Hello. This is Boxscoop.
The litter box is a real struggle, for all of us. This system will change that but before we explain the intricacies, we would like to tell you how it came to be. From a young age I have been passionate on design, efficiency and simplicity. When I grew up I became an Engineer. Michelle and I are both passionate on fairness and respect for all creatures. The disconnect between integrating the litter box into the household and having it ethical for our cats drove us crazy.
From the start of 2017 through to Oct. 2018 we stood by helplessly watching my sister face an aggressive breast cancer; I coped by spending copious amounts of time fixated on designing a better litter box. We approached it from a completely different angle demanding the utmost efficiency with zero compromise. The vision was to create the perfect synergy between human AND cat needs. I hope you share our vision and help us bring Boxscoop 2.0 to life :-)

First, we need to meow this out.
Boxscoop has modern aesthetics and because your eyes cannot catch the corners (there are none) it appears smaller than it is. It's an illusion... it's not meant for 25 lb cats but it is bigger than a standard litter box and far more ergonomic to the way cats move.
A Zero Compromise Solution.
Boxscoop is chore free to maintain, stops litter tracking, raises next to zero dust, and is designed from cat behavior studies for cat comfort... plus, it's modern and looks nothing like a litter box.
What they say about our first model.
All aboard... It's blast off time.
We released our first model in July and the feedback was incredible. We recorded every detail and consistently analyzed for improvements. Success to us is making the most number of lives better. We brought the first model to market ourselves; we can do infinitely better together with you. This is Boxscoop 2.0:
Cats and boxes... boxes bring happiness.
A cats favorite thing—the cardboard box. Research done at Utrecht University recorded reduced stress levels and increased social interaction from cats in boxes. The open top gives them natural security (cats protect themselves upwards) and the walls protect them from 'things' sneaking up below their visibility line. Like a snake... or even a cucumber.
Front entrance enclosed litter boxes can be very stressful to all but the calmest of cats. When a cat's inside doing there business they are in a position of vulnerability. They can hear the noises around them but can't visualize what's happening. Plus, the rectangular walls are restrictive to their natural movement. To feel comfortable doing their business cats should be able to freely turn and pick their spot.
Inside Boxscoop cats can freely turn and the open top gives them visibility to everything around them. They feel safe, secure and always have the option to pounce out if something makes them uneasy.
Like "ducks to water" - Purrwood forest cat sanctuary.
80% of cats take to Boxscoop like "ducks to water" the other 20% require more time. The design works both with and without the cover; this way the skeptic cats can adjust at their own pace.
Purrwood forest uses them both ways throughout their no kill sanctuary.
Nobody puts baby in the corner.
Here is our size guide and yes some cats bigger than this are currently using Boxscoop happily, and 2.0 is 20% bigger inside, but still... this is what, in our experience is most appropriate.
*For a little extra space, the scoop can also be stored outside.
The opening is bigger than almost any other litter box...
Control your furry footprint.
Boxscoop is designed to work with nearly any clumping litter. It can operate with 50% less litter (because sticking is no problem) or it can be filled with more litter than a standard litter box. Either way, the litter will stay very fresh as the clumps stay intact. Boxscoop is 30-70% more litter efficient that a standard box, depending how much litter you decide to use.
It's efficient use of litter saves you money while also being green for the planet... and Boxscoop components are made from 100% recyclable materials— including the packaging.
In the main video we demonstrated Boxscoop with clay, corn, and grass litters; here is a demonstration with walnut litter.
*non-clumping litters like pretty litter and crystals also work in Boxscoop.
It's this easy.
Could you loosen a bolt with just a socket and your fingers? likely not! You need the leverage of a ratchet (driver). Think of the grates on Boxscoop as the socket and the handles and pivot points as the driver. It's scooping on a whole different level. The scoop and container are precision manufactured to compliment each other and with a little leverage and a quarter rotation all the litter is effortlessly cleaned.
Neve, James niece, is 7 in this video and wanted to try, which was pretty brave considering she also had 7 stitches in her left thumb from a pumpkin carving accident. Courageous like her mom and successful on her first attempt :-)
A minimalist design.
When dealing with pee and poo, the fewer components and seams the better. The container, scoop and cover are all precision made. Ridges and contours are elegantly carved into the surface to allow it to slice through the litter like this. The design looks simple because we over-engineered for simplicity. Creating this sized container with precision in one piece requires a machine capable of pressing the equivalent weight of 330 cars.
