Dead set on getting ahead by any means necessary, Officer Jo Bellamy is making rookie decisions nightly trying to ingratiate herself into a club which doesn’t want her for a member. And when Tony Burke, a fellow detective, refuses to let go of their sexual past, she humiliates him in front of their peers, unaware of the deadly game she’s set in motion...but she's about to discover that for every choice there is a price.
Blowback is a suspense fueled cautionary tale, which explores themes of female identity and fear filtered through the framework of an institution that still clings to a secretive and disturbing imbalance of power between the men and women sworn to serve and protect.
This film was inspired by a personal experience with violence, which I shared with the amazing Lea Thau (Peabody award winning producer and co-creator of The Moth) on her new podcast STRANGERS. (Trigger warning for violence) https://soundcloud.com/kcrwstrangers/worth-saving

Is there a tipping point for feminine blowback? My artistic approach to this film is to create a visual manifestation of the tangible internal unease that many women feel everyday, utilizing the gritty tension and muscular legacy of the cop thriller genre. The rich saturated palette of blues, browns and rusts gives a nod to the 1970’s. Cinematically, the overall use of shaping natural light and voyeuristic framing pulls the viewer into a world of shadows, isolation and uncertainty. Nothing is quite as it seems and when we realize what dark game is afoot on the field of play, the dynamic breathing camera work triggers a feeling of dread in the viewer, as if watching a lonely animal trapped in a cage of its own making. In the final frames of the climax, as the camera pulls up and away, we are cinematically reminded of how alone we are in the choices we make.

We’ve come to Kickstarter to put the film in your hands and make it the best it can be. We know how important growing our audience is but we’re open to hearing what we can do better.
We would also love to hear from you in regards to your own stories about:
-Sexual harassment in your daily life
-Sexual politics/dynamics in the workplace
WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO?
One of the biggest hurdles we face with this film is the simple costs of production. From location rentals to production insurance, picture vehicles, wardrobe, ACTRA fees (actors union), camera equipment, transportation, soundtrack composition and craft services (catering).
We are very fortunate to be film professionals with some solid connections and to that effect our post production has been completely donated by longtime creative collaborator and editor Rob Jackson of Picture Boy and our sound design, mix, colour correct and layback has been graciously donated by a "soon to be announced" post facility. Stay tuned as over the weeks you will meet via videos exciting additions to our creative team!
Of course, we would love to stretch our goal far beyond 10,000 and if that happens all the additional overages beyond our initial goal will go to paying our impressive and dedicated crew for their services. But just in case you wanted a clear vision we’ve included a pie chart.

Risks and challenges
We think there is no better time to be telling this story, and we are committed to making it the best film possible. That said, filmmaking is an art, not an exact science, and there could be some bumps along the way. If production obstacles cause delays, that could mean that we get the film out to you, our backers, later than we anticipated. But, based on our years of experience making films and the strong team we have put together, we are confident that we can make a great film and get out there soon!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
