About this project
Music has been used to tell stories for billions of years, probably. Countless musicians have found that one of the best ways to tell stories is with words. Others, like us, have taken the path less traveled: using music WITHOUT words to tell stories.
What? How is that possible?
We don't know. But we need your help to figure it out.
We're an instrumental post-rock band originating in the suburbs of Chicago. We've played together for about five years now, and we're ready to make our first studio album. A couple years ago we self-recorded an EP, which you can listen to here: http://theseguystheseguys.bandcamp.com
That was a great experience, but we're hoping to take this project to the next level. That means studio time. And that means money.
What does this have to do with telling stories? I'm glad I imagined you asking that question.
Our latest project is called The Cloud Factory. It's a suite of five songs that are capable of functioning independently, but work best as one cohesive whole. When we started writing it, we wanted to use instrumental music to tell a sort of story. We had grand plans: maybe we'd get someone to animate this story or something, a thirty-minute in-depth examination of life and love and stuff like that.
When we sat down to write the story, though, it occurred to us that each member of the band had very different ideas about what the story WAS. And that's when we realized that, by its very nature, this suite could tell any number of different stories. Some heard it as a love story. Some heard it as a tragedy. The possibilities were limitless, and dependent solely upon what the individual brought to the table.
So what we're doing is this: we're creating a blank canvas of music for you, the listener, to create the kind of story you want. And if you're not interested in making up stories? We still have some pretty awesome songs for you to listen to.
We need about $2,000 for the actual studio process. We hope to be able to cover the production of the CDs post-recording ourselves, but any additional money we can raise will go a long way towards getting these albums into people's hands soon. Our hope is to have everything recorded before the end of the year, with the actual release falling in the first quarter of 2013.
Thanks in advance for helping us make this happen. You guys are the best.
