We're creating the first year of the Goodnewspaper— four issues that celebrate good news and provide tangible action steps on becoming good news.
2016 was deemed by many to be one of the worst years in a very long time.
2017 isn't off to the best start either.
We’ve experienced collective division, terrorism, fear, manipulation, and injustices. We’ve been left asking questions like, “Are we more divided than we thought? Is it even possible to make the world a better place? Is the world getting worse?”
There are no easy answers to these questions but one thing is for sure: we need hope, maybe now more than ever. We need something that reminds that there is still good in the world, and we can be part of it. We need something like the Goodnewspaper.
The Goodnewspaper is a reminder that there’s good news in the world to be hopeful about, a map for how to move from feeling helpless to taking action, and a tool for those confused on how to get involved in the march against division, terrorism, fear and injustice.
The Goodnewspaper helps you celebrate good news by sharing hopeful stories you might not know about, and helps you become good news by providing tangible action steps on how to make a difference in the world in big and small ways. The stories and tools inside will leave you feeling less overwhelmed, and more capable of being a part of the good in the world.
The Goodnewspaper's ethos can be easily summed up by a beautiful quote from Mr. Rogers:
We believe that there are helpers even in the most dire of situations.
We believe that the world is filled with good news — we just have to know where to look.
By celebrating the good being done in the world, we deliver a message of hope and change it takes to grow that good. When we do this, we're invited to be a part of the good in the world ourselves.
That's what The Goodnewspaper is all about.
We seek good news. We celebrate good news. And we become good news.
Each issue will feature:
- Good news stories from all over the world.
- Profiles of inspiring people who are making a difference.
- Simple action steps you can take to be a part of the good in the world.
The Goodnewspaper will also feature cultural recommendations of the most beautiful, hopeful, and thoughtful pieces of media (films, books, music, and podcasts), analyses of hopeful trends that show the ways the world is becoming a better place, and highlights of ethical companies and brands you can feel good supporting.
You won’t feel overwhelmed by the brokenness of the world while you read the Goodnewspaper. You’ll feel refreshed, encouraged, and ready to take on the world.
We need your financial support through Kickstarter so that we’ll be able to:
- Actually print and ship something real. (That’s the really expensive part.)
- Hire a talented and diverse team of writers and designers to take this to the next level.
- Tell compelling, important, and nuanced stories of the good in the world in a time when it feels like we need it most.

Branden is the creator of the Goodnewsletter and Sounds Good. The Goodnewsletter is a free weekly email newsletter that shares five hopeful news stories from around the world. (Join for free!) Designing a physical product and writing content are daunting tasks. Especially at such a great scale. But fortunately Branden has years of experience writing and sharing hopeful stories of good in the world and he’s collaborating with people with even more experience. Our art director has spent years in the editorial world and has designed for artists like Joy Williams, Leagues, and Ben Rector. Our managing editor has been published by Washington Post, the Week, Relevant Magazine, and Huffington Post.
One of the most difficult aspects of any Kickstarter campaign is shipping. We've done countless estimates for the Goodnewspaper and we feel confident that we understand the price structure of each shipment. Knowing this allows us to make sure we don't go into the red while working hard to provide a beautiful and hopeful final product.
Of course it's worth mentioning that the quality of the newspaper (both in terms of aesthetics and content) is of utmost priority to our team. We aim to deliver a high-quality product that makes a meaningful difference in your life. The integrity of the newspaper will always take priority over the shipping schedule if the choice between speed and quality is necessary.
