Every day, bad weather deters countless people around the world from riding their bikes. At VANMOOF we are committed to remove all barriers to biking so we created a unique solution to enjoy riding even when it rains. Meet the Boncho, a full-body bike poncho.
A standard raincoat doesn’t do the job on the bike, because it doesn’t protect your lower half when pedaling. Boncho provides an extended structure that goes over your handlebars to form a cover for your legs and feet.
BONCHO uses a unique folding structure, similar to pop up tents. The folding and unfolding is easy, making the package very small and thin, easy to carry inside almost every bag.
We will use material and technology from the outdoor industry - strong, stylish, weatherproof and breathable.
STYLE AND COMFORT
When it’s raining the body easily becomes hot and sweaty. The BONCHO is open from underneath, and ultra-breathable.
After counting all the votes, it is pretty clear that Plan B was the winner of the reflector contest! We are happy with the results, because it was our personal favorite as well. We will use a nice small sophisticated reflector strip, woven inside the seam, so it won't affect the waterproofness. A great example how a Kickstarter campaign can help to improve the product before its launch!

The 2 designers, Shane and Vicky, met with the VANMOOF team in Taipei, the city where it always rains. The product design graduates had already designed a new type of umbrella, with a metal folding structure that could make a big umbrella into a tiny package. Quickly we started talking about how this idea could evolve into a solution for staying dry on the bike.
Shane and Vicky teamed up with the VANMOOF R&D team. It took a lot of time and effort on rainy day after rainy day to find the right structure, size and material. But it’s been worth it; for Shane and Vicky the final goal is to see their product in real life, keeping cyclists all over the world dry.

Risiken und Herausforderungen
The Boncho development is almost complete. The most important thing that still need to do be done is finalizing the exact fabric specifications. We have a great fabric material at hand right now (also used on prototype), but when we reach our goal we can go for a complete customized fabric and make it even lighter and stronger. The only risk we can foresee right now is a longer lead-time on the fabric witch could potentially delay the delivery by 1 month, but so far we believe the shipping date in March can be met.Näheres zur Rechenschaftspflicht auf Kickstarter
