Now testing replacement IR blasters; delivered 30 kits over Christmas

Posted by Brad Knox (Creator)

Hi, everyone. Quick update here.

We shipped a kit each to approximately 30 of our backers over Christmas. We've heard both positive and helpful feedback that will be incorporated into the version of the app and play experience that all of the rest of you will receive (and those 30 will get an update to their app).

Also, we've ordered 50 IR blasters from a supplier. If a random sampling of them test well, we'll order the remaining 400 or so and finally get the remainder of these robot kits to you. We're optimistic that we'll ship by the end of February, if not sooner.

Again, thanks for giving us the time to fulfill our Kickstarter's vision and get these little critters out to you.

Thanks for continuing your work on this. Looking forward to seeing these in action, flummoxed or not. OK I had to look that one up

Thanks, Edward. It's great to hear you like what we sent you! I hear you about the bots getting confused. On one hand, we want them to be imperfect in an organic way; on the other, we don't want them to be lost TOO often. Based on your feedback and that of one other backer (Karl E.), we'll probably increase the bots' speed to getting the blue just a little bit for the version of the app that will go out to everyone.

Brent, I understand that it's frustrating—and perhaps infuriating—to purchase something and have it running 4 to 5 months late on an originally promised 7-month wait. In buying parts for the kit, we've probably spent more already than we raised (a common Kickstarter outcome that comes from underestimating the cost of making a product), so we are much more equipped to provide the Bots Alive kits than refunds. Thanks for sticking with us this far, and I hope we'll win you back when you receive your order and get to play with the robots.

On the flip side, I can say that the kit I received is worth every penny. Quality is great. Looking forward to better AI in the program. The spiders get flummoxed easily. When playing with them, you kind of feel sorry for them! LOL! My son is getting a kick out of the moods that are displayed. I have a Pixel XL and I can tell the program is working hard. The phone gets pretty warm. (nothing alarming)

I’m so over this project. Just refund what you can and be done.
