Bloodmark is the first book of the Bloodmark Saga. Like books of its genre, Twilight, Fallen, Harry Potter and the Hunger Games, there is a popular young adult audience hungering for bright characters submerged in dark unknown worlds, where good must prevail. Bloodmark follows an ancient Celtic world of werewolves as Ashling fights for her life to fulfill the prophecy bringing balance to the Earth and protecting the humans.

Bloodmark Synopsis: Old Mother created the wolves to be companions of the humans and protect them, but when a few forsaken packs broke their vows and her sacred humans were now the hunted, she created another to protect the balance of life, Ashling.
After she spent her first sixteen years hidden away from both their world and the human world in the country side of Ireland, the wild and red-haired Ashling Boru–the only daughter of King Pørr Boru of The Rock of Cashel–finds herself breaking all the rules as her untamed nature consumes her actions. She draws the attention of not only her father and four over-protective older brothers, but that of the entire Council of Elders. With her pack’s oldest enemies, the Dvergar’s, determined to stop her from fulfilling the prophecy, she is torn from everything she's ever known, with a mysterious new guardian, Baran Killian in the small town of York Harbor, Maine. Far from anything she’s ever known.
When ancient pack secrets threaten to destroy them all and she's convinced there is nothing in the new world to live for, she crosses paths with the dark and rebellious Grey Donavan and their lives are forever intertwined. He is everything she ever dared to dream about, except one crucial detail, he’s human.
Bloodmark's Protagonist: Ashling Boru I wanted to create a character that I could look up to. I didn't want to create a weak female lead that would only add to our misconception of the true strength of women and human kind. I didn't want her to wait around to be saved. I wanted a female lead that was both strong and filled with love. She had to fight for herself, what she believed in and all those around her.
Bloodmark's Setting: The novel stems from Ireland and ancient Celtic traditions and symbols. Basing the story with real locations in Ireland and around the world, but creating new lore around them, places like The Rock of Cashel, Mizen Head, The Hills of Tara and many others. You follow Ashling from Ireland to the United States of America, but the story continues to bring you back to her home land as she learns of the prophecy.
About the Author: As a child, I was inspired by everything I saw and watched every detail of the people around me. It sounds strange to say, but that was the beginning of finding my voice as an author. At a very young age I was imagining fanciful stories anytime I was left alone, my mind would wander off and create something. I followed my creative voice down many paths.
I went on to follow my urge to create as a designer, creating beautiful invitations, announcements, websites, and many advertising campaigns for corporate clients, but my heart still yearned for the written word. Every generation throughout time, has had story tellers and I wanted desperately to be one of them.
It wasn’t until my mother was diagnosed with cancer for a second time that mortality finally brought me to reality. The reality that time is not guaranteed and frankly no matter the longevity of your life, there is just never enough time. I realized if my heart still wanted to write, that there was no time like the present. I hadn’t intended that day I started writing to put my mother in my novel, but that is exactly what happened. As we fought for her life day after day, doctor appointment after doctor appointment, chemo injection after chemo injection, I must admit the fear of losing the most influential person in my life, fueled my need to connect with her on the page. I know that someday the cancer could win and take her from me, but not this day. She is still fighting with every fiber of her being and I’ve never been more proud of someone in my life.
So I made her immortal on the page, a place which no one and no cancer could ever steal her from me. A place in which she would always be strong and healthy and I could always seek her out.
I spent the next three years doing research, character development, outlines and writing before Bloodmark ever saw another person’s eyes. With the help of my amazing and supportive friends and family I received their constructive criticism and was able to start the self-editing process, both frightening and exciting.
Now I am seeking the perfect editor to do a final review of my first novel to help me polish it for print. As Stephen King said, “to write is human, to edit is divine.”
My Inspiration: I am driven by my passion for the written word and for the love of my mother. What more can a girl say.
Risks and challenges
Being a first time author brings challenges finding the right Literary Agent to partner with me to publish the Bloodmark Saga. It can be a lengthy process of submitting and rejection to find the right one. I have committed three years into the creation of the saga and that alone speaks to my persistence and love of the novels. Though, being realistic, there is always the chance that I won't find a Literary Agent on the first publication of the novel, so a "Plan B" must be considered.
With the ever changing world of self publishing, it is becoming more and more common for new authors in the young adult market to bring their first novels forward through the use of companies like Lulu that not only help you print your books and create the novel in ebook format, but also help you sell them into Amazon.
I have already designed and selected partners for the screenprinted t-shirts and temporary tattoos, so fullfillment of these will be seamless. I hope to welcome you into the Bloodmark world with your generous donation to the project!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
