THE BLOODY YES! CALENDAR
BLOODY YES! is the brainchild of three female Swedish creatives, equally passionate about female empowerment and art. This illustrated wall calendar aims to give women better knowledge of their biology, using the tools of science, art and design. Made entirely by women for women, Bloody Yes! provides a powerful tool to truly get to know your body and understand how you can live a more productive, healthy and harmonious life in tune with your menstrual cycle. Renowned illustrators and cycle experts from across the world will keep you inspired month by month.
ALL PROFITS ARE DONATED
We've set a realistic primary goal to fund a first edition of 500 prints, for which we'll need to raise a sum of 75 000 Swedish Kronor (~7000 EUR/7600 USD/6100 GBP). Once we've reached this goal, it's time to really get the party started! Since the complete profits from the sales of the Bloody Yes! calendar will be donated to the grassroots organisation Women for Women International, we'll be adding a so-called "stretch goal" to our campaign, in order to gather as much funds as possible to finance a second print edition, which will have a higher profit margin and enable us to donate more.
WHAT DO I GET?
Bloody Yes! is a large size wall calendar and cycle syncing guide, printed on heavyweight paper in a 29,7 x 45 cm format. Its first half contains a monthly calendar illustrated by twelve incredibly talented female artists, hand picked from all around the world, who have donated custom artwork to this project. The second half contains an informative guide which can be separated from the calendar and be kept as a booklet for future reference. The guide aims to give women who menstruate a deeper knowledge of the workings of their body, so that they can anticipate its behaviours, decrease or even eliminate troubling symptoms and generally feel more empowered and in control of their health. Here, fertility experts and scientific findings have been consulted to give you updated, sound information on the female biology. The guide introduces in-depth information on the phases of the menstrual cycle, how these interact with our minds and bodies and explains how to optimise your well being during each phase. You’ll also find inspiring interviews with fertility experts and period activists on the topic of the female body, health and feminism.
EVERY WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW HER OWN BODY
As human beings, we’re cyclical creatures. But whereas all humans are programmed to sleep at night and feed during the day, women have been gifted with a whole additional, monthly cycle that regulates everything from our feelings to our energy levels. Unfortunately, society wasn’t designed to accommodate a cycle that differs from a man’s. Instead, women have long internalised the idea that we should feel and act the same throughout the month, whether it comes to productivity, social life or libido.
Well, things are about to change. By learning about our cycles, we get access to an extraordinarily powerful catalyst for productivity and well-being. Simply aligning our lifestyles with our fluctuating hormonal states gives our bodies the support they need. Start paying attention to your body expressing its needs, and use the Bloody Yes! calendar to plan a more cyclical, harmonious lifestyle for yourself.
RENOWNED ILLUSTRATORS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD
The custom made artwork in the calendar is created by twelve of the currently most exciting female illustrators around, who have each interpreted one month of the year. These award-winning artists have collaborated with the biggest names in fashion, media and tech and come from all corners of the world, from Taiwan to Lithuania.
WHO ARE WE?
The initiators behind the Bloody Yes! calendar are a trio of female Swedish creatives. Together with a network of talented females from around the world we collaborate on exciting, forward thinking projects under the collective name Shevolution.
LINA EKSTRAND has worked as a professional illustrator for over 15 years, assembling a list of clients that spans across the globe as well as a wide range of industries. From editorial work and packaging design to fine bone china patterns and book covers, Lina’s work is hard to miss. After living in London, Mexico and New York, she is currently based in the countryside in southern Sweden where sustainability and self-sufficiency play a key role in her daily life.
LOUISE MATELL Art director and graphic designer Louise Matell lived and studied in London and New York before settling down in Berlin just over a decade ago. Her expertise lies within the fields of branding, corporate design and print design for the fashion and lifestyle industries. Female empowerment and identity are strong interests which increasingly influence her choice of projects.
EVA PAULSEN is a freelance journalist, copywriter, translator and photographer. Based in Berlin since 2008, she has delivered content from all corners of the world to over 150 publications and companies over the past decade. Having covered stories as varied as the football World Cup for homeless teams, Icelandic fairies and transgender women in male prisons, she is primarily drawn to topics related to innovation, art and women in business.
As initiators of the Bloody Yes! Calendar, we each have our own personal journey behind us which has served as motivation to launch this project, whether it be experiencing difficult periods or having a passion for art, health or science. What all three founders of Shevolution have in common is a wish to promote and support women, particularly within the creative space. We believe that the creative industry is stuck in a stagnant point of view and that its structures need to be disrupted by a more diverse source of inspiration. For this reason, we decided to come together to create inspiring projects and invite talented and driven women across the world to collaborate on them. Our aim is to empower women to utilise their talents in order to evolve and revolve the status quo.
WOMEN FOR WOMEN
The complete profits from the sales of the Bloody Yes! calendar will be donated to the international grassroots organisation Women for Women International, which to this date has helped more than 478,000 women affected by war and conflict. Each woman receives a monthly contribution which pays for a class teaching them new skills in a safe environment. Through the network of other women they grow self esteem and the ability to support others. We especially love that it will be possible to track exactly how many women we are able to help with our contribution!
Risks and challenges
We are aiming to print the calendar in November 2019 and to distribute it during December 2019. The main potential challenge lies in not managing to collect enough funds on Kickstarter for printing and distributing the first 500 copies. However, we believe in this project and are confident that others will too!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
