We Made It:
Looks like we're making vinyl. Get psyched everyone.
It's Cyber Monday so why don't we announce some new formats? BTO is pleased to announce we will be printing "Termination Without Prejudice" on Edison Cylinder and cassette. If you wish to add either to your purchase, feel free to change your pledge. Otherwise, start clicking.
We're pleased to announced that renowned artist Brian Dewan will be doing the cover for "Termination Without Prejudice." No doubt you know Brian's work as you've likely already got copies of They Might Be Giant's "Lincoln" and Neutral Milk Hotel's "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea." Yeah, the guy behind those album covers. It's a match made in heaven.
Now back to the original pitch:
Everything old is new again.
The Boston Typewriter Orchestra has been delighting audiences and warping minds since 2005. We've shared the stage with loads of people from Amanda Palmer to NPR's Martha Barnette. We've played type-ins, noise festivals, corporate events, even at the Upright Citizen's Bridgade Theatre. Radio loves us too, stations like The BBC, NPR, and WFMU. Television? You bet: The Today Show, and America's Got Talent. We scored a Google Doodle; and made bumpers for the Beyond Yacht Rock podcast. We're even featured in the new documentary "California Typewriter."
One thing is missing in our résumé, though, and that's some vinyl. And since our new EP, "Termination Without Prejudice," is ready to go, why not do it today?
Spin the black circle.
Vinyl is a many-splendored thing. It really and truly does sound better than other audio formats. Way better than the Edison cylinder and MiniDisc to name two. The jacket allows for a massive canvas, not just for the artist doing the artwork but for you to, uh, paint on it yourself if you wish. And you can stuff it in your bicycle spokes to make it sound like a motorcycle. The list is neverending.
It's time to put the awesome sound of the Boston Typewriter Orchestra on vinyl. Have we mentioned we've got a new EP ready to go? We have? Sorry, we're repeating ourselves. Anyway, if you haven't heard us before, here's one of our classics. This one's called "My Sister's Sheets."
We also have some vocal numbers, too, like "The Revolution Will Be Typewritten."
The new EP is gonna be a banger. Let's give it a nice warm vinyl home.
You want to know what's going to be on the new EP? All right then.
First there's "Harold," which features Alex Holman on lead vocals and lead roller bar. Originally an attempt at dubstep (no, really), it's like the strangest talking to from the boss that you've ever had.
Then there's "Angry Factory." It's angry. It sounds like a factory. We think it would give Ministry a run for it's money.
"Floating Holiday" is up next, and it's a lively number built around a calypso beat. When we wrote this one half of the band thought we were channeling Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon," and the other other half felt it was more of a Rush's "YYZ" vibe.
And finally, "Break Time" rounds out the set. It's a duet by Jay O'Grady and Jeff Breeze. You might recognize Jeff's voice on Big Star's "Complete Columbia" album. And Jay, in some ways, is the BTO's lead singer. Here's an oldie with O'Grady on the mic:

Risks and challenges
The Boston Typewriter Orchestra is made of musical veterans with over 150 years combined experience in the field. Basically, we know our stuff. And unlike all these upstarts whose technology is tethered to a massive digital network, we're working on machines that are older than your parents and we're trying to make vinyl that could be played on that old crank Victrola gathering dust in your grandparents attic.
