The story of BRAND NEW NOSTALGIA.
It started out with a simple idea: create a sketch blog featuring themed pieces by up-and-coming comic book illustrators from all over the world. Andrew MacLean wanted there to be a place where artists like himself could be free to work on illustrations without the constraints of budget, time, or rules. Each piece would be influenced by a theme - alternately chosen by one of the artists. Once the theme was chosen the artists were free to do whatever they wanted.
Andrew searched all over the internet to build the most eclectic group of comic artists the world has ever seen. Andrew enlisted digital media specialist Brandon Clarke to help build and manage BrandNewNostalgia.com.
But the blog wasn't enough... There had to be more... They needed a book.
kaBOOMbox: Volume One will be that book.
A trade paperback (TPB) anthology consisting of some of the best pieces from the blog as well as all new comic stories by each of the creators. These comics will be 100% creator owned and allow for complete creative freedom.
kaBOOMbox: Volume One will be produced in association with OUT OF STEP ARTS - an online art collective of both emerging and established artists.
All proceeds from this Kickstarter campaign go towards the production of the book. The more pledges we get - the more books printed. That simple.
Risks and challenges
This challenges involved are the difficulties in collaborating artists from all over the world to bring comic fans an anthology that's entirely creator-owned material. It's about giving complete artistic freedom to comic artists in an age when so much of the industry is dominated by corporate properties.
We've spent months planning the project out, budgets, deadlines, hiring talent, so luckily the majority of our challenges are behind us now. What remains is compiling the content, organizing and designing the final product, and then getting the whole thing printed.
This book has contributors located all over the globe and each of them are at different stages in their careers. We are of course setting deadlines but there will undoubtedly be someone who has a hard time making them. Considering we all work together weekly, I know they can squeeze in the time to get their content completed eventually.
Given the research we've done, we are confident our budget will cover all costs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
