8-22-2018-EGG EMBRY INSIGHTS + LAYOUTS
During one of my past Kickstarter projects, I received an email on said KS project from a lad who I had not heard of, and whose KS profile pic was that of a caricature illustration of a man with black hair and a goattee. The email went something like this,
Good evening! My name is Egg, I'm in the metro Atlanta area, and I do interviews for Open Gaming Network about current RPG Kickstarters. Would you be interested in doing a 4 to 6 question interview about The Book of Dark Secrets? If you are and can turn it around Monday evening, I can run it on Tuesday. No pressure either way.
Of course, I immediately jumped at the offer and accepted.
Since then, I have been following EGG EMBRY and his writings about new and worthwhile Kickstarter projects that focus largely on the fantasy roleplaying game industry. I found his writing to be clean and crisp and very much to the point. Nothing is wasted or boring. What is even better is that they are all effortless reads and not ponderous or painful to read at all. His writing came across as useful facts and honest opinions. For me, being relatively new in this field, I did learn some things from Egg regarding launching a successful Kickstarter project. These tips range from the day and time of day to tips on partnering with other likeminded, yet non-competitive creators with current KS projects. He has more tips on creating good Kickstarters, and he is also going to share some opinions on what he and others like to see in a promising Kickstarter project, as well as a rpg adventure.
Egg writes for EN WORLD, Open Gaming Network, Tessera Guild and in print for Knights of the Dinner Table.
I have not known Egg for a really long time, but then again, I have not known many people at all in this industry for a long period of time. What I can say with great sincerity and accuracy is that Egg Embry is incredibly honest and attentive and helpful. He also has tremendous integrity. I offered to pay him for a service awhile back and he flat out refused and said his interview was sincere and could not or would not even accept a tip. Note: There is nothing wrong with accepting a tip, but Egg plays it straight from start to finish. I am having him write a decent amount of content because he has some great insights from his particular perspective, and also because he is one heckuva good guy.
Also, I have attached the inside layout for both books. Similar, but not completely the same. PLEASE NOTE: The layout with the tiny little figures: This is NOT 100% complete. I am going to make these tiny figures a bit smaller, but still noticeable. In other words? They will NOT be a nuisance.
The 4, 2-page spreads for THE FILGAR CROOKE TRAPS BOOK are going to be a small battery of 4 ROGUE NPCs that you can choose to play. The reason is that the 12-page adventure CAN be played by any character class, but it is LOADED with traps and maybe your players might not want to risk their characters on such a nightmarish adventure! If that is the case, and if they are looking for a bit of a change of pace, they can either ADD 1, 2, 3 or 4 rogues to help them, OR just run these poor fools, er, I mean brave folks through the adventure and watch the fun! lol
Yes, there will be full stats for Pf and D&D 5e, and in 4 level ranges. Tentatively in the following level ranges: 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16 (ish)
MATTHEW RICHMOND’s gorgeous stock art is featured heavily here. I am going to respectfully ask Matthew is I can add him to the ARTIST section of the directory. This will be a page showing his best work, along with a link to contact him for requests or special commissions, OR, just affordable and GREAT AND FUN STOCK ART! If YOU are an artist or mapmaker, writer, etc, you too will be added to the directory, with your written permission, of course...
Thanks again, and I will be making another update very soon. The final three contributors include Rick Hershey, Kevin Watson and Bobby Nash. I will be making the decision on choosing the next contributor very soon, so stay tuned.
