The BoneBat "Comedy of Horrors" Film Festival is the planet’s only fest dedicated to the Horror Comedy genre. Entering its ninth year, it is a 2-time coveted Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award nominee, and has been named one of MovieMaker Magazine's Top Five Coolest Comedy Film Fest's WORLD WIDE!
The "Comedy of Horrors" Film Fest is a one-day entertainment extravaganza which includes feature length films and shorts from around the world, all featuring some mix of comedy, horror, or (best of all) horror-comedy. Somewhere in the middle of all that, there's live, independent music. And prizes galore, courtesy of our generous sponsors! The "Comedy of Horrors" gives away tangible, physical items of value that you can lug home and enjoy – unlike the ones and zeros that pass for rewards in some circles. If funded, this festival will take place on Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at SIFF Cinema Uptown in Seattle, WA.
This is our sixth Kickstarter campaign, and since the last five years’ festivals have fully funded, we are looking to make 2019 even more jaw-droppingly stupendous!
Over eight festivals, Gord and Steve have earned a solid reputation for delivering a unique mix of the horrific and hilarious. They screened the Seattle premieres of features Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu, The Doghouse, Deadheads, Monster Brawl, Moleman of Belmont Ave, Buck Wild, Puppet Monster Massacre, Grabbers, Love Bite, Hellbenders, Fear Town USA, Wolf Cop, Ava's Possessions, Patchwork, The Night Watchmen, Found Footage 3D!, Another Wolf Cop, and Double Date!
Additionally, they unearthed such viewer-pleasing treats as BFF Girls, How My Dad Killed Dracula, Spider, Cargols, Killer Kart, Don't Move, Lesley the Pony Has An A+ Day, First Date, L'Ours Noir, Dinosaur, Dickproof 2, The Academy Award nominated Garden Party, The Package, Love Bitten, The Babysitter Murders, and our 2018 viewers choice award winners Winston, Emiko, We Summoned a Demon, and Lunch Ladies!
This is all brought to you by Steve and Gord of The BoneBat Show podcast, your Seattle-based home for comedy, music and pop-culture since 2007.
That’s right! There are three things that Gord and Steve really enjoy, but only two of those things are legal in public; so let's just keep it to movies and live music. Past years have featured sets from Indie Instrumentalists Barefoot Barnacle, Nerdcore Kingpins Death*Star, Progressive Metallists Burning of I, the funky sounds of Tip to Base, Nerd Rock from Kirby Krackle, Beefy's own brand of nerdcore rap, the deathgrass stylings of San Francisco's Pine Box Boys, and in last year's fest, local noir-rockers Devilwood!
2019’s musical act is a lot like that disturbing voice in your head, you KNEW it was just a matter of time before it returned. You asked for them. Heck, you demanded them. So, if funded, we will bring them back just for you – the progenitors of blackgrass, THE PINE BOX BOYS!

"A wonderful mix of comedy and horror...I’m already looking forward to BoneBat next year." - Tim Hall, The People's Critic, Seattle Post-Intelligencer

"Definitely worth checking out" - Seattle Film Blog
"The BoneBat Comedy of Horrors Film Fest last April was one of the best indie film festivals I've ever had the pleasure of attending: Lovingly curated, and brimming with innovative local, national, and international genre cinema. Between the uniformly high quality of the selections and Steve Holetz's affable energy driving it, BoneBat's Fest felt like a meaty, seriously world-class presentation…only with way more gallows giggles and spurting viscera. The mad geniuses behind BoneBat have proven that they know how to make a little money go a long way. Give 'em a real budget, and God only knows what surprises they'll have in store for rabid genre fans". - Tony Kay, City Arts Magazine, The Sunbreak
Yes! If the festival funds, any remaining tickets will go on sale on February 1st, 2019 for the advance price of $35 each, and increase again in price to $40 on April 1st, 2019. T-Shirts and hoodies will be become painfully more expensive later too, so now is the time to fulfill all of your Comedy of Horrors Film Fest needs at the lowest possible prices.
The money will go directly to making the festival happen. Theater rental, graphic design, shirt and poster printing, paying The Pine Box Boys and screening fees will be covered first. Additional funds received will be used in various ways, big and small to make the festival even more amazing!
