Update - All Stretch Goals Unlocked including new Icons! See Stretch Goals below for more details.
Virus the Card Game is an exciting way to be the mad scientist you always wanted to become. It allows you to mutate a virus making it more and more lethal.
The player that makes their virus 100% lethal first wins!
What is Virus the Card Game?
It is a Virus Strain building game. You assume the role of a mad scientist who is intent on creating a lethal pathogen.
It was designed around these three different goals.
Player Friendly - It is a card game that is played quickly with simultaneous gameplay. No sitting around for your turn to come up. And it's simple to learn!
Deadly Fun - Even though the subject is serious, it's a fun game with funny flavor text so you can enjoy it with your friends. It's also great for people with an interest in science or biology.
Mutate a Virus - Each player is attempting to mutate their Virus to be the biggest, baddest virus on the table. You will add more and more cards to your Virus by making new Virus Strains. This adds Lethality Points with every card you play.
Basics - Games usually last 15 minutes or less. For 2 to 4 players (Note: You may combine multiple decks for more players). Designed for Ages 12 and up.
Virus Strain Close Up - Here is an example of a Virus with 3 Virus Strains. A Virus Strain has 3 parts, Transmission Cards (Blue). Vector Cards (Yellow) ascending behind Transmission Cards. And Mutation Cards (Red) descending in front of Transmission Cards.
Video - Here is a video showing the basics of gameplay.
The Cards - There are three types of cards you will use during gameplay. They are minimalist and simple by design, so you can focus on building your deadly Virus!
Transmission - Transmission cards are the way you begin a Virus Strain. They include cards like Blood, Oral, and Gastrointestinal.
Vector - Vector cards are new ways your virus has begun spreading after you lay down a Transmission card. They include things like Droplet Nuclei, Fomites, and Worms.
Mutation - Mutation cards are the way you evolve your virus to make it more lethal. Each Mutation is done in different Stages, which lead to more serious conditions and more Lethality Points. Included are things like Pneumonia, Sepsis, and Gangrene.

Object of the game - Create a Virus that is 100% Lethal.
Setup - Shuffle the deck. Each player draws 6 Cards.
Virus - All cards a player lays down are considered part of their Virus.
Play - All players simultaneously lay down any Cards that they can, beginning with Transmission Cards to create a Virus Strain.
Virus Strain - A Virus Strain begins with a Transmission Card. Mutation Cards are placed descending on the top of the Transmission Card. Vector Cards are placed ascending behind the Transmission Card.
Transmission Cards (Blue) - Transmission Cards are required to begin a Virus Strain. They have no Dependency to be played. You can not lay down duplicate Transmission Cards. You can only play 3 Transmission Cards total.
Vector Cards (Yellow) - Vector Cards are added to a Virus Strain. They have a Dependency to Transmission Cards.
Mutation Cards (Red) - Mutation Cards are added to a Virus Strain. Mutation Cards have Dependencies that must be met before a card can be laid down. Mutations come in Stage 1 through 4.
Stages - You may place Mutation Cards on a Transmission Card in descending order from Stage 1 through 4. You can not lay down duplicate Stages on the same Transmission.
Continuous Play - You may place as many cards as you can each turn as long as their required Dependency is met.
Ending the Turn - When everyone has laid down all the cards they can that turn, they must discard all but one card in their hand if they have any left. Or discard all if they choose.
Drawing - Each player then draws until they have 6 cards and repeats laying down cards as before. This is done until someone has a Virus that is 100% Lethal or higher. If no cards are left in the deck, shuffle the discard pile back into the deck.
Winning the Game - When a turn ends and a player has a Virus that is 100% Lethal or more the game ends. Whoever has the highest score wins. The game is a Draw if at any point players can’t draw a full hand.
Lethal - Lethality is measured by adding the Lethal Point Percentage in the upper right hand corner of each card. Also be sure to count any bonus points you may obtain with Vector cards.
Risks and challenges
Delivery - Our pledge to you is that we will deliver the game as quickly and efficiently as we can. This is our first game that we have released, but we have great mentors and a manufacturer who has experience working with Kickstarter projects. It is also made in the USA, which will save a significant amount of time in the shipping process.
Unforeseen Delays - There is always the possibility of unexpected delays, but we will do everything in our power to minimize such delays.
Quality - We believe our manufacturer creates great products with excellent quality. We think you will be impressed.
Ideas - I appreciate any ideas you have for this project. I may not be able to respond to all ideas thrown my way (but I will try to!). I also want to keep the process as positive as possible, so please help me keep it that way. Thanks!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
