Logistics Update- Chinese May Day Halts Certifications

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- After pulling all of our strings with our logistics relationships, we were unable to expedite the certifications process for our Boombot REX delivery. We are all disappointed about our inability to get around the red tape of Chinese logistics. We ran into May Day which has put our certification on hold till MAY 10th.

As something to take note of, whenever you’re transporting goods out of China, talk to your freight forwarder MONTHS in advance and be sure that all certifications have been taken care of. We had the Boombot REX go through CE, FCC, ROHS, CTIA and many more. Even with that, this last UN38.3 one put a halt on our shipment in a very untimely manner. You can move product at smaller volumes without much restriction, but when you’re dealing with bulk shipments with batteries, there are different rules of engagement that need additional attention. Lesson learned.

As a day for the working people worldwide. I guess it’s kind of like Labor Day for China. It was established on May 1st in 1886. In China. They probably have BBQs and sip PBR in their own form.

So the good news is that we’re jumping the boat. Yup. No more 30-day chug across the Pacific Ocean. That’s RIGHT. We are putting these puppies on a jet and we are getting them out of China ASAP. Between pick-up, transit and customs, we could see product stateside as soon as MAY 16-18th window. The White REX early backers will have their Boombot REX and wall charger delivered to them with first priority. We will have some units at our SF studio if anyone wants to come in and grab one by hand. You can come party with us at Bay to Breakers Block Party and it will be all good.

We have ONE lucky unit coming over via DHL Express for our favorite Kickstarter backer. Leave a comment on why you deserve the best portable speaker and what you will use it for and we’ll send you your Boombot REX. Be the FIRST. We will pick a winner this Friday. Enter the contest HERE.

Thank you all for your patience and we hope that we’ve been doing a good job keeping you updated and in the loop on our startup woes.

Yours Truly,

Frustrated Boombotix Team

      Seeing other people's frustration on this post makes plenty of sense. The same amount of sense how often a kickstarter project usually gets delayed. We all want the REX and certifications seem out of the control of the team, although in the future they should work on product delivery ETA's.

      @JT: I think you're missing the point of a Kickstarter, to be honest.

      It's not to get something cheap. It's to support the kind of people that want to try new and exciting things, but need a little extra help backing the project. Boombotix has some degree of experience in the field of portable speakers, but they used Kickstarter as a way to make a better/premium product, and as a part of supporting that, you get a discount and you get it before retail does.

      @Micheal Haydu

      FYI, the Boombot2 is available on for the same cost delivered as the "thanks for being awesome" discount.

      As eager as I am to get this product, the frustration is NOT just on our level...

      "Yours Truly,

      Frustrated Boombotix Team"

      Glad to see your passion and that you care about it, and we are ALL eager to get it..

      @Kevin Yang

      They ALREADY gave us a lifetime discount in their store. And that was just a "thanks for being awesome".

      In kickstarter you're not buying something out of a catalogue. You're backing a project with a donation. For your generosity you're probably rewarded with a gift. Sometimes the project might fail completely, might be late or, very rarely, come in on time. The nature of the beast is that you are taking a risk that is made clear from the outset. So you can't complain that something is delayed and ask for recompense. You haven't actually bought anything.

    7. Kevin Yang on May 1, 2013

      i agree with @JT i think we should get a little discount or our money back, or just give us a little something more.

      So are you telling me that the Arctic White early backers in the US are screwed out of getting a REX early? Not what I signed up for!

      I work in SF and would be more than happy to come pick one up. I've been speaker-less since my x-mini died a month ago and dancing in the streets hasn't been the same since. Let me know when and where! =D

      ...and how about for the international, colours boombot orders?

      @JT This is kickstarter. If you don't expect delays from original estimates, you're going to have a bad time. Don't try to bully the people trying to do the best they can.

    12. JT on April 30, 2013

      Wow. I pledged the EARLY BIRD SPECIAL in December. Original delivery was at the end of February, then late March/early April, then the end of April, then ETA: May 3rd, now May 16-16.

      I know this is Kickstarter, but this is not your first rodeo, guys. Not very cool. You should give us early backers more than a 20% discount on other products for the multiple delays.

    13. Paul DoCarmo on April 30, 2013

      So unless I'm reading this wrong it is actually good news for the regular backers? Stateside delivery May 16-18 instead of late May? Either way I'm pumped to try a cool product.

    14. Matt Acosta on April 30, 2013

      How will we be notified of Early Backer shipping?

      International Backers: You guys are in the best of company as your product is already en route to our fulfillment center in Hong Kong. We expect these units to ship FROM Hong Kong on May 7th.

      Akshay Kohli, would you like your unit to get delivered to you abroad? Please send exact request to cmac at boombotix dot com.

      BOOMBOTIX TEAM: I'm a college student who completes the semester on May 8th. I'm immediately going out of the country for 3 months until I get back to school mid August. Is there any way you guys can hold onto my unit until I get back. If you try to ship it it's just going to get sent back to you. I've messaged as well but haven't heard anything. I assumed when I backed this project that I would have gotten it way before summer started but this is not the case. I'm fine with it I just need to make sure you can just hold it and ship it later. Please help!

      The May 1st labor holiday is celebrated around the world. It's just the US that already has another day set aside for Labor Day.'_Day
