About

STELLIUM is a resource-management strategy game with the look and feel of a traditional point-and-click adventure. You play as the director of a mining colony on a distant planet, holding out in the face of dwindling supplies and a deadly, invisible threat.

The tactical decisions you make over your 160 days in command will determine whether you or any of your colleagues make it out alive.

Genre: Strategy, Resource Management
Number of Players: Single Player
Platforms: Windows, macOS, and Linux
Release Date: October 2018
Game Length: At least 10 hours

Frank Donner is the newest director of Dome 61, an industrial mining facility on a barren world. The dome specializes in the extraction of Stellium, a rare mineral that's used to stabilize Earth's deteriorating atmosphere.

Upon arriving at his post, Donner receives an ominous briefing from SYS, the dome’s artificial intelligence: Donner’s predecessor vanished under bizarre circumstances, and the facility's supplies are nearing depletion. To make matters all the worse, members of the crew have begun contracting a seemingly untraceable virus, with truly horrifying effects.

As the situation grows ever more dire, Donner must lead his team of miners, engineers, doctors, and other specialists to keep the dome operational until another source of Stellium can be secured for Earth's consumption. Can he make the difficult choices necessary to save everything—and everyone—that he can?

To keep Dome 61 operational, you as its director must coordinate, develop, and defend:

  • Coordinate the efforts of the specialists under your command, allocating work to whichever resources require immediate and long-term attention
  • Develop new facilities and equipment to improve your workers' output and automate certain jobs
  • Defend the facility from staff members that succumb to the effects of the mysterious pathogen

While the first two components allow for careful and deliberate planning, defending the dome is another thing entirely. When hostiles are detected in the facility, the game enters a side-scrolling action sequence in which you and the dome's security forces must fend off the attacking horde.

Unearthing the truth

Permeating Dome 61 is the sense that something is...off. Donner's sudden assignment to the facility is highly irregular, and data is uncharacteristically thin regarding the whereabouts of his predecessor.

As days pass, evidence related to this mystery continues to emerge from a tangled web of sources. Donner can spend valuable time investigating these leads and piecing them together, assuming he has any to spare. Doing so might result in material benefits to the dome, or even in an entirely different outcome for himself and his crew...

The crew

Dome 61's staff members are among the best and brightest in their fields. Donner must take full advantage of their expertise to have a shot at survival.

Mission-critical resources

If the dome's supply of any of these resources becomes depleted, the consequences can be immediate and catastrophic.

Energy

The dome runs on solar power, but the planet’s dying star provides only so much. Solar panels can also be damaged or obscured by dust storms, requiring engineers to make repairs.

Oxygen

A breathing crew is a happy crew. The dome is equipped with air recyclers that occasionally need a visit from the engineering team.

Water

The dome’s water reclamation system needs to keep on humming if everything inside wants to keep on living.

Food

Plots of soil within the dome have been treated to support vegetation. The process isn’t perfect, however, and crops are occasionally lost to contaminants.

Stellium

The reason for the dome’s very existence. The stability of Earth’s decaying atmosphere depends on regular shipments of this scarce and volatile mineral.

Stasis Pods

The dome is equipped with a number of cryogenic chambers. Personnel in stasis consume no resources, but they also don’t contribute to their specialization.

Serum

The medical team can develop treatments to help combat the pathogen afflicting the crew. Failing to address the disease can lead to a disastrous epidemic.

Crew

In the end, every other variable Frank balances is in the interest of saving the people under his command.

Resource spotlight: Crops

Every critical resource on the dome has its own unique set of decisions and challenges. Here's an early look into crop management:

You assign different crops to the dome's available plots based on their expected output, and on the minimum soil quality necessary to sustain the plants until harvest.

Crops have been genetically engineered to grow quickly, but they still take a few days:

Planning ahead with your crops is crucial to keep your crew fed and healthy.

STELLIUM will be a...stellar...experience, no matter how many stretch goals we reach. But we can make that experience even deeper—and bring it to as many platforms as we can—with additional support.

Here's how we plan to allocate the funds we raise via the campaign:

(Funds we raise beyond our base target will of course be dedicated to whatever stretch goal those funds help to achieve.)

Game development costs are numerous and varied. As we continue to build out the game, we require funds for coding, writing, storyboarding, visual design, audio design, and numerous other tasks. Your support provides us the time and focus we need to produce a game that we are proud to share with you.

We are Blyts, a small and experienced indie studio based in Argentina. Our previous PC title, Kelvin and the Infamous Machine, is a delightful throwback point-and-click adventure that was made possible by a Kickstarter campaign a lot like this one. (Here’s a review of Infamous Machine from Rock, Paper, Shotgun)

All of Infamous Machine's primary contributors are back for STELLIUM, and we’re excited to use what we built—and what we learned—during Infamous Machine to create an even more memorable experience in a new genre!

 FAQ

- What kind of game is STELLIUM?

At its heart, this is a game about carefully managing and allocating scarce resources to survive against all odds. STELLIUM shares a lot of DNA with the base management side of the XCOM series, while presenting its world in the style of a classic point-and-click adventure. With that style comes the secondary focus on narrative discovery, as players converse with fellow staff members and examine fragmented records to unravel the mystery surrounding the dome.

Oh, and there’s some 2D side-scrolling combat in there for good measure :)

- How long is the game?

A first, successful playthrough of Stellium (which is no guarantee) should take at least ten hours. You’ll want to experience the game more than once, however, as each playthrough presents a unique set of challenges. The game will also feature more than one ending...

- When will the game be released?

We’re targeting a Q4 2018 release. We will do everything we can to stick to that window, while ensuring above all that we deliver a game that is more than worthy of your time and money.

- Is a demo available?

Unfortunately, strategy games like STELLIUM don’t lend themselves to enjoyable early demos. In order for the game to feel good, virtually all of its systems must be in place and well balanced to produce an experience that would be representative of the final product. We’ll of course have beta tests closer to release, but we can’t provide a demo at this time.

- Will Stellium be on Steam?

If we are Greenlit, absolutely. Click here to vote for us!

- What platforms will be supported?

STELLIUM will definitely be available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Support for other platforms (such as mobile devices) depends on whether we reach the associated stretch goal, and will likely come after the initial release.

- How much of the game is done already?

All of the game’s interplaying systems have been fully designed, and about 30 percent of the art assets are complete. The script is intentionally still in its early stages to ensure that we can appropriately incorporate the names, likenesses, and suggestions of our backers, without having to shoehorn them into an already rigid narrative.

- Is there a press kit?

Yep, here it is!

Risks and challenges

Our biggest risk is slipping on our targeted release date. Game development comes with a long list of unforeseen hiccups that can delay the process, and on top of that, strategy games like STELLIUM require a great deal of fine-tuning to make sure the challenge level is just right.

We will of course do everything we can to avoid such delays, and will be fully transparent with you, the backers, should they arise.

Thank you so much for your support!