THE lowest prices we can offer for this year's tickets and festival merch, that's what! Plus, we have Kickstarter exclusives to appeal to hardcore film festival junkies, BoneBat Show fans, Mighty Wombat groupies, podcasters and even musicians! Here is a picture of 2015's Enormous Package, including our limited edition poster and T-Shirt, to give you an idea of the awesomeness available.
We will have a brand new limited edition design for our 2019 posters, T-Shirts and Hoodies, from this year's spectacularly acclaimed artist, who we will announce DURING THE CAMPAIGN! EXCITE!
If you are a filmmaker, and have a comedy and/or horror film, we would love to see it! We are accepting submissions now through March 1st, 2019 through Film Freeway and Withoutabox. Submit your film today!
"I didn't get to attend, but it has been a wonderful experience being in this fest. They promote the films heavily and are in great communication. The fans of the fest are very supportive and we had several shout outs. We also won at Bonebat and they did an interview for their radio show. Great fest!" - Clarissa Jacobson, Producer, Lunch Ladies
The BoneBat Show is a Podcast- and Parsec- Award nominated, comedy, music and pop-culture podcast which has been rocking the virtual airwaves since 2007.
Co-host Gord Caulkins is a California-based (feel free to hold that against him) cartoonist whose comics have made people laugh worldwide since 2001. His work can (and should!) be seen at mightywombat.com.
In addition to his duties as director of the "Comedy of Horrors" Film Fest, and producer, co-host, and interview ninja for The BoneBat Show, Steve Holetz plays guitar in the band Social Meteor, and spins independent metal, rock and punk music on the Bonehand Heavy Half Hour, which can be found at bonehand.com.
The "Comedy of Horrors" Film Fest has been made possible, in part, through generous corporate sponsors. If you would like to put YOUR company or organization in front of our audience, and be a part of one of the coolest film festivals in the world (See Word on the Street above.) please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would be happy to work with you - flexibly, creatively and professionally.
[Note: Corporate sponsorships are contingent upon approval by Steve and Gord. Look, I'm sure YOUR company or organization is awesome. We just put this in here to prevent our film fest from getting hijacked by, say, Skrulls.]
If the campaign reaches $6000: The Pine Box Boys will compose a new theme song specifically for this festival, which all backers will receive via secret link, and witness as it is performed LIVE for the first time ever in the history of music! How cool is THAT?!
If the campaign reaches $6500: THE MUGS GET BETTER!
We will upgrade the mugs from basic printed artwork to Laser Etching into the ceramic itself! EVERY BACKER who pledges at a $30 level or greater will receive (1) Limited Edition 2019 BoneBat "Comedy of Horrors" Laser Etched Coffee Mug! This is next level stuff folks, it's gonna look awesome! (Final art to come)
STRETCH GOAL #3: NEW!
If the campaign reaches $7000, Commemorative Patches for everyone!
Each backer at the Posterage Level or higher will receive a custom limited edition patch, embroidered with 2019 Comedy of Horrors logo, suitable for sewing on your beanie, tote-bag or battle vest!
STRETCH GOAL #4: NEW!
If the campaign reaches $7500: WE SPREAD THE LOVE!
In addition to the awesome awards we give out, which are hand sculpted from the finest free-range organic demon bone* by our artist Kevin K., as a thank you to all the amazing filmmakers who make this whole thing possible, we will add a $100 cash prize to each of our (3) Viewers Choice Awards! (Our Jury award is already accompanied by a $100 prize.)
*Not at all true.
STRETCH GOAL #5: TO BE REVEALED!
The Comedy of Horrors Film Fest features scenes of horrific comedy and comedic horror: a cinematic dichotomy which has been linked to brain bifurcation in laboratory interns. Steve and Gord cannot be held liable for lost articles, wavering morals, stained clothing, insomnia, hysteria, somnabulism, vampirism, lycanthropy, a disappointing afterlife, alien implants, heebeejeebies, bad jokes, banged heads, and/or laughing beer out your nose. If you have an erection lasting more than nine hours, tell all your friends. Then consult a physician.
Risks and challenges
There is very little risk beyond the initial event funding. Steve and Gord successfully created this festival from scratch and have run it eight times. The venue is there, the band is ready, the films are out there, and we just need to put it all together. The only real danger to this festival is if something bad were to happen to Steve and Gord physically. And THAT, my friends, is why they will not be permitted to fly in the same hovercraft together until after the festival is complete.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
