being open, Awareness, Abundance, To Realize, Reward
Ten of Air (Swords) – This is death to the ego. There is a light in the distance, it doesn’t have to be as bad as it seems. Allow for hope, there’s no point in fighting, it’s futile. You are shedding an old skin that no longer serves you. It’s the end of a cycle and the promise of a new beginning.
Abandonment, Leaving, Released, Rebirth, Change
Two of Fire (Wands) – This is a card of conquest that ignites the fire within and charges forward- raw will take over. Wielding this energy can be productive just as much as it can be destructive. Operating from just the impulse of desire creates riches without the understanding of why. What does success truly mean?
Roar, Hustle, Fearless, Daring, Vicious

“Art sits on walls, and there's something about art living in someone’s hands, there’s something about it being used to share and passed around. It’s purpose almost being redefined through doing what art is really supposed to do, which is to reveal something about who we are and where we are, where we’re coming from and where we’re going, and that’s exactly what a tarot card deck does.”
Risks and challenges
I've allowed room for extra printing costs that may arise due to added production methods. I have an amazing printer who produces works for museums and galleries, I trust that any issues will be limited.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
