A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
A Professional Lens Without Glass: Introducing Pinhole Pro for DSLR and SLR Cameras
Thingyfy Pinhole Pro is an innovative update to DSLR pinhole photography. Pinhole photography has long held a vintage and DIY aesthetic, discounted by many perhaps because of the breakthroughs in optics since its creation. But there is still room for this simple, elegant implementation in contemporary photography. The pinhole lens embodies a foundational concept in photography- the camera obscura. The images it produces are distinct, and unique in nature. With so many options on the market, as well as the ability for anyone to build their own, why do we not see more of this photography in practice?
Pinhole Photography and Cinematography in the Digital Age
What’s missing is an innovation in technology to bring the user experience of modern digital cameras to this centuries old technique. Thingyfy Pinhole Pro makes a simple, small change- multiple pinholes, but that change allows for real-time experimentation and manipulation that just doesn't exist in any other model. The unique properties of pinhole photography need to be exposed and played with. New uses discovered. With the products currently available on the market, all one can do is demo the principal at hand.
The aim for the Pinhole Pro is to make an aggressive attempt at re-introducing the viability and opportunity this lens affords to the professional and hobbyist photographers.
Here's a short experimental film shot entirely with the Thingyfy Pinhole Pro on a Nikon D750.
What Can Thingyfy Pinhole Pro Offer?
With Thingyfy Pinhole Pro photographers are able to:
Learn about camera obscura, photography fundamentals, light travel
Shoot digital or analogue still photos. get sharp, long exposures using the smallest pinholes being offered in the market
Shoot video. With medium to high ISO shoot at 30 or 60 FPS using the selection of large video pinholes
Shoot TimeLapse - authentic, long exposure time-lapse with durational motion blur
How is Pinhole Pro Different from other Pinhole Lens?
Comparing the options of Pinhole Pro and what it offers the photographer, along with the ease of use switching between apertures - this lens brings a precision and quality that no other product currently offers. Combined with the aesthetic appeal of machined all metal components and tactile moving parts, this modern update brings the treasured aesthetic of pinhole photography into the contemporary landscape of new media.
We want to position Pinhole Pro at the intersection of two existing products: the Zero Optik 35mm Pinhole (Cost around $1500 USD with minimal functionality) and the Skink Pancake Pinhole (Lower end entry level lens cost around $50 USD). There's currently no other similar lens in the market that can allow users to switch between different apertures and sharpness in a single pinhole lens.

Why Can We Make a High-End Lens with Low Cost?
Thingyfy is a groundbreaking Maker 2.0 company that owns industrial robotics and CNC facilities. So we are able to prototype and produce high precision products at gaming changing speed, without the need of complicated and expensive tooling and moulding. This alone saves us hundreds of thousands of dollars in production cost.
Thingyfy Pinhole Pro is entirely built with aviation grade aluminium. This material ensures precision and durability, and light weight at the same time. We want to offer a precision designed lens with tactile moving parts - affording the feeling of mechanical complexity that is missing from fixed pinhole lenses. The added value in our design comes from engineering its accessible nature to meet the needs of the situation. Precision, materiality, weight and friction are all factors we can use to encourage this perception in our users. We also want to provide a kind of no-nonsense, complete solution for a DLSR pinhole lens. This lens will expose the user to core elements of photography and allow them to play. From seeing the effect of changing the aperture in real time to freelensing with hand-held optics. It's a great way to learn fundamentals, which doubles as a viable, high-resolution lens option for experienced photographers.

Where Are We at Right Now?
We have already completed the design and production prototypes of the Pinhole Pro for both Canon EOS-EF mount and Nikon F Mount. All testing is complete and we are ready to start the first batch of manufacturing.
Here are some actual product shots of the Pinhole Pro:
Why Do We Need Your Backing?
While Thingyfy provides state-of-the-art manufacturing services, we are actively incubating innovative ideas and designs. Pinhole Pro is one of the many great ideas that came from our internal innovation teams, that run each project as a start-up company and need your help as Kickstarter to ensure their dreams can come true and their ideas can become successful products that will benefit pinhole photography lovers around the world.
Where Will the Fund Be Used?
We will be using the crowdfunded money to produce the first batch of products for all major DSLR and SLR camera models on the market, including Canon, Nikon, Minolta and SONY etc.
We will also be using this fund to do further research and design and make this lens available for Micro 4/3 photographers.
What About Micro 3/4 (MFT), Sony E, Fuji X, Pentax K and other smaller cameras?
Currently, we have made Pinhole Pro available for all DSLR and SLR camera mounts. Due to the high demand of our backers, we are happy to announce that Pinhole Pro now also support MFT, Sony E, Fuji X. For all other camera mounts, you could use a lens mount adaptor/converter (readily available on Amazon) to convert one of the above lens mount to your specifically lens mount. (Please note, we have not done thorough testing of how the Pinhole Pro would work with a lens adaptor, but optically it should work just fine, except slightly increasing the focal lengths.)
What's the Retail Price of Pinhole Pro?
The future retail price of Pinhole Pro is set to be $179 USD. But we are offering the first batch of Pinhole Pro to Kickstarter at only $69 CAD (About $50 USD).
