Home security is getting smarter. It’s becoming more interconnected, convenient and cheaper. It’s harnessing the power of smart phones to allow you to remotely monitor and control your smart system, from anywhere in the world.
People want an easy ordering process, from transparent pricing to customising the alarm to fit the home. Setup should be straightforward - whether you’re doing it yourself or using a professional installer - and the system should do what it promises.
All these things are expected, but hard to find. That’s why we created Boundary™.
With Boundary you can protect your home with no onerous contract. If you're unsure what package to choose, you can use our estimator tool to design an alarm system for your home.
The Central Hub is the heart of your Boundary alarm. It connects to all sensors in the home and allows you to set and unset the alarm.
The Boundary motion sensor is pet-safe, built to the highest standard featuring pulse-counting technology to guard effectively day and night. With always-on motion detection the motion sensor can be used for home automation routines for example automatically powering down smart lighting and heating when a room is not in use.
With a door/window sensor, any unauthorised entry will immediately set off the alarm. Depending on which plan you are on this will either notify you via a push notification, trigger our dialler to contact family and neighbours or notify the alarm receiving centre. You can view the status of a window or door from your app at any time, and these can also be used with our smart home integrations to trigger events. All sensors are tamperproof, giving you complete peace of mind.
Smart home integration with voice assistants including Amazon Alexa and Google Home
Geofencing technology reminds you to set the alarm when you leave the house*
The Boundary Alarm kit consists of the Central Hub, its sensors and smart key tags. You can install the Boundary Alarm yourself or use one of Boundary’s professional installers.
An optional outdoor siren that produces a very loud (> 98db) sound to attract attention should the alarm be triggered. The siren features LED lighting to provide an effective deterrent day and night.
Entirely wireless, the outdoor siren runs on long-life batteries and a lockable cover means changing batteries is a breeze.
Includes screws and a spirit level to help install it, then syncs with your Central Hub using Z-wave 700.
- Easy arming and disarming with Boundary key tags
- Real-time alerts in the Boundary app as your family members arrive home safely. Plus you can deactivate any false alarms.
- Push notifications sent to your phone in real time to keep you updated of any unusual activity at home*
- Night mode, where only the door / window sensors are armed, allowing the family to move around the home.
* Available with a monthly subscription
Boundary will integrate with devices from the following Smart Home brands*
*Apple HomeKit integration will be come shortly after delivery of the Boundary Alarms. It will be updated remotely.
- Set your Philips Hue to flash red when the alarm is triggered.
- When you're on holiday, the Boundary alarm can simulate you being home by randomly turning lights on and off in different rooms at night time.
- When you arrive home, Boundary motion sensors can detect you entering and turn on lights to welcome you. It can also detect you moving from room-to-room and turn on/off lights.
Why get certified to British & European Standards?
From our early market research conducted with a set of eligible customers, it became apparent that having a police response to an activated alarm was a must. The standards (BS EN50131 & associated standards) have been created so that alarm systems are robust and extremely resilient. This ensures that systems will function in even the most challenging situations, whilst minimising false alarms which are ahuge drain on police resources in the UK.
If we were to list the entire suite of tests that the alarm will be subjected to is so long that it would turn this page into a thesis, however some tests include;
- Reliability of power supply
- Physical robustness
- Wireless reliability
- Battery backup performance
- Sensor reliability & performance
- Audible alarm levels
- And many, many more
Boundary is spending £250,000 on external testing alone to gain Grade 2 certification. The prototype product will be tested on a 'pre-compliance' programme to ensure the product does pass final certification.
Most insurance will check for a professionally-installed, grade II monitored alarm - rather than approving specific brands.
CHOOSE YOUR PROTECTION LEVEL
Choose the plan that works for you. With no long term contracts, cancellation fees or hidden costs.
*additional sensors cost extra.
Professional Installation is required with the Pro package. This is to reduce false alarms and prevent unnecessary police callouts. With each install, engineers have to evaluate where best to place sensors to catch burglars but also ensure they aren’t too easily activated.
WHICH PLEDGE TO CHOOSE
After our campaign closes we’ll send you an email to check if you would like to select a monthly plan. We’ll add this to your order behind the scenes at Boundary HQ so that when your system arrives, your alarm is ready to plug in and protect your home. Your subscription will not start until you activate your hardware, and can be changed at any time before, or after delivery.
Here's a table comparing Boundary's features with some of our competitors. We'd encourage you to also compare prices yourself, to help Boundary stand out further!
The Boundary system has been in development since June 2018. Partnering with product design house i4, we produced our first concept designs in October 2018.
In May 2019 we produced our first working prototypes of the Boundary Central Hub, the phone app and the door window sensor. Watch the demonstration video
Our prototype is now finalised. In August, we plan to move from development to beta-testing. At the end of September we'll start testing and iterating the software built by our in-house developers.
We have appointed a contract manufacturer to build Boundary systems, and also appointed Intertek, a globally recognised certifications body to certify the product.
We have appointed NCC group to review our hardware and software security, and we are full corporate members of the IoT Security Foundation.
With this timeline in mind, we expect to start delivering both EARLY BIRD and KICKSTARTER orders in March 2020.
Our Founders, Robin Knox and Paul Walton, have been building and investing in startups for years. They most recently co-founded IntelligentPOS®, a cloud-based point of sale system which was sold to iZettle in 2016. Both have been focusing on building startups in their native Scotland through Seed Haus, a pre-seed investment incubator, as well as private angel investments.
The idea for Boundary emerged when our co-founder, Robin, was visiting the United States on his honeymoon. He realised that if he was burgled there was nothing he could do except watch events unfold on his smart camera. The alarm he had didn’t have a good user experience at all either.
On returning to Scotland Robin looked around the market for a reasonably priced self-install security system but couldn’t find one. This is what led him to explore how technology could transform the sector. Robin and co-founder Paul set out to build something better looking, easier to use, with better features and for less money. Boundary was born!
Since Boundary was started in 2018 we’ve progressed FAST, producing the first prototype in May 2019.

Whilst we are offering this product in Europe, and it will meet the European standards for monitored alarm systems, our monitored and cellular packages will only be available in the UK at launch . The power supply for the hub may come with a UK plug, however the hub has a USB-C socket, meaning that suitable a USB-C power supply can be used in place.
Risks and challenges
We understand, there is a risk with backing a project that isn’t yet complete, but Boundary is in a strong position to mitigate the risks. We're founded by two entrepreneurs who have experience building successful tech companies and have personally invested a total of £1 million into the company to date. We have a talented team of developers and product designers who have years of experience working for big names like Bosch, Flymo, Honeywell and Ericsson. We're in the process of raising £2 million in funding and we're confident of hitting the target.
We’re also confident that our alarm system is going to be a success. It will deliver on functionality, style and usability, helping it to become one of the UK’s top home security options.
We will keep you informed throughout the campaign and we can’t wait to hear your feedback.
