Counterblast is an adventure battle game set in an alternate Earth future past where humans join forces and technologies with several alien species to protect freedom throughout the Milky Way galaxy, particularly a region of space known as the Outer Reaches.

Players may choose from a number of characters and creatures to man their crew rosters and accomplish various mission objectives. Crews can consist of a single model to as many as twenty or more.
COUNTERBLAST mixes classic pulp sci-fi adventure with fast paced action and cinematic thrills, evocative of the serials and pulp anthologies that have captivated the imaginations of previous generations.
Bombshell Miniatures has a track record for producing exceptional models with top quality sculpts. From our previous projects, Bombshell Babes, the Maelee Special Edition Set, and the Scout Ship Kit, we have built a process to deliver miniatures to our backers on time with care and personalized service. All of the character models will be cast in metal. We are currently looking into other solutions for manufacturing larger models in other materials. We are working with a foundry that has over 40 years experience in producing molding and casting for metal gaming miniatures. The 3D print vendor that supplies our 3D printing has brand new high resolution printing equipment and provides services to many other high profile miniatures companies.
The Counterblast models are designed to be used specifically with our game. However, they may also be suitable for any number of other tabletop games currently on the market. Our lead sculptor and art director Patrick Keith has been sculpting for over eight years and has worked for top companies Reaper Miniatures, Dark Sword Miniatures, Privateer Press, Wyrd Miniatures, Impact! Minatures, and many, many others. We want to provide miniatures you are confident will fit with your existing collection. You can see larger pictures of the Counterblast models here.
We are raising funds for production. The rules are ready for art, layout and printing, and the models for the Faction Core Sets need molding & casting for the sculpts, 3D printing for accessories, and packaging. Your support can ensure that we can make all of these things and even more!
Backer levels are set so that "Early Bird" supporters will receive their rewards first. In order to ensure we have an efficient fulfillment pipeline the early backer levels are limited so that we can manage our delivery process.
Options include the mercenary freighter crews-for-hire known as Lancers, the feared and alien Edofleini, The brave Galactic Defense Force (GDF), the cunning and formidable Neiran, or the Ruthless and unrelenting Mekkus.
Brett Amundson is a long time gamer and miniatures hobbyist. A software engineer by trade he enjoys the creative process even more than the end product (usually). When the opportunity to join Airlock Games came up he decided to take the leap into game development and publishing. Previously, he was part of the team that produced "Secrets of the Third Reich", providing background material and rules development assistance. An award winning painter and sculptor, Brett really enjoys doing miniatures conversions and playing any type of game whenever he can. Brett is the lead developer for Airlock Games.
Patrick Keith is an award winning sculptor and painter who has provided work since 2006 for companies such as Reaper, Dark Sword, Privateer Press and many, many others. He likes sculpting females, robots and Steampunk characters while listening to movie scores and classic rock. His availability for commissions these days is limited; however, he is particularly susceptible to pizza, Hooters wings, spiced rum and Aristocrat pipe tobacco but prefers cash. In the fall of 2012 Patrick and a grassroots group of artists, painters and sculptors formed Bombshell Miniatures that was successfully funded through Kickstarter. He now spends his time focusing on projects for Airlock Games and sculpting work for select clients. You can see some of Patrick's other work on his sculpting blog.
Vicky Morgan-Keith is an award winning painter who has provided work for Reaper, Impact!, and Bombshell Miniatures. Some of her painted figures and writing appear in Reaper's Warlord: Savage North rulebook. She enjoys conversion work and has an impressive portfolio of pieces for many of the Star Wars characters made from various existing figures. Vicky is responsible for developing the successful Kickstarter projects that have provided funds to make Bombshell Miniatures a reality. She primarily writes and contributes much of the background, character, and narrative content for the COUNTERBLAST setting.
We have been working with these fantastic artists to make the ideas and concepts for Counterblast tangible. You can check out more of their work from these links.
Risks and challenges
We are Airlock Games, an established company with a brand new name. As Bombshell Miniatures we successfully completed three Kickstarter campaigns and with each one we've improved our production capabilities, fulfillment process and on-time rate. Our most recent project helped us streamline backer reward selection and made international shipping more economical for our friends abroad.
Even with all our previous experience we are still a small company dependent on a few people to do a lot of work. We know backers expect to be treated fairly and receive their rewards in a timely manner, so on-time fulfillment and backer satisfaction has been and always will be our top priority. That's why we decided early on to have the core set miniatures sculpted and ready to go to mold as soon as the project completes. In addition, we're providing a preview copy of the rules during the campaign so everyone can get a feel for game play in the Counterblast universe. In short, we want you to know exactly what you'll be getting from us as a backer of this project and that we are very serious about making Counterblast happen.
Despite our best efforts the unexpected can occur. We are dependent on outside manufacturers to produce our products and delays can sometimes happen. Fortunately, we have established good working relationships with our main suppliers and do not anticipate any delays.
One of our goals is to attend GenCon this year with brand new Counterblast product in hand. That's why our "Early Bird" levels are not at a discounted price, but at an earlier fulfillment target. We didn't want to risk being victims of too much success and letting some of or backers down if we went to GenCon before sending out everyone's rewards. We feel we can get rewards in the hands of a limited number of people before GenCon and to everyone else soon after.
The last risk has to do with our reward levels and stretch goals. As a small company we do not have the same efficiencies and production capabilities as larger organizations that frequently use Kickstarter as a means to launch new products. We're trying to get Airlock off the ground which means money is tight and our margin razor thin. We've tried to come up with creative offerings that we hope backers will find intriguing and enticing enough to trust us with their hard earned money.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
