As Seen On:
Hello Kickstarter! We're back for our 2nd project, and we invite you to join us for more 3D action!
The Metal Delta was put together with specific design goals essential in creating a superb delta printer: An easy assembly/build process, a rigid steel/metal frame, high resolution output, and an easily 'manufacturable' design to keep the costs low. This project builds off of our original Kossel Clear design, but with more durable steel parts, a higher resolution, larger volume and more upgrade offerings. The Metal Delta also incorporates many updated design improvements from the open source community. The Metal Delta's design has been tested and iterated to perfection. The result is a high quality machine that will pump out prints reliably and accurately.
All Metal Frame:
The Metal Delta’s all metal design allows for a very rigid frame, which is very important in improving positional accuracy and repeatability. It is made of 3mm hot rolled steel, precision cut with a laser, and CNC bent for dimensional accuracy. The design incorporates strategic bends and cut patterns that make building a delta so much easier. Slots have been designed to easily mount various parts, such as hotends and extrusions. Holes are pre-tapped so that various other parts can easily be bolted on precisely such as motors, endstops, and extruder mechanisms.
The Metal Delta sports a 250mm diameter x 280mm height. It has one of the best size to cost ratio compared to other delta printers in the market:
Ultra-Precision Magnetic Ball Joints:
Using specialized jigs and refined techniques, we are able to produce zero-backlash arms with a maximum of 50 microns variation in length within a set. This translates to easier and faster autocalibration, accurate prints, and an easily swappable effector. Some of you may know Haydn Huntley from the delta bot forum. We are offering his upgraded ball joints and arms, which are made of precision CNC delrin sockets, extremely light carbon fiber tubes, chromed ball studs and 1kg holding force magnets. More info here.
The ability to 3D print and Laser Engrave are among a maker's most basic needs. We are offering a laser engraver module as an upgrade option. The laser is a powerful 2 Watt 445 nm engraver that can be used to engrave various woods/paper/cardboard. Besides the safety glasses, the module will come with an attachable UV shield with added protection. We have prepared a python script that you can use as post processor to generate code for your laser engraver. Please note that we will be offering this module separate from the Kickstarter, because we would need for you to sign a safety waiver, and make other special arrangements to ensure your safety.. (THIS IS NOT A TOY!). Please contact us directly for personalized assistance.
One of the design goals was to develop a printer that would allow dual extrusion for more complicated and more colorful prints. The idea was to have dual filament input, and a shared nozzle. Having such a setup would eliminate the oozing problem that is prevalent in dual head setups.
GeckoTek Build Plate Upgrade:
Another upgrade option is the custom GeckoTek build plate upgrade. GeckoTek offers the most advanced and versatile print bed solution for your 3D printing needs. These build plates have a permanent coating that provides the optimum level of adhesion to prevent warping and provide easy part removal. The GeckoTek Magnetic Base System provides the best total 3D printing experience by allowing for quick and easy plate removal and attachment. The precision machined magnetic base integrates seamlessly with your 3D printer to keep the Build Plate flat and secured.
MKS Base 32 bit Controller w/ High Resolution Stepper Motors Upgrade:
With the use of faster 32 bit controllers and 0.9 deg stepper motors, you can effectively double the resolution on The Metal Delta. We also offer a 32 bit controller from MKS Base for a more fluid printing experience.
Bundled with Autodesk® Fusion 360™
Fusion 360 is a powerful product development tool. It will allow you to 3D model and print your designs on our printer, but it will also do a few other things such as CAM programming, simulations, rendering, and animation.
Each Metal Delta comes with an individual, FREE, 1-year commercial subscription to Autodesk® Fusion 360™ (Limited time offer; subject to applicable terms and conditions*).
The Metal Delta is compatible with many slicers, among which are Repetier, Slic3r, Cura, Kisslicer, and many others.
*This free offer is contingent on eligible backers (i) registering with Autodesk, (ii) entering a password included with the Metal Delta, (iii) accepting all terms of the free offer, including the then-current terms of service for Fusion 360, and completing such registration and acceptance prior to March 31, 2017. All eligible backers are subject to verification by Autodesk.
The Metal Delta has already been tested and proven by experienced 3d printer enthusiasts/experts, some of whom were backers from our previous Kickstarter. They have given us feedback on part design, ease of assembly, and overall product impact, actively participating in the product design.

Risks and challenges
During our 1st Kicskstarter, we were able to deliver all our rewards much, much faster than other similar Delta 3D printer Kickstarters during that time. We now have a reliable fulfillment system and established supplier relationships.
Since this is our second kickstarter, the risks involved in backing this project are very low. We are fully confident that we can handle our supply chain very well. Furthermore, a good amount of our part inventory is already in stock. Extrusions, electronics, motors have already been ordered before, and all we need to do is reorder.
Defective Items – We can guarantee that any defective part/item is on us. Just return the damaged/defective item, and we will send you a replacement. We will also cover shipping cost for sending out any replacement parts within the US.
International Shipments - Backers from outside the U.S. might have to pay duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees in addition to international shipping costs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
