Adventuring does not end when you have children, it is only the beginning.
Hi, I'm Annika Mang, a mama, adventurer, and creator. I created the Born to be Adventurous platform in 2015 to inspire and empower families to get outside and adventure. One way I have wanted to empower families was to provide them with resources to help them adventure. Adventuring is so much easier with kids when you have a little bit of guidance. One project I started three years ago is finally here. Three years ago I started gathering hikes and am ready to announce that I am creating a...
Hiking Guide for Families with hikes near Canmore, Banff, Kananaskis, Bragg Creek, and Calgary
I already have gathered over 40 hikes that will be included in the book along with tips and tricks to help your family hike together. I am also planning to put every single hike on the BorntobeAdventurous.com website because I really do believe that everyone should have access to the trail information regardless of economic status.
All of the hikes are graded specifically for kids. For example: a hike rated challenging in the Hiking Guide for Families is rated as easy in some of the general hiking books. Other features include; insider tips, stroller friendly options and even a trail rider rating for those family members with a disability.
Each hike will have a mini intro at the beginning to get you excited about the hike followed by the general hike information. There will be details on how to get to the hike and where the trailhead is located followed by a trail description.
For those days when you need something more, each hike will have a small section on nearby attractions. That way, if you want to stop somewhere on the way to the hike or on the way back, you have options. At the end of each hike, there will be a general trail map to give you an idea of the trail you are exploring.
To motivate kids to hike and to keep track of their first 10 trails, I have created a 10 Hike Challenge sheet for your kids to complete that comes with an animal sticker sheet. Sometimes it's nice to give kids a little extra motivation to hit the trails.
This sheet is also perfect for the adventure kid's baby book. I know that when ours is completed, I will be putting it in both of our daughter's baby book so that we can remember some of the trails we completed while they were little.

As a trained physical education teacher, it has always been so important to me to encourage kids to get outside. Unfortunately, according to Statistics Canada, only 40% of children and 16% of adults are meeting the physical activity recommendations. Research has also shown that nature can significantly improve overall physical and mental health.
This hiking book and challenge combo will help encourage the whole family to get together and hit the trails. By purchasing the book and or supporting one of the rewards, you will also help to put the hikes on the website so that families can access the information for FREE if they are unable to afford the book. Every family deserves access to this information.
I am so positive that this project will raise over $10,000 that I am already thinking about my stretch goals. What is a stretch goal?
Basically, THE MORE I RAISE THE MORE YOU GET
My minimum goal is to raise $10,000 but my stretch goal is to raise over $25,000. Once I hit my goal of $10,000, additional rewards start rolling in. Then at $15,000 additional goodies start rolling in.
Everyone who pledges $25 or more will receive item(s) in ADDITION to the rewards they are already getting.
I will notify you of any stretch goal updates that are introduced once I reach the $10,000 mark.

Social Media is such a power tool. It would mean the world to me if you could share this Kickstarter on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. If you have a public account and share the project on Instagram, then make sure to tag me so that I can re-share on the @BorntobeAdventurous Instagram stories!
First, thank you to my husband Cameron Mang who is literally the biggest support. Thank you to Etta and Julia Mang for helping me on the hikes and putting up with a mom that is chasing after a dream. You girls have been the inspiration behind this project.
Thank you so much to all the amazing people in my life that have helped contributed and make this project possible. Seriously, thank you.

Thank you to the Born to be Adventurous Mamas groups and everyone on Instagram and Facebook that has been so encouraging to me. And... for everyone else that I forgot to mention that has encouraged me to be vulnerable and supported me. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
I have been working on this project since 2013 and finally see the finish line. Funding for the publishing of the book is my biggest challenge and if this is fully funded then there will be no stopping the book production.
If issues do arise and I anticipate a delay with book production and printing, then I will update you as soon as physically possible. I am just as excited as you are for the Hiking Guide for Families to come out and I am working hard to finish the book in time for the 2020 summer hiking season.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
