At long last I am ready to embark on making my first all-original tunes CD and it will be called Greasy Creek! I'm pretty excited about it! I have been composing fiddle-tunes for over 20 years and have snuck one or two originals on every one of my CDs. These have been well received and folks around the world have even been kind enough to learn to play some of them including: Springfield, Madison County Waltz, Dare Devil Blues, Life's Fortune and others. This CD will have some of my best fiddle-tunes yet and I hope you will enjoy them. Your support of this project can help make this musical dream of mine possible. It simply wouldn't happen otherwise and these tunes would go unheard.
It is my on-going goal to compose tunes that naturally blend in with older, traditional Appalachian tunes…adding a new strand to the braided rope of tradition. Those old tunes were all new once. I want to create something new while respecting the roots of the past. To get the real, old-time sound on this new record I'm playing with great musicians and choosing sparse settings for some tunes such as solo fiddle or intimate duets with clawhammer banjo or guitar as well as the full, driving stringband sound for others. I can already hear the clawhammer banjo, fiddle drones, round peak guitar runs, mandolin harmony, and bass on those lonesome modal tunes in my head. It is with great anticipation that I imagine this all coming together at Joe "bass" Dejarnette's studio in Floyd, Virginia this May.
Joining me on this new recording with be the inimitable Carl Jones (my most talented husband on mandolin, guitar and banjo) plus good friends Adam Hurt (banjo), Beth Hartness (guitar), Bob Carlin (banjo/guitar), Joe Dejarnette (bass) and other very special guests I'll surprise you with as the project unfolds. Those who pledge support get to choose among many rewards and also will receive behind-the-scenes updates on how the CD project unfolds, news of which artists jump on board, photos and more. Since Kickstarter does not permit any campaign to be partially funded I will not receive a penny unless the campaign goal of $6500 is reached. All funds raised will cover the direct costs of recording, mixing, mastering, paying guest artists, designing, printing the CD package and mailing it to you. I am grateful to every one of you, near and far, who help me bring these new tunes out to the world. You make it possible for me to self-produce this album without the restrictions imposed by labels or other commercial organizations. I promise, as with my other CDs, to put my heart, mind and soul into this project. I'll also work very hard to have it to you in it's handsome package in just a couple short months.
Please make a pledge and Thank You again for your support!!
Risks and challenges
I believe the Greasy Creek CD project will go off without any hitches but that said there are challenges with every creative project. If this campaign is a success all the recording for Greasy Creek will all take place followed by mixing and mastering this May. To ensure everything goes smoothly I have made sure to work with a first-rate engineer Joe Bass Dejarnette who recorded both Carl and my last albums (and did a great job!). Joe get’s the most natural sound possible and we are confident his experience/exceptional ear in the studio will guarantee an excellent recording.
There are sometimes delays when making a CD. I have to juggle the schedules of several guest musicians, Joe the engineer’s and ours. Then artwork and CD design/printing are a complex process too. I do not foresee any delays but if recording days or CD printing slow at anytime in the project you will be informed right away. I expect Greasy Creek to come out in early July or earlier in June if we are lucky.
Lastly, our project must be fully funded or Kickstarter will not release any funds for us to make this recording. We ask you – our friends, fans and supporters –you’re your help to make the Greasy Creek CD a reality and to bring these new fiddle-tunes to the world. Thanks for helping us make music! Hope you love the CD.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