The cover on 2.0 is designed to securely fit without any clips, because who wants to fumble with clips every time they go to clean the litter box!?! It's actually so secure it's dog proof and the inner seam forms a seal for those quirky cats that stand to pee.
It's a precise design that uses overlap, interference, and interlocking angles so the cover goes on and off easily while also being incredibly secure.
Say goodbye smelliness. Ciao. Adios. See ya later!
The beauty of having no corners or seams— fresh is oh so EASY to maintain.
Cats have an amazing sense of smell and pride of cleanliness. We are against trapping odors when they can so easily be eliminated and we are also against using chemicals to cover them up... which your cats then have to lick from their paws. Sanitizing the whole litter box has never been so easy and rewarding.
For an extra deep clean you can let the scoop and container sit in a vinegar/water solution.
A litter box juxtaposing as furniture.
Litter box furniture is one way to conceal the litter box but it also makes cleaning more tedious and it's unnatural for your cats. Why not make the litter box a piece of furniture? Boxscoop looks nothing like a normal litter box while being more cat-centric.
It's time to get excited :-)
You can have your very own Boxscoop 2.0! You just have to help us create it for you. Pre-order yours now so we can get to work!
*Prices above are listed in USD. In the reward section they are shown in CAD.
**The super early bird special is priced at our breakeven cost; it is only available in limited quantity for the first 36 hours or less. After this the prices must start to climb.
A second color is now unlocked! At the end of the campaign we'll send out a survey to pick the most popular second color choice. You'll be able to select either matte white or the new color (TBD)... Here is 2.0 rendered in a modern matte green-gray, blue-gray, and charcoal black:
This add-on ramp (for arthritic and disabled cats) is something we feel is important. Once we reach CA$ 350K we can comfortably open a new mold for the ramp, which 2.0 is designed to seamlessly accept. It's our mission to make the litter box clean and comfortable for all cats. It's a combination of backwards steps and a ramp-- ridges are positioned so arthritic cats can use their front paws the same way a human may use a handrail. Steps and ramps are great for humans but cats are different and need a reversed combination.
*All Kickstarter backers will receive family pricing on the ramp add-on once available.
Timeline... the countdown to happy scooping begins.
Hey, this all just kinda happened.
Boxscoop began with Arthur, a Bengal that started her life being mistaken for a boy. Arthur loved to dig, she was a cat after all!! but she hated being enclosed; Michelle disliked the dinosaur litter box in our closet and I felt the design efficiencies of litter boxes were absurd.
On Feb. 21, 2017 I wrote this:
In July we released the original Boxscoop. It received incredible feedback but it also could be far improved. It was our first attempt and we funded it ourselves. It was an exciting time we felt we were making a real difference! Then on October 6th, while running around chasing a feather Arthur collapsed. She was only 2.5 years old and completely had our hearts... She had a genetic heart condition called HCM and just like that little Arthur was gone... and then 15 hours later my sister took her last breaths as well.
The easy thing to do would be quit Boxscoop... but this was inspired by Arthur, and encouraged by Kristy. They planted the seed and we are beyond inspired to take Boxscoop to the next level. So here we are Kickstarter, ready and with your help we will produce a litter box that perfectly bridges the gap between human and cat life.

Risks and challenges
We launched our first version of Boxscoop in July 2018, and since then have been working day and night recording feedback and analyzing for opportunities to improve. Not only the product, but manufacturing methods, distribution and logistics, and streamlining the whole process. Boxscoop 2.0 is a completely new and redesigned version and requires all new (and very expensive) molds; with the experience we’ve gained we are confident we can produce it better than ever!
Everything is set and as soon as we have the funding in place our molds will start being produced. The relationships we have made over the last 20 months of working on this are strong and we are confident we will execute production within our timeline and provide a very high quality product.
That said, delays in manufacturing are always a small possibility and if we ever have the choice between a slight delay or a quality issue we will chose the delay every time. What we promise is to communicate fully and transparently throughout the process and keep you updated and informed! There is no stopping; we will work day and night to make Boxscoop 2.0 everything it should be and everything current litter solutions out there are just not.
We have set our Kickstarter pledges just above our costs, and the first tiers are actually at our costs. We are not looking to make a profit at this point, we honestly just want to launch the best d*mn litter box ever...
