About this project
***THANKS TO THE BACKERS WHO HELPED US REACH OUR GOAL!!!*** We passed the $22,000 mark and we are excited that the Film Born to Lead is hitting a cultural nerve with sports fans.
Why go beyond our goal? To improve the film, $22,000 was the budget we needed for post production. Every dollar from here makes it BETTER!
What will we do with the additional funds?
- Make the film even better
- Add 3 more weeks of editing and fine tuning
- More graphics and more music
This film is much more than a film about a football player, a high school football team, or a major university team.
This story transcends sports and is a reflection of what we should all strive for in life.
This film is a universal story. Check out site http://www.salaunese.com/
Sal's story touched not only a community, a city, and a state but had an impact all the way to the White House where President Reagan called Sal to wish him well.
Sal's story definitely captures the triumph of the human spirit in every way. Please click on the YouTube trailer below to get to know his story a little better:
Through Sal's spirit, and the leadership of new quarterback Darian Hagan (Sal’s protégé), the team went on to carry out Sal's wishes and goal of going to the National Championship.
Many people who were influenced by Sal's leadership went on to achieve great things in life because of Sal's inspiration.
T.C. McCartney, Sal’s son, has gone on to follow his father’s footsteps as a quarterback, with his father’s number ‘8’ at LSU, and is currently an assistant coach with Darian Hagan at Colorado.
Why the documentary? The actual people in Sal's story were so compelling that we couldn't let that opportunity go. We have set out to leave no stone unturned in our search for archival footage.
We scoured basements, went door to door, conducted dozens of filmed interviews and filtered through various sources of news footage, archival footage and video footage across the United States to implement and integrate in to the film.
To this end, we have acquired incredible footage that consists of 8MM film footage, film recordings, vintage photos, clippings, letters and never seen before interviews with Sal himself.
Are leaders born or are they made? In Sal's case, he was BORN to lead. Sal Aunese showed advanced signs of leadership as early as the ages of nine and ten years old. When Sal was doing pushups and sit-ups, others were eating pop-tarts. Thus, Sal was Born To Lead, not made to lead according to the old adage. He carried on these leadership qualities his entire life, and many people looked up to Sal for those traits.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
With your help, we will get the film completed to its final version.
Livin' Large has already invested $500k into the production of this film, to achieve our goal of finishing the film, we are raising funds through Kickstarter. With your help, we will be able to combine archival images, audio, CGI and editing in to the most compelling, exciting, and entertaining story. Since technology has changed so drastically in the past twenty-five years, it became extremely expensive to transfer all of the archival footage to honor the integrity of the film.
We have constantly sought to produce the film in the most economical way possible, and many professionals have made incredible contributions of both their time and capital. The filming, editorial needs, and special effects (VFX) are extremely expensive and this should come as no surprise for a great sports documentary film. Your pledge will help us with the above needs.
Also, the Kickstarter campaign will allow us to obtain the necessary rights to certain footage so that we can include it in to the film. This Kickstarter campaign will allow us to achieve our final goal of completing this film.

Risks and challenges
To get to where we are in Sal's story, it has taken us more than four years. To be able to tell the entire story, has taken nearly twenty-five years, as many elements to the story were still unfolding as the years went on. With your pledge in this Kickstarter campaign, we will be able to complete the film in a way that will ensure that we reach our final goal of delivering an exceptional story to the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Because we needed more time and decided to simply utilize the maximum project length, 60 days, so that backers can have ample time to join our mission !!
