July Subscriptions Launching July 15, 2015
As promised, here’s our July subscription launch update!
The short version: backers who selected a July 2015 start date will begin their subscriptions on July 15, 2015.
If you haven’t selected a start date yet because you haven’t replied to the survey that we’d sent you through Kickstarter, you don’t need to take any action at this time. As of 4:00 p.m. EDT July 10, 2015, we are no longer accepting any more Kickstarter surveys. Instead, we will send you an email version of that survey or request any missing information on Monday, July 13, 2015 so please look out for that. If you don’t receive an email on Monday, that means you should be good to go! :)
That’s it for the mandatory update! If you’re interested in the goings-on at Schoolism or want to help with some testing, please read on!
So, the long version of the last two weeks: we have been putting the money that you pledged so generously to good use. As alluded to in our previous update, the delay in July subscription starts was on account of an unexpected incompatibility between our video player and our new load balancer/traffic cop. What was happening was that when our load balancer attempted to balance site traffic between our servers, a bug in the video player would cause the video being played to either skip or restart. Obviously, trying to watch the lecture videos under those circumstances would have been impossible and aggravate everyone.
We’ve since acquired a new video player, a couple of new servers, and spent the last two weeks rewriting the system code to integrate the new player so that everything looks reasonably similar to how Schoolism used to look and function the way it’s supposed to. Between now and July 15, we will be testing the player and videos to make sure things run correctly.
To this end, if you are now or have in the past been placed on alternate playback because your videos were laggy, and would like to help us test our video player by simply streaming a short video, please kindly send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We only need a handful of testers from various places around the world so if you can help, we would really appreciate it!
Thank you again for your support and patience!
And of course, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns! :)
